  1. Can Basallo stick at catcher? I thought his defense was way behind the bat and that he might move to 1st (but that's scouting report is probably 1-2 years old in my head)? Perhaps the struggles Adley's had with the bat have the O's keeping Basallo behind the plate longer than expected? But what it up with Adley? He just continues to decline with the bat and is already 27. It's not completely the same, but this reminds me of Matt Wieters a bit. Can't miss catching prospect who never really develops with the stick.
  2. 100% he is. He's got more WAR than Vlad in 38 fewer games. He's playing like a Top 5 positional player in the AL right now. It's really impressive and fun stuff honestly.
  3. I think that's all fair. Turner's base running generates a lot of "value" for him, which is often overlooked to some extent when evaluating players. He's one of the best base runners in MLB over the past 10 years. He has seven 30+ SB seasons over the past 10. And the 3 seasons he missed that mark was 2020 (covid), a 27 SB season and a 19 SB season last year. He was super valuable on the bases back before they changed the rules to bring back SBs. He's a REALLY fun player overall and I love seeing him succeed. I hope he has 2-3 more "big" seasons in him.
  4. Do we think voters care about team success when voting on the Cy Young award? I do think it's a factor in the MVP vote, but I'm not sure it's as much of a factor (or a factor at all?) in Cy Young voting. At least it's not something I've heard people talk about before. I kind of thing if you factor team success into the MVP vote, then you should for the Cy Young as well. It feels like the word "valuable" changes people's perspective. Cy Young is just the "best pitcher", while MVP is isn't the "best player". I don't think it's a factor for ROY at all. Personally, I'd put team success very low on my list of factors for both the MVP and the Cy Young (and ROY) if I were voting.
  5. Yeah - I support those too. Collins probably factors into the NL ROY and of course Judge might challenge Raleigh for AL MVP, but otherwise, I think the rest are almost locks at this point.
  6. Some random observations: - J-Rod has been hot in the 2nd half and is reestablishing himself as a legit superstar - O's must be kicking themselves for trading Kyle Stowers - Perdomo, Jeremy Pena and Maikel Garcia all continue to hit at an elite level - I suspected regression from them, but it hasn't happened yet. - Pretty nice bounce back season for Cody Bellinger. I'm sure Yankee Stadium helps, but can't deny how valuable he's been this year. - Elly DLC hasn't broken out with the bat like many predicted, but is still a very valuable player... - Trea Turner has had a great season - big jump in defense (which always raises an eyebrow). He might be back on track to reaching the HOF one day if he can sustain this for another couple of seasons. - Shea Langeliers is having a career season. - sad season for Oneil Cruz. Change of scenery guy?
  7. This was discussed a couple of weeks ago I think. I believe someone advised they do have portable Traject machines now? Or will very soon?
  8. Someone in Chicago has to be saying "what the f*ck guys? We draft Vaughn 4th overall, expecting he'll be a cornerstone for this franchise and after several failed years, we ship him off to the Brewers for almost nothing, just to end the pain and those guys fixed him in like 24 hours and now he's the stud we expected him to become????? #*$&%&#*@*@*$&$_!@#" That would be infuriating.
  9. Nick Kurtz is really lighting up the league with his 181 wRC+ Not as much initial luck for Jac Caglianone with his 29 wRC+
  10. I'm looking for exit velo, barrel %, chase rate, etc., etc. to see if there's been a tangible change in his batted ball profile - something to tell me this might be sustainable. I just checked and his savant page looks really red already (even including his time in Chicago). I'd love to hear what adjustments the Brewers made if any, or what prompted these improvements. It's a really cool story. He was felt to be a can't miss bat and it looks like this change of scenery may have saved his career. If so, what a find by the Brewers - he's exactly the type of power bat they needed.
  11. I'll ask this again. Did the Brewers fix Andrew Vaughan? This guy has been incredible for them. 171 wRC+ and 1.7 WAR in 34 games (142 PA's). Can you filter the savant page by dates to see the difference since joining the Brew Crew?
  12. I don't think playing close to home has anything to do with in-season travel does it? Players don't "go to their offseason home" often during the season anyway do they? I'm just not sure I've ever heard of someone say they chose to play for Cincinnati instead of Seattle because there's less travel and that was a key consideration. Nor have I heard someone who's left Seattle say they won't miss all the extra travel. But I could be wrong.
  13. I'm saying that despite the high walk rate, the results are still generally good to very good. Hoping Pete can help him become a hair more consistent before the playoffs, but I won't be holding my breath. It certainly makes me uncomfortable, but as noted by several others - it is what it is. It's so f*cking nasty that you live with it. We have several bullpen arms who are similar. Everyone should be getting used to it.
  14. I've never thought about it that way before (I haven't thought about realignment much though 😁). I guess that probably makes sense. Make it even all teams/players. I suspect the travel does suck, but you don't hear about players avoiding certain teams because they don't want the extra travel. So it can't be a major factor.
  15. That's brutal (yet good for the Jays and F the O's). You don't see many torn rotator cuffs anymore. I remember that was huge/common back 20+ years ago. I remember growing up worrying about tearing my rotator cuff more than getting TJS.
  16. Since June 1st his FIP is 3.19 and his xFIP is 3.60 with a 13 K/9 and a .188 BAA. The walks are up big time though, which is a concern.
  17. I knew his mechanics looked different....that's a while glove raise.
  18. This is what the Athletic is proposing for new divisions after MLB expansion.
  19. Berrios has 270 games in mlb 269 as a starter Lauer literally started the year as a long man.
  20. Pirates are calling up Bubba Chandler...
  21. It's a good question. No idea what is wrong with Orelvis. He might be broken.
  22. This is silly, nonsensical criticism. Lauer is much more accustom to coming out of the pen. If this mindset was accurate, then they'd move Bassitt to the pen, as he's a FA, while Lauer will likely be in our rotation next year - especially when you can argue Berrios has been better than Bassitt this year.
  23. I mean - it is if he's thrown out by 5 feet with Bregman on deck.
  24. It looks to me like a good throw gets him there. If you send him, you're praying for a wide throw. It's a long throw, so there was a decent chance it's offline (which it was). You also have Bregman coming up next with 2 outs, which does factor into the decision. I don't think it's as erroneous as Red Sox Watcher suggests (although I probably do send him).
