apparently the Astros are opening the roof in August for the first time in 10 years. Clearly because of Dickey. I wonder if our stadium control people will do the same for when Dickey pitches at home now that the games mattter so much.
I hate Navarro's framing as much as anybody..I was just saying what my opinion of the Blue Jay's thought process was right or wrong. I really love to hear about Sal Fasano's work with their catchers though. There are probably many clubs who have similar coaching with their catchers but it is still nice to see.
I think he is more valuable in his role as catching rover than a manager of one of the minor or major league teams tbh.
Even with Navarro's bad framing he still is a pretty good hitter. I think the Blue Jays expected him to be better with the bat than he has this year and that they could improve his framing because we know that framing can be taught. I don't think the Blue Jays though that Navarro would be as bad as he has been framing.
So I know a lot of people on this board think the Blue Jays don't care about framing because they signed Navarro and traded Kratz. This article proves that the Blue Jays work with their catchers on their receiving and even made a hard effort on improving Navvaro's framing.
My belief is they signed Navarro for the upgrade in the batter's box and the thinking was they could improve his framing. Obviously it doesn't look like it has happened but the effort is there. I really like what Sal Fasano and the Blue Jays are doing with their young catchers and it looks like the Blue Jays have invested in catching.

Also made a new thread for this because I was not going to add to that Kratz trade thread.
I don't know this 100% but im pretty sure MLB doesn't test for weed. Milb players get suspended but if someone tests positive then they could add them to the 40 man and they get a pass.
Also I remember Hayhurst saying guys smoked dope on game days and Price got his weed robbed from him at his spring training house a couple years back.
The MLB doesn't care because it increases revenue a ton. More teams in it=more $. IF they have a one team wildcard, KC, Cle and Sea all would be pretty much completely out of it.
It really is frustrating to see Valencia who can't hit a breaking ball thrown by a RHP in the lineup when they are better options. Does anyone find it weird that Lawrie struggles vs LHP? His splits in his entire career MILB and MLB suggests he hits RHP better by a significant margin.
You talk like its a sure thing. Baseball is unpredictable and that is why everyone loves the sport. Sit back, buckle up and just enjoy watching meaningful baseball!
Its like the "hes too big to play SS". Tulo is a great SS at his size and Machado would be an excellent SS too. If you can play the position, you play the position no matter what the regular CF or SS "looks like"
Its stupid people like Jeff Blair make comments like that. Jeff Blair said last week Gose is a terrific defender but I think the arm plays in RF better.
Like WTF? An arm in CF is a pretty good weapon to have and you could argue even better than in RF.
Don't understand people saying start Sanchez! when it is clear that he would probably only be able to throw 50 pitches his first time out anyway since hes been in the pen for a while. If you send him down to stretch him out you have to start Hutch another 2 times anyways.
I think you go with Hutch for another couple starts while attempting to acquire a starter through trade waivers.
