  1. yeah, there's some tension between the optimizing the batting order gurus vs. conventional lineup thinking which has the team's most dangerous hitter usually hitting third (take George Brett, prime Mattingly, Molitor on the '93 Jays, Big Papi etc.) funny, when I played high school ball, our manager asked me where I wanted to bat in the order and (for probably the same old school reasons as Bautista) I said 3rd.
  2. But (perhaps unfortunately) Reyes won't be moving from being the leadoff man down to the 6-hole ... just like he won't be forced outta playing shortstop anytime soon (no matter what the numbers tell us make the most sense.)
  3. I'd like to see Bautista talked into (and embracing) the idea of batting 2nd for the whole season ... move Martin down to 6th ... and put Saunders' lefty stick in the mix to break up all the RH hitters.
  4. during the past couple of years, Beeston has practically guaranteed season ticket holders that grass will be put in the stadium once the Argos are out. wonder how committed Rogers is to grass (if at all) or whether they'll try to slide away from Beeston's promises once he is out of the picture?
  5. Agree with this. Trading Dioner (and his 5M salary) to improve the bullpen should be the goal, but if that deal ain't out there before the season starts then Navarro over Thole when the squad heads north. Last season the strength of the Jays was supposed to be their offence yet (injuries happen and such) Navarro ended up DHing about 20 games. (Gibby even used him there when Kratz wasn't around as the third guy.) The bench was so weak last season ... let's have some guys as late inning options who aren't complete dead wood.
  6. it would be nice to shore up a weakness on the team by dealing Navarro now but maybe the trade will have to wait until during the season? .... a starting catcher somewhere will get hurt ... (and what if it's Martin who goes on the shelf?)
  7. Give Martin the chance to catch Dickey. (lol at Thole being the only dude who can do it.) I like Navarro ... well I like his bat ... and prefer him as the backup over Thole ... but (for a team with perhaps not much left in the budget) they don't want to spend 5M on Martin's backup and so hopefully we can get a decent bullpen piece for Dioner ... but if we're not being offered anything of value in a trade (before the season starts) then Thole shouldn't break camp with the big club.
  8. doesn't every other bloke on the internet have a dime piece under his arm?
  9. I didn't know J Force included dudes too.
  10. anybody's hot girlfriend auditioning for the gig?
  11. Do any of you guys watch the Jays games primarily on a tablet (ipad) in Toronto and are there any additional issues I should consider there?
  12. Good map. I usually catch a couple of Jays series on the road each season. Gotta get the Rays in Montreal (and staying in the A.L. East) for additional easy road trip fun.
  13. I went to New York for a Jays series in June last year and ended up staying in the YMCA in Harlem. Probably the cheapest room in the city. Clean and safe enough for me. Just needed a place where I could crash, shower, and store my bag ... (when i'm in NYC, I spend all of my time out and about.) Wouldn't take a family there (haha) but it served my purposes.
  14. Davey Collins had a nice 1984 (too bad he didn't walk more), but his two years as a Jay isn't enough to crack the top ten.
  15. Bing-f***ing-o. (I could've taken the Wild Thing deep, or at least drawn a walk.)
  16. dude's list was for "best blue jays batting seasons" ... don't know if that includes baserunning? ... shouldn't include defense (anyway Moseby didn't have an arm ... at least during his last few years with the Jays.)
  17. Moseby beats Bell's MVP year? I know George didn't walk much but that's surprising.
  18. I saw a couple of summer night Grandstand shows for Springsteen and Neil Young which were kinda cool with the lights of the CNE (ferris wheel etc.) shining in the background.
  19. anybody here ever sit in those furthest away bleacher seats for a baseball game that were 820 feet (250 m) from home plate? lol
  20. Yeah, putting grass in the stadium is key. Baseball should be played on grass, and grass only, especially MLB. That'll improve the baseball viewing experience tremendously for me. Beeston has sounded sincere in the past when he's said that he's determined to get grass in the Rogers Centre for the 2018 season. Hopefully the dream of grass doesn't die or become more delayed with Beeston's imminent/eventual departure.
  21. amazing when the fans filled those bleachers right to the very end (despite sitting so far away from the back of the outfield fence lol) baseball fever . . . catch it!
  22. who are you more looking forward to seeing in a Blue Jays uniform next season day in and day out?
  23. I ran on the field after George Bell squeezed the final out. The mob moved towards the Jays "dugout" and I got a little champagne sprayed on my Starter's jacket from Buck Martinez's celebration with his wife who was in the first row of the stands.
  24. as you may be aware, the Jays will be celebrating that '85 division championship team at the August 16 game against the Yankees ... giving away a Bell/Moseby/Barfield bobblehead as well ... will be a guaranteed sellout no doubt.
  25. well, yeah, probably the more tuned in one is with technology (if keeping up with video game advancements qualifies as that) then the better one's chances of success in today's economy.
