  1. From what I've read they still kept the file and trial system for this year. You're right that they still could have went to arb. but I think they really wanted to avoid that with all the public pressure.
  2. If he gets worse than I don't think the chances of him signing long term increase either since the Blue Jays will be less inclined to pay for a player not performing as well.
  3. Apparently as a file and trial team they don't sign contracts of 1 year after an arb. hearing is set so it has to be 2 years or more.
  4. I wonder if the Jays regretted not just giving Donaldson 11.8 this year on a 1 year contract.
  5. This likely means he's headed for FA in 2018. I'm sure the Jays weighed singing him to a 6+ year deal now and if the cost was too much now its only going to be worse in 2 years.
  6. They have as much young talent as any team in the NHL.
  7. I love the swing path, he certainly has some untapped power. Goins has been working with them as well.
  8. Kevin Pillar showing off his new swing. Imagine how good Pillar would be if he could be an above average hitter. Kevin Pillar (@kpillar11) • Instagram video WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM 8,424 likes, 278 comments - kpillar11 on February 8, 2016: "#process and #barrels @tewkshitting @adidasbaseball".
  9. Watch the Dodgers will sign both..
  10. Got a pair in the 500L but they're pretty crappy seats.
  11. Guy on the far right is Bobby Tewksbary. He's Colla and JD's hitting coach and has been working with Pillar and Goins this offseason as well.
  12. Another thing in Bautista's favour is he is in much better shape than a lot of those players. Also his skill set (elite BB and K rates) bode well for him to continue his productivity. The guy has walked more than he has struck out in each of the last 2 years which is amazing when you factor how much power he hits for.
  13. Yeah but if you are looking at the Ortiz contract you have to look at the Cabrera, Cano and Pujols contracts as well. They all are for 24 Million+ and run through their age 40 seasons.
  14. Hutch does really well when he elevates the fastball. I remember the Canada day game vs the Brewers in 2014 he dominated using the high fastball. I think he was perfect through 5 and had like 8Ks most of them on high fastballs. The problem is when he throws it low and in the middle of the plate.
  15. I think people overlook the players union side of it as well when it comes to contracts. Bautista is a big union guy so he is going to try to get the best possible deal he can get. If he signs for only 75 Million other players will be mad because when it comes time to discuss their own contracts teams will say well if Jose is only worth "X" amount of money then we can only pay you this amount.
  16. I think its fair to say he lost confidence in the 2nd half of the season and it affected his performance. In the first half his strikeout rate was 21%, a little down from 2014 but still pretty good. In the 2nd half that dipped to 16.5%. Now I would say its more than just confidence but the talent is certainly there. One interesting note is just how bad he was throwing out of the stretch. Bases empty- 22.5% K-Rate and 4.8% BB rate Runners on base- 15.5% K rate and 9% BB rate
  17. So just to be clear once the draft is completed we can't add FA right?

  19. In the first half Hutch wasn't that bad. He had the same peripherals as Yordano Ventura and he was sent down as well. Now their 2nd half's were drastically different but I don't think its unreasonable to expect Hutch to be the 3rd best pitcher on the staff this season.
  20. The Jays have said Sanchez's role will depend on what gives them the best chance to win. I take that if hutch looks good then Hutch starts and Sanchez goes into the pen. I'm just reiterating what the Blue Jays have said. If hutch or Happ blows their arm out in May I'm sure they will find an alternative to Scott Diamond starting 20 games.
  21. I think Chavez would be the first in line much like how Estrada transitioned to the pen last year. You could put Floyd in AAA but considering he just signed a Major League deal I would think he will make the team. I see the Jays bringing the best possible team up north, they aren't going to stash Hutch and Sanchez in AAA for depth if it makes the bullpen worse.
  22. I dunno last year the Jays did really well in siging minor league FA. Colabello, Carrera, Doubront, Hague were all pretty good and I'd argue better than what the Jays signed this year thus far.
  23. I can't see Hutch and Sanchez both starting in AAA. I think Chavez is the long man and Hutch is the 5th starter with Sanchez likely in the bullpen. If Sanchez wins the 5th spot then Hutch is in AAA. Chavez Floyd Loup Sanchez Osuna Cecil Storen That seems like how the pen will shake out. Maybe the rule 5 pick bumps out Floyd or Sanchez so they can start in AAA.
