  1. What an amazing inning! That’s Blue Jays baseball. Grinding at bats, taking pitches and some big swings. Let’s GOOO!!!
  2. I agree, that hit was massive for the team and I don't think it can be understated.
  3. I saw the Jays play at Exhibition Stadium about 40 years ago, watched on TV as Joe Carter caught the ball at first base in Atlanta to win the first series, and again the next year when he hit the greatest home run ever. It's been 32 years since then, wandering the wilderness, watching some great players come and go (man I wish Roy Halladay pitched for the Jays in the playoffs!), but WE ARE BACK!!!!!! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
  4. Springer's homer gave me Alomar and Bautista vibes. Man it feels good! Let's close this thing out boys!!!!
  5. This...I'm so mad that he put Little in there, it was so obviously a mistake. In those moments, with the game (and maybe series) on the line, you go best on best and don't mess around with matchups. A terrible decision by management.
  6. I've been thinking about that; certainly the best team since 2015 and we (obviously) have a real shot to make the WS. The Dodgers loom large, however.
  7. Man, has Vladdy actually matured?!! Great base running to score the run.
  8. It’s hits like this that are slowly getting me back on the Vladdy bandwagon. 2022/23 were pretty painful considering the talent he has, but he looks like maybe he’s putting it together and might just live up to his massive contract. If he keeps playing like this for the rest of the month and the Jays win the championship I won’t even care what happens over the next decade!
  9. Love seeing the NY bullpen going in the second inning!
  10. Bellinger might be a nice fit to upgrade the team’s offence, should Bo leave. Move Gimenez to SS, rotate Belly, Santander, and Springer in RF/LF, with Straw and Lukes as backups. The infield would be Barger, Clement, and Schneider for 3rd/2nd, not bad depth. Belly could also give Vladdy a break at 1b, so you could be keeping all the big bats in the order while resting them in the DH.
  11. People were saying that about the Orioles 2 years ago and look at them now. Prospects are just that, prospects. Most don't pan out.
  12. Horrible, horrible deal. Been a lifelong Jays fan since the early 80's and I've seen every high (b2b WS) and low (pretty much 94-2015) and I feel like this will be very quickly something to lament. 14 years!?? Why couldn't we just wait till the offseason and offer Tucker this crazy deal? I would have much rather cut ties with Vladdy, he's way too inconsistent and lacks any semblance of baseball IQ. I feel like Jays fans are in a world of hurt for a loooooong time.
  13. Man I hope these reports are as accurate as Ohtani on the plane to Toronto, and the Jays winning the bidding for Darvish.
  14. Here’s hoping he puts up a totally cromulent season, maybe 3.5 WAR, that doesn’t torpedo the Jays but also kills his market. If another team wants to pay him $500M have at it. I was so pumped about Vladdy after the 2021 season but since then he’s done nothing but disappoint. He’s terrible at everything except hitting and I’d be shocked if he ages well. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I don’t care if he leaves. He needs to have a monster year to change my mind.
  15. I'd rather have Tucker than Vladdy; hopefully the Cubs don't re-sign him.
  16. I guess this is why they actually play the games? 🤷‍♂️ Jays should be interesting to watch and it feels like it's going to be either a tire fire (like last year) or playoffs. If one or two of the younger players takes off, Vlad and Bo play to their norms, and you get 30ish starts from each of the top 4 in the rotation, they will be good. If Vlad or Bo have another down year, no young guys step up, and a couple of the rotation arms start to feel the effects of Father Time, things will be very, very bleak. The Jays are weird; they are trying to bring along young unproven plays while also hoping an aging core can keep it together for another year. Most teams in this situation (fringe playoffs) are usually one or the other, not both.
  17. Clearly you weren’t around in the early 90s when they signed guys like Winfield and Molitor. This signing reminds me when they got Dave Stewart; what a time to be a jays fan! Hopefully this portends more good things to come.
  18. Overall I really like the new look. Only thing I don't like is that the around baseball thread is not in the main Blue Jays forum. I understand it's not "Blue Jays" related, but it was nice having all the main Blue Jays and baseball talk in the same forum. Having to jump out of the Blue Jays forum to the non-blue Jays forum, to keep talking about baseball is annoying, and I find myself not going into the around baseball thread nearly as much as I used to.
  19. I’m in the trade Vlad camp as I just don’t trust him to age well. Add the fact that his awareness doesn’t seem very good and his conditioning is mediocre at best makes a long term commitment scary. If the Jays can get decent value I’d probably rather have Alonso on a 5 yr deal plus the trade haul vs Vladdy at 10-15 years at $450-550M.
  20. And 3 games back of first, so not really a big deal when there are almost 150 games left to be played
  21. I have to say I've never been so disappointed in a player. The hype he had coming into the majors as a 19/20 yr old, the massive 2021 season he had, gave me such hope for him. But the last 2 years he's been completely mediocre and every time he comes to bat I think "here comes another groundout". I really hope they trade him this year and go hard after Soto.
  22. I just bought a pair of tickets for May 31 (vs. Pit). Section 124 behind home plate. First time I've seen the Jays play since 93, when I got to meet them at an exhibition game in Ottawa against the Canadian national team. He better sign! Also, I live in Halifax so it's not an easy trip down to the ball park for me!
  23. Is anyone surprised by this? I figure they get 1 or 2 healthy years max out of that contract. I can't believe he got a 6 year deal.
  24. I turned 5 at the end of that summer; don't have a lot of specific memories of that year, but I was certainly a Blue Jays fan and even at that young age had a passing realization that they were a really good team. I remember some time around then I saw a game at the Ex, and the Jays beat the Orioles 9-5 or something like that. It was a great time to be a fan, and the WS wins really just capped off an amazing 10 year run or so. Hopefully the core of this team can reach those heights again!
