Please. He went WELL out of his way to put on his accounting cap to somehow try and bring Rogers' share prices into the forefront as a basis for why the team should have no problem just meeting his demand. That was well beyond stating that he wouldn't take a "hometown discount". It was a calculated attempt at playing fan emotions against ownership for his own gain. You think he doesn't know full well that fan-turmoil has been high after the entire AA and David Price sagas? He was trying to create a shitstorm, point and blank.
Unfortunately for him, his demands are so absurd that the whole thing kind of blew up in his face. In reality, he just gave Shapiro an easy out to just letting him walk or trading him. Shapiro has already demonstrated his beliefs on resigning 35+ year old star players to long deals that almost surely won't work out in the team's favour. He probably didn't even want to resign Bautista long-term in the first place, but likely would have settled so as to not rile up the fanbase negatively.
