  1. significantly I believe.
  2. Except Barton is a reverse platoon guy, who has significantly better numbers vs. LHP in his career (wRC+ 126 vs LHP, wRC+ 93 vs. RHP). Barton's a brutal .688 OPS guy vs. RHP for his career. Valencia has more power and versatility while Barton has more on base skills and is superior defensively at 1st. Smoak isn't much better vs. RHP for his career, but I still see them being committed to giving him regular at bats for a month or so due to pedigree and FB% profile mentioned above.
  3. My boy Josh Fields at 21st overall in baseball last year....go get him AA
  4. For Christ sakes - I meant cite the case where the prospect was given the impression he's nothing but a $ to the team (because they delayed his arbitration clock) and bolted when he became a FA because of it. Some agents have threatened action against the team, but I've never heard of a prospect who refused to resign with a team solely based on how his arbitration clock was handled. Oh - and BTW - both the Angels and the Nats delayed the arbitration clock for Trout and Harper respectfully. Both spent the first 20 odd games in AAA during their rookie seasons, which I believe was to gain an extra year of control for each player. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/12/24/kris-bryant-and-emphasizing-the-distinction-between-extra-control-and-super-two/
  5. Cite the case. This happens all the time. Note Bryant, Kris this coming season.
  6. Sanchez's minor league performance suggests he's not ready to be a starter in the big leagues (in fact is suggests he isn't even close). There is no magic number of innings a guys needs in AAA before he's considered MLB ready; however, history suggests the vast majority of pitchers need more than 58 innings pitched above A ball before they are ready to be successful in the majors (which is how many Norris has pitched). You don't care about a players arbitration clock because you're a short sighted fan.
  7. This kind of thinking is extremely short sighted and ignoring what's best in the long-term to chase a longshot is tomfoolery. The reality is - a lot of the young pitchers they have aren't ready to perform in the Majors sir.
  8. You're 100% correct. I think we have enough serviceable options at 4/5 too. The issue is we no longer have a top of the rotation pitcher. We just have to cross our fingers that Norris is this year's Stroman and that Hutch and his second half slider/results are for real and he's ready to breakout into a force.
  9. Looks like we all agree they will ignore the arbitration clocks and the development of some fantastic prospects all for the sake of chasing an unrealistic goal of making the playoffs without their best starting pitcher. AWESOME. Just F'ing awesome.
  10. Is Ang jumping on my McAllister train? allllll aboard!
  11. Jesus wouldn't that be nice?
  12. It will be interesting to see how they approach it. Unfortunately, I think they'll continue in the "win now" mode to save Gibby and AA's job (which in AA's case is ludicrous) even though their chances of success are cut in half like Stroman's ACL. They should be leaving Norris in AAA to avoid starting his arbitration clock. Start with Sanchez (give him a shot to start - just to say you did) and Estrada - give Sanchez's bullpen spot to one of the 349 arms AA brought in (West preferably) and then bring up Norris later on once it's obvious Sanchez isn't (and may never be) ready to be a ML starter. I'd prefer to just deal Sanchez now while his value is high, however, I suspect instead they'll give him a shot to start (he's been AA's golden child for 3-4 years now). I'd rather see that happen and his trade value plummet (with the outside chance he does succeed) than start the arbitration clock on Norris early. As Gorlak said - they are going to need more than 2 starters, as neither of the young guys are ready for 200 innings.
  13. I asked this yesterday without a response - what does 'cf' mean?
  14. I'd be banking on McAllister being far more effective as a fulltime reliever...I read he was hitting 97 as a reliever late last year. He might have some Wade Davis magic in him.
  15. what's cf stand for? Can I ask what you have against McAllister and Fields? You don't like live arms?
  16. Trade for Zack McAllister and Josh Fields. Problem solved.
  17. i know people who are different for the sake of being different and I hate it too. However, i don't get that from Norris. It's the media that continues to pump the van stories about Norris. And right in the story the Jays comment that Norris stays in great shape....if that changes, they'll get a little more concerned about the van life. Personally, I don't give a crap about the van....I want to see him develop into an ace that will carry this team for the next decade.
  18. This is spot on...
  19. It's sad when Captian Obvious has to come out of hiding to keep RealAccountant in line...
  20. I was there. Loved how the sold out crowd was yelling "we want BJ's"
  21. Can Smoak play LF and platoon with Pillar, with Barton at 1st?
  22. I LOVE this idea. Make it happen AA.
  23. Good news is - SF won the World Series last year with some pretty awful Left Fielders....
  24. I agree with this. Although I think it's a little short sighted to downplay the potential impact Martin may have in the clubhouse.
