  1. Funny because the Blue Jays look on the path to being the Giants of the last 2 years unless they can get acquire a couple of star players/core pieces. A high payroll team with a bunch of 2 win players
  2. Not sure I understand this sentiment online that the Dodgers can make all this money on the money they were going to pay Ohtani. A large point of the deal is so that they can surround him with better players and pay to make the team better. They aren't just going to keep all that money and invest it into some fund.
  3. Yeah I think salaries are all paid personally. But for a player's endorsements they can set up a corp. and get paid into that. And then through that they can pay out family members, friends etc.. while deducting their salaries from the income, which is another tax saving measure. And then he sets up a "foundation" which is another way to save in taxes. The funny part is there is all this attention is on the player, yet teams have been avoiding tax with smart accounting for decades.
  4. Well since he's going to be in the highest tax rate no matter what it doesn't really work like an RRSP. He's going to be making more than 250K or whatever amount the highest rate kicks in at for the rest of his life. If he changes his primary residence to a low tax place when his big money kicks in, thats the real saver. I wonder if a player can set up a Corporation and the team pays into a corporation instead, because there are big tax savings for that kind of set up as well.
  5. Lol is this a joke? He's not going to pick where he wants to play baseball for the next 10 years based on some tiny chance of a world catastrophe lol. I'd rather live in LA than Toronto anyways and I've lived in TO for 7 years.
  6. Structuring a contract to save on taxes is nothing new the Leafs did it with Matthews. Almost all of his money is paid upon signing bonus so that technically is taxed where his primary residence is (Arizona, which is a non income tax state) where as his base salary is taxed where he plays. Also if there is a lockout he still gets the $ as its a signing bonus. Its different than such a heavy deferral payment contract but still huge tax savings in the end.
  7. Actually pretty smart because instead of being taxed in California for just over half his games he can now get taxed in a non income tax state like Arizona, Florida, Nevada etc.. (still has to pay fed tax). Since no matter what he will be in the highest tax bracket, so it isn't a direct comparison with a regular employee with a severance package
  8. Whatever the case is this whole day doesn't look favourable on the Jays fan base lol. He wants to stay out of the spotlight and today just showed how much of a circus it was just from people expecting he was on an airplane.
  9. Complete nonsense read the guy's timeline. Literally says its clickbait to get his follower count up lol. Cmon..
  10. I think its honestly the opposite... People are tracking planes and restaurants reservations in Toronto, its more insane than anything. If he's seen on the street people will go nuts and go up to him lol. But at his celeb status that's just one of the deals of being a mega superstar
  11. Lol twitter saying Robert Herjavec from Dragons Den is on plane now
  12. Wouldn't someone have tried to get a glimpse of who was getting on that plane in Cali? TMZ is right there. I guess CP24 will have the choppers so we will find out soon enough.
  13. Gotta let them sink or swim, no?
  14. Someone get Manoah and Vladdy on a plane and drop them in Lake Ontario.
  15. If he doesn't care much about money that would be the biggest waste of time lol. I read when he was in Japan making 2.4M a year his parents would only deposit 1K a month into his bank account and live off that lol.
  16. Also looks like he's been to a few Miami clinics to try out some products...
  17. All events on Ticketmaster get shutdown at 2AM for routine maintenance and open back up at 4AM. If you went to look at a leafs game you would get same message. But yeah, you can bet if Ohtani did sign in Toronto they would jack the price up right away, that I'm sure of lol.
  18. I actually find it hilarious myself. The thought of some random guy being on that plane and walking off once it lands to all these people thinking it might be Ohtani. Another question is are Shapiro in Atkins in Toronto?
  19. If CBS, NBC or FOX produced it, it would be a lot better. I turned it on the commentary sucked, was confusing as hell with everyone on different holes and music blasting in the background. Plus was just over the top propaganda of pro LIV crap. Like you said they would be better off just having 4 rounds and regular tee off times. The team aspect I actually don't mind and it's a cool concept but if I'm being honesty I don't really have any interest in watching. I'll see all those guys at the 4 Majors and for the bigger tourneys like the players, WM open etc.. its still exciting with all the great golfers.
  20. Also wouldn't he go to Florida to do his physical first? Unless he already did one when he toured the facility but I would find that hard to believe. Some canadian executive is going to be coming back from Disneyland with his family on his PJ and be greeted with CP24 Helicopters following from the airport lmao.
  21. Not to mention that it might be awkward for Manoah coming back into the clubhouse considering he basically quit on the team last year. Who knows how fractured the relationship with the FO is too.
  22. I will give Ken the Dave Roberts thing was ridiculous and if Ohtani or his camp were actually mad at that, then they are Divas. Also the not wanting his dog's name to get out seems stupid as well. But at the end of the day its his choice how he wants to handle his FA... Funny he mentions the NBA because Ohtani reminds me a lot of Kawhi Leonard in that he's very private, doensn't say much of anything at all and has all this mystery surrounding him. Now hopefully Ohtani doensn't pull a Kawhi and choose LA over Toronto.
