    I fear what he costs with the going rate for a good reliever.

    Trading a declining and impending free agent who just happens to be a fan favorite and a really good player for a decent return is not the stupidest thing the franchise could do. Trading a star entering his prime for spare parts (Donaldson from Oakland) is the dumbest thing we could do.

    Anyone think we could get anything of value for Carrera now that we have Upton? He still has club control and has had a decent season but is a big redundancy for us now with Upton on the team.

    It kind of seems to me like we are moving pieces into position to make the pen in the next year that could be longer term options in Barnes, Demody and Mayza.

    I just hope his slider is effective enough to get swings and misses (looks like it on the peripherals) to make it as a LOOGY in the pen going forward.

    I hope Pillar does hold that kind of value around the league. I would love to flip him for some offense in the offseason since his value is a ticking time bomb.

    Yea, it was so cheap of them to sign Estrada and Happ over going for the more proven ace in Price.

    Not that I agree with trading Bautista, but to say he wouldn't accept a trade seems like a stretch. Jose made it public that he wants a big money contract from us or anyone else, so getting him to sign off on something that would increase his earning power would likely not take much effort. Bautista is a Jose fan first and not a Jays fan like us. (As he should be)

    To me the silver lining if we keep losing is, it will probably allow us to fetch more immediate future value assets in trading Bautista and Encarnacion and with Stroman-Sanchez in the rotation we could retool on the fly around more pitching.

    I never really noticed Gabryszwski since he was always very mediocre. But in looking at random numbers on the farm, he looks like he is incrementally improving all his peripheral stats each year and is still youngish at 23. Is there any potential major league future in him at all?

    Cecil will get the tough high leverage lefty match ups. Just extra depth.

    No its in reference of his liberal use of prospects to acquire expensive star names like Reyes and Buehrle only to have to spend more prospect capital to upgrade Reyes to Tulowitzki. Then you have the back loading of Martin's deal beyond what he was planning to stay here for. Also rushing prospects towards super 2 status to further inflate salary earlier.
