    Thanks, that is a lot of dead weight and I forgot about Navarro though Estrada might re-sign here.

    Romero's $8MM is a wash as Martin's contract rises from $7MM to $15 (and $20 the year after) and Buehrle will likely get a qualifying offer, so if he chooses not to retire he may end up back here for $15MM. Big difference between clearing $40MM and only $17MM

    I think it's partially because if you jump on the first available you get the cheaper deal. Detroit waited before offering Price and it worked out for them in a bidding war.

    Because right now the guys coming to camp are competing for slots #3, #4, #5... We only have Hutch & Stroman as sure arms in the rotation at the moment. I have a hard time believing Sanchez, Norris, Osuna will fill the other spots if one of Buehrle or Dickey don't return. We also lack depth behind those arms. At the right price, Estrada's a capable 5th starter for this team, as a 1.5-2 WAR pitcher.

    Estrada is an FA in 2 months and not getting a $15MM qualifying offer. However, it sounds like he likes it here and most other teams might see him as strictly a reliever option. So there's a good chance he still wants to re-sign for cheap knowing he probably has a slot in the rotation here.

    No they shouldn't... when you have s***** defense and mismanage your bullpen you're going to lose games. They don't deserve free wins just because they've lost a lot of 1 run games and made timely errors. That's the make up of this team and is reflected in their record.
