The only reason that they wouldn't is that they don't have the stomach to deal with the optics and the reaction of the casuals.....and that would be a fireable offense.

To be fair, the Jays have been pretty s*** the past few seasons. Everyone was excited in 2015 and 2016. I think a winning team will provide a spike in new users. -
I would be more entertained with 1 additional year of Pearson rather than 1 additional week.

Seriously! I was so hyped when it looked like it Veen was going to fall into our lap...only to have a choice between between Veen or Martin. They absolutely made the right choice...but it would've been interesting to see how the rest of the draft would've played out had Martin been gone and Veen was our guy for $5M.

If the other guys sign for slot the most we can offer Martin is around $6.9m.

How many of those 20 will drop right out of the first round when the draft rolls around next year? I'm going to see 11 aren't 1st rounders next year.

I'd like to see him at 3B as well. I'm probably in the minority but I'm thinking that Martin ends up at 2B. His arm doesn't grade that well and from the clips I've seen it doesn't look particularly strong. Not weak, just nothing special... Average at best. I know Biggio has spent some time in the OF. Anyone know how he grades defensively in the OF?

So, just doing some quick math....with Britton's signing ($97,500), plus assuming that everyone else signs for slot (for arguments sake...$3,125,700), and the Jays use their full 5% overage before meaningful penalties start ($485,825)....they can offer Martin $6,979,125 right now.

I'm curious to see what Manfred does to f*** with the IFA signing period like he did with the 5 round +$20K draft. Each team can only sign 5 players that have bonuses greater than $50K? Then unlimited signings after that with a max bonus of $5K per player?
