    Most teams don't score in any given inning. Not really sure "going quiet" is a real criticism when a team puts up as many huge innings as the Blue Jays do.

    Actually I think Cecil would have been a good call vs. Holt. Bullpen rigidity hurts

    Yeah I mean surely the prospect of not making the big club out of ST isn't enough pressure for a guy to pitch under. Must up the stakes by putting the thing that 24 other proven professionals are fighting for at risk. What I'm saying is if Gibby wanted to see if Leon would suck under pressure, he could have just invited the guy for nice long soak in a private hot tub.

    Yeah I mean it's not like they literally just spent 45 days in Spring Training. "So did you just give him the job without seeing him at all, ever?"

    This makes more sense given normal bullpen cooldown time. It also makes Gibbons look even more foolish.

    Osuna, Storen, Cecil, Chavez, Floyd, (and now) Morales is a pretty solid group. The arms were there. Gibby just decided to go with the fringe guy, the guy who is only on the team as DL filler.

    Osuna was available for game 3 but didn't pitch and then was unavailable for game 4? None of this holds up. Unless he's lying about who was and wasn't available, he just threw all strategy out the window and conceded the game.

    Wouldn't Yost have used his 8th inning guy for the 8th inning? If both Storen and Osuna were available, it wasn't Yost-level rigidity. It was literally just stupidity.

    Kat's just saying that one can vehemently disagree with whomever is outraged without dismissing them with pejoratives. Maybe one day someone of the "outrage" culture will have a good point but we'll all miss it because we've already mentally labeled them as feminist = stupid, or somesuch. I think the outrage vs. Gibbons is ridiculous (again) but I can see why what he said might be obnoxious to some. If he said "maybe we'll just play like girls", I think most here would agree that it was a s***** thing to say. But he said "wear dresses" instead, so if someone makes the link that wearing dresses = being girls, the outrage makes sense, I guess. I, and my girlfriend, just took the comment to mean that the league is becoming too delicate and dainty and, if a woman coach had said it, that meaning would have been a lot more obvious.

    What the. How were Gibby's hands tied? So what if Osuna pitched two days ago? And there was nothing wrong with what Floyd was doing either. If Gibby absolutely wanted to use Leon, why not save him for a clean ninth and use Osuna for the messy 8th? And unless there was some good reason, Storen could have been used too. His hands weren't tied at all. If anything, he tied them himself by using absolutely anyone except his best RP to get salvage the situation in the 8th. Like, even a drop of creativity would have resulted in better tactics than what he went with. The whole thing was transparently Matt Williams-level old-school horseshit.

    For this thread to be useful the OP needs to tally all the bullet points and date them for easy access. I want to come back here in July and know exactly what day and time Gibby pulled the Leon stunt. We need a higher standard of shrill bitching around here.

    I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that there was a reason re: Storen. If Gibby's so "methodical" that he refused to use Osuna until the 9th, there has to be a reason Storen wasn't even warming for the 8th. If there's no reason, then I don't even know what to say to that.

    Atkins just sent Gibby an email about using Leon but Gibby will never get it because he hasn't checked jgibbons17@yahoo.com in weeks.

    Leon is literally only up until Estrada comes back on Sunday and Gibbons uses the guy in the highest leverage situation possible.
