  1. Am I supposed to cheer for the M's or the Yank's?
  2. Reminds me of the Mets Generation K!
  3. https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/10446-The-Blue-Jays-acquire-Mitchell-White
  4. Sorry - I should have clarified and would appreciate your view on this. I understand and agree with what you've suggested. Balls in play are bad. I'm talking about whether we value swinging strikes over actual K% results. Pitcher A has a K/9 rate of 10.0 and a swinging strike % of 26% Pitcher B has a K/9 rate of 10.0 and a swinging strike % of 35% Is Pitcher B more valuable than Pitcher A because of the swinging strike %? or do I just care about the K% results? What about this situation Pitcher A has a K/9 rate of 11.5 and a swinging strike % of 26% Pitcher B has a K/9 rate of 9.5 and a swinging strike % of 35% Would we rather have Pitcher A or Pitcher B (assuming everything else is similar)? I believe our bullpen ranks 18th in K/9, but only 26th overall in swinging strike % (I may be a little off with those). We add Bass, who's K/9 is >9 and the narrative is still that his swinging strike % is only 2 points over league average. Just curious and trying to understand it.
  5. I missed a lot of all-star weekend. Did the Dodgers do anything for Vin during the weekend? I assume he wasn't able to be there?
  6. I tend to agree with you Laika. I think the concerns with Springer's elbow force their hand to acquire someone who could play CF. Merrifield might be cooked, but he's been solid since a horrible May and adds depth to the bench. I've asked this before, but never received a true response, so I'll ask it again. All I keep hearing is how the Jays didn't add swing and miss - why do we talk about swing and miss instead of K%? Are pitchers who get swing and miss instead of pitchers who get called strikes more valuable?
  7. The same thing was said when we traded for Stripling... The Dodgers are so deep that they are constantly managing their 40 man roster and these are the types of trades they have to make to do so. Apparently White was vocally pissed that he keeps getting sent down after pitching well so LA may also have just been sick of his bitching. Who knows.
  8. RIP to this legend. A sad day for baseball.
  9. Wave 1 was Bo, Vlad, Jansen, Bo Wave 2 was Manoah, Kirk, Espinal, Romano Wave 3 will be Moreno, Tiedemann, Zulu, Orelvis, Pearson, Juenger, Horwitz, Barger Wave 4 will be Gabriel Martinez, Jimenez, Carter, Meza, Brandon Barriera, Josh Kasevich, Tucker Toman, etc. Obviously there are a lot of unknowns and guesses in Wave 3 and 4, but so far, they have delivered waved of quality players from our system and I still see a lot of good players and waves on the way. The reason we'll have waves is because they resisted the urge to burn a lot of these assets at the deadline this year.
  10. This is something that shouldn't be underrated. We didn't acquire rentals. These are pieces that will help us win this year and next year (and for some - several more years)
  11. Bruh - we're not on the same level as the top teams. To get there, we would have had to empty the farm system ala SD. Unfortunately a lot of our prospects have had s***** years and we simply don't have the depth or the player that other teams want right now. It's a difficult realization for most. Good news is the Braves and Nationals just won World Series titles when they weren't in the upper echelon of teams heading into the playoffs either.
  12. Max was really nice SP depth to have as your #7 guy +/- and could have played that role for the next couple of years. Ideally would have moved someone further away in A ball - but it is what it is. Merrifield is a solid, versatile guy and gives us much needed insurance in CF not only for this year, but also in 2023 (which is something I really like about this move). Solid move.
  13. I believe there's a good chance the Jays see themselves in a league below the Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, Mets and even the Braves (and probably the Padres now). They'd have to mortgage all the future to try and jump up into that level (and still may fall short) would still have to beat them. I suspect their plan is to simply strengthen the team without shooting themselves in the foot, get into the playoffs and hope you're on a heater at the right time so they have a chance to be the Braves and Nationals of 2019 and 2021. I respect that evaluation and decision personally.
  14. That seems like a solid return for the Reds no? I'm just stat scouting, but Encarncion-Strand hits at every level and Hajjar was a 2nd round pick who's performing well in A ball. Steer is almost ML ready.
  15. They must tunnel well with a sinker or low fastball or something? Seems odd that 3 Mets players in a row would offer at those without seeing the sequence of pitches leading up to it.
  16. The Mets have been doing this for the past decade man. Looks promising for them this year though.
  17. Givens is also rental. Mutual option for 2023. Nobody ever exercises a mutual option.
  18. Holy f*** man. So the development of prospects we traded for has no baring on how teams will view the value of players within our organization? You really jump off the deep end sometimes eh?
  19. Thanks Tips. Those 2 players are good examples of the DEVELOPMENT we provided. We got Teo and Espinal for next to nothing rentals and turned them both into all stars / regulars.
  20. And we have him for 2023. But because he's already been on the Jays before and is a journeyman, he's discarded as an underwhelming pickup.
  21. Manoah, Bo, Espinal, Teo, Jansen and Kirk say hello.
  22. I don't think we were ever adding Pablo Lopez man. Gaus/Manoah/Berrios is the playoff rotation with Strip getting a Game 4 start if/when needed. We're looking at rentals or back of the rotation guys for depth. We just added the bullpen guys. I think they might be scrambling to find more depth in CF due to Springers elbow and pushing hard for Happ.
  23. Club option for 2023 no?
  24. That's fair - that calculator is just a bit of fun to try and find a comparable deal. The deal is only comparable because it includes Hosmer at -$35M. Obviously SD package of prospects is better than the one proposed from the Jays. I was just pointing out that the calculator values seem to account for the flaws you've identified. Obviously teams will have their own calculators/value assessments.
  25. um...that's why it values Pearson at only $3.3M and Orelvis at $13.9M - while someone like Wood is at $25.6M - more than Tiedemann
