  1. Sorry but most of these guys shouldn't even be in the same breath when trying to compare players of the same calibre to JD... just because they had big contracts doesn't mean they were worth the risk to sign.
  2. It's not really fair to say it was only 18MM AAV though when it was the 6th largest MLB contract in history at the time of signing, not to mention it was heavily backloaded. It's hard to say JD would be significantly more of a risk when you factor in the inflation, current cost of elite players, what he'll get on the open market anyway and the expected ROI from the first half of the contract.
  3. The two aren't that comparable though except perhaps age of signing. Wells had 1 great season and got paid handsomely for it. Donaldson has had 4 straight years of > 6.5 fWAR... we're talking one of the best overall players in baseball for 4 years in a row. He might crash & burn in a few years sure but you can't really argue he hasn't had tremendous consistency playing at an elite level and it's much harder to imagine a sudden stark drop off anytime soon compared to wells. Will we regret it down the road having a s*** ton of immovable money tied up? Probably, but if it brings us a championship in the near future then the answer is no we shouldn't regret it.
  4. I wonder what Texas thinks about which ALDS was more frustrating, losing when up 2-0 with the bautista batflip or being #1 seed and getting their asses beat down by the same team.
  5. Lmao Lester is such a f***ing wuss
  6. Yes, he was jacked beforehand and of course I don't know if he's on roids or not... but when you reach such highs, looking like John Cena only adds to the skepticism. I'm not trying to suggest KBO is anywhere near the quality of talent as MLB but they put so much emphasis on entertainment it would not surprise me if they'd protect him in the event he was.
  7. It's not fair to do that with anyone sure... but not every AAAA player can just go overseas and instantly become the king of the KBO while looking like a body builder either. It should be okay to at least question it when wanting to sign back essentially a foreign player at this point.
  8. I was half joking... but compare these forearms, his look photoshopped they are so big. You also don't think it's possible the KBO would try to protect their star player? http://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/s480x480/e15/11378362_1603290129951145_798949965_n.jpg
  9. He also needs to wait for the steroids to get out of his system before he signs with anyone.
  10. I feel like Boone doesn't replace Cecil though, he replaces Loup. Edit, didn't see this I'd be good with that combo, although you mention Cecil is going to get paid. I think if there's a player that wants to come back the most it's him, he seems genuinely worried about leaving Toronto. I think he's really settled in with his family and it's all he feels he knows.

  13. I'll take none of the above for $400 Alex.
  14. So I would bet up to $50, if we have any degenerate gamblers on here, that Osuna will put up a more valuable season over the next 3 years than he has this year at 1.8 fWAR. Any takers? Only 12 relievers put up 2 fWAR or greater this season and 9 of them were >10K/9 pitchers, unlike Osuna. If you want to use a different stat to measure performance we can discuss that. Edit we can use a 3rd party to judge it instead of using WAR to get a more accurate analysis.
  15. Hey GD what's the best method to compare a closer's performance on a season by season basis? WPA? It seems like WAR isn't ideal. Just wondering how I can put a prop bet on Osuna having a better season over the next 3 years than what he's done so far in his career and the best way to judge it fairly.
  16. I very much appreciate everything he does and will do but you don't think being stronger can impact performance? I'm not just referring to throwing a couple ticks harder, you can improve your stamina, balance, etc. not to mention experience. Is it possible Sanchez's off season workout contributed to some of his success?
  17. well he could still get stronger, wouldn't surprise me if he's throwing 100 in due time.
  18. well he's also just a kid still
  19. Trading Liriano at his lowest value to try and clear 13MM is what the Pirates did and it cost them 2 decent prospects in the process...
  20. Would you do 85.5?
  21. I really think he's walking but I'm fine either way.
  22. They do a great job vacuuming our grass and picking up beer cans after parties. Top notch housekeepers.
  23. This thread was from a year ago Todd.
  24. Considering Chapman & Jansen are about to drive the cost of reliable elite relievers through the roof, I'd say that would be a great deal. Casuals will start riots but I'd be on board.
