Whole lot of coulda woulda shoulda on this thread. I get the disappointment, I’m crushed. But hindsight is 20/20. If Varsho just did his job, if Clement just hit that ball 6” higher, if the ball didn’t get lodged, etc…fact is we left way too many RISP, you have to give it up for Yamamoto who is a cheat code, and make improvements to the bullpen (get a true lights out closer), grab another starter, maybe resign Bo but I doubt it…small improvements are all this team needs. We could be back next season in the same spot. Yeah a lot would have to go right but with the way these guys play together, no reason to doubt them.
Plus the Yankees aren’t getting any younger and what are the chances Cal Raleigh is this good next year too? There’s bound to be regression. For us too, probably. A lot had to go right and it did, but next year we have a budding star all season (Barger), Clement who I think is going to have a career year after that playoff performance…he has carved out a real solid place for himself finally. Yesavage…I dunno, I hope he’s as good as he looked but I expect some struggles next year.
anyway now I’m rambling but point is, we did it once, we can do it again. We haven’t won the World Series the past 32 years either and we all lived. The fact they got within two outs, and then one swing of winning it this year is ultimately an amazing achievement. Once this scabs over I think more people will appreciate it.
