  1. AA's fate will be determined by whether there's playoff baseball in Toronto this season. Just grabbing the second wildcard and being "one and done" on the road won't be enough to save his job (imo.) Gotta get the Rogers Centre rockin' at least once in the post season to show that glory days could be here again.
  2. hell yeah ... we've got the Stroman thing ... plus the Machado/Donaldson thing ... and now the DD thing ... gonna be some fun Jays-Os series this year ... already planning on travelling down to Baltimore for the 4-gamer in late Sept/early Oct.
  3. 1. if you care about the Alex gut thing, google the John Gibbons hiring press conference. 2. yes, letting Farrell go - when clearly he wanted to be somewhere else - was the right move ... Farrell had already checked out as Jays manager during the 2012 season (as evidenced by the Escobar eye black embarrassment, BJ players noticing the extra skip in Farrell's step whenever they played in Fenway etc.) 3. sounds like you give Farrell a lot of credit for the Red Sox WS championship in 2013 ... so do you give Farrell just as much blame for leading the Bosox to last place and 20 games under .500 in 2014?
  4. Beeston didn't simply just vote against the new commissioner ... all reports say that Beeston spoke out strongly against Manfred ... so it'd be quite the rogue move by Beeston if Rogers had indeed given him different instructions.
  5. that Alex quote was made in the context of hiring Gibbons after Farrell was granted his wish to go back to Boston ... while Gibby hasn't (yet) led the Jays to the promised land, Alex turned out to be right about what his "gut" had told him about giving Farrell a managerial opportunity for a team that wasn't exactly his dream job.
  6. tell Moose to stop warming up in the pen... he ain't getting into the game.
  7. well, with respect to the Beeston issue, the two of them have a friendship going back to year one of the Blue Jays and so if anybody in the media could get anything out of Paul it would be McCown.
  8. yeah, the Blue Jays "State of the Franchise" is on Feb 5 . . . too bad Edward Rogers III & Roger Rai won't be on the podium.
  9. 2015: Paul's last hurrah . . . Win it for the Beester! (so does DD remain at the helm of the O's for the 2015 season? haha)
  10. great that your 75 year old mom/parents are still going down to the stadium for games.
  11. If i'm watching a game on Sportsnet, I keep the volume really low so Buck, Tabler & Zaun are pretty much non-entities for me. Radio-wise, Alan Ashby was great and I thought that Joe Siddall did a nice job (particularly for his first year.)
  12. Bingo. if you're leading your division or a game or two back goin' into Sept. (and ya didn't just come off a brutal August) then there's gonna be a baseball buzz in this city that hasn't been heard in 20 years.
  13. that's why I wrote "late Sept." also (for me) a "pennant race" involves battling for a division title (which the Jays weren't) rather than a "playoff race" which includes vying for the 2nd wildcard (which the Jays were until mid-Sept.)
  14. those bobbleheads and other hot giveaway games (replica jerseys, caps) really pack the place. the Jays drew over 40K at 18 games last season ... over 45K at 14 of those. (not too shabby for another season without being in a legitimate pennant race in late Sept.)
  15. maybe the benefit of being able to buy postseason tickets before the general public will (finally) pay off this year? ... it'd be good to know ya got your foot in the door even if it was just for a wildcard game in T.O.
  16. for Alex still to be around in a year or two (or even three) from now, he knows he needs a new Jays banner hangin' inside the Rogers Centre pronto.
  17. memories of Joey McLaughlin et al. still haunt me to this day ... but at least Stroman should get better run support than Stieb did.
  18. whether DD comes aboard or not, I think Alex knows that (as far as remaining the GM) it's playoffs or bust for him this year.
  19. he'll score the walk-off winning run in the last game of the world series this year.
  20. there's a formal public part with the media present that is recorded ... but there's a big chunk of time outside of that where the three of them mingle around and there's plenty of opportunity to talk with each of them basically one-on-one ... where i've found them to be more candid.
  21. as a Jays fan, any time you have the opportunity to talk with Alex/Gibby/Beeston over a drink (and off the record) ain't a bad thing.
  22. Just received my invitation to the State of the Franchise which will be held in 3 weeks time and ... Beeston should be there. Invitation reads (the same as always): "I will be joined by Alex Anthopolous and John Gibbons for an open discussion on the direction of the club." Sincerely, Paul Beeston President & CEO Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club
  23. have you guys gotten over what went down at the all star game between Moose & Cito?
  24. yeah, the 2-hole traditionally has been occupied by the Tim Foli (bat control) types whereas these days that's where you'll find Mike Trout.
