I hope Perry asked Connor, "Who's your daddy?" on his way out.

The rumour is that he f***ed Connor Bedard's mom on a recent moms trip. If true, that's the most NHL thing I've ever heard.
  4. Jackie Redmond helped him find his game.
  5. I guess we should start cheering for, and commenting on revenue related analytics instead or performance based ones.

It isn't. Reaves isn't playing in the playoffs. If he does, that's a problem. What they need is a Top 6 forward, and a Top 9 forward that can actually PLAY....and still beat your ass if you get out of line. Players that have fists but can't play (or can't play anymore, in Simmonds case) are not what they need.

Absolutely. We just have no idea what year that will be is all.

You're saying Matthews wouldn't have gotten more in an open market?

Ya. His FA's haven't been the best thus far.

Panarin is a fair comparison. Always forget just how much he makes.

If he were a centre, I would say yes. But I don't think he'll get $12M AAV as a winger. But what do I know.
  12. So Jays are in on everyone? Sounds familiar.

They could only start negotiating with him July 1st of this year for an extension.
  14. A team that's willing to spend through the nose is always one off season away from becoming a WS contender. And the fact that (if they want) they'll outbid almost anyone is attractive if you're the one that they will outbid anyone for.
  15. And that's the thing...Toronto is just more risk averse than some of the other owners. They won't go over the top like some of the big cats out there. And that's probably a good thing if you look at it logically...but Ohtani is an over the top kind of talent and signing and that's what it will take. Which is why I don't see an avenue where he gets here.
  16. The fire is that the Jays would love to sign Ohtani. The Jays have a very healthy payroll. I acknowledge that. The reality is that the largest contract they've ever handed out is Springer's $150M deal. The Jays have never been one of the big boys. Do you really see Rogers tripling that $150M Springer contract for anyone? I'll believe it when I see that they're really serious about playing in the big kids sandbox.

Probably not. At least not publicly. He could go to them and say, I'm not extending here once my deal is done though. That would certainly give them something to ponder.

Wonder if McDavid finishes his contract in Edmonton.
  20. When you're talking about a 9-digit contract, you analyze the season very closely. Separating the first month from the remaining 5 is not unreasonable. In fact, one could argue that the one month is a small sample size and he's actually what the last 5 months say he is.
  21. I mean from a contract negotiation standpoint. I'd rather finish a season hot.
  22. Of course you can. When they sit down to negotiate the Jays are most certainly going to take into account that his last 5 months or so were abysmal. Way better to start weak and finish strong than start strong and finish weak.
  23. If you eliminate Chapman's April...and only consider his May-October, his numbers really take a significant hit.
