  1. Just a hot streak no way the shooting will continue but still nice to see. If he can be a 20PPG on a .575 TS% that would really help out the team even with his bad defence.
  2. I find it funny how people are saying this is a good move and that they can just dump Espinal. While Espinal had a bad year last year he was better in 21 and 22 than IKF has been. Also better against LHP. IKF and KK deals aren’t terrible on the surface in terms of value but look like a terrible fit on this blue jays roster given there are lots of good defence/weak offense options. Also seems like a bad use of $ paying $17M a year for 2 bench players when they needed a lot more, and have cheaper options on the roster already.
  3. Wasn't in consensual though? Like its not like he raped her against her will. While still a crime, I would say there have been MLB players in the past that have done a lot worse. Look at Aroldis Chapman.. and he has no trouble getting a job. Even Osuna with the Astros.. Franco is such a talent that Rays players would probably welcome him given he could be the difference between playoffs and no playoffs.
  4. 10M in signing bonus is better for Glasnow too as it won’t be taxed by California.
  5. I don’t mind Dunedin/Clearwater, I’ve been there 5 times and enjoyed it. Tampa airport is one of the best as well. But Scottsdale is in the top 3 of my most favourite US cities. Weather is fantastic with no humidity, great food, golf courses, lots to do. My fav city is San Diego, has everything you could want, however also super expensive. Yeah downtown LA is s*** but Dodgers don’t even play there so literally would be no reason to go there. It’s like Toronto players aren’t going to go to bad parts of Scarborough.
  6. Bullpen actually seems like a strength and while another late inning guy like Haden would be great I’d rather spend the $ elsewhere when there are bigger holes on the roster. An upgrade in LF/3B has so much more value than the upgrade of adding hader. Romano/swanson/mayza/green/garcia is a pretty damn good back of the bullpen even if 1 or 2 of those guys get hurt/have down years. Even a guy like Pearson has some upside left.
  7. Exactly lol. LA has better: City Weather Winning pedigree Storied franchise Player development Money/ownership Literally the only thing the Jays have that the Dodgers don’t is a nicer spring training facility and more of a hitters ballpark. Even the spring training facility location wise is in Dunedin, FL which is way worse city than Scottsdale/phoenix area.
  8. I don't think Trout would even want to come here with the turf. (doesn't he have no trade clause). That said Trout is a player that would bring in marketing $ and reignite the fan base (not the same as Ohtani). He's one of the best players of all time and even if you are overpaying a bit I think you would have to do it. Even with the injury concerns I don't think anyone would be surprised if he has a 7 Win season this year.
  9. Oh I took it in the sense the Jays would get a bigger return since there was way less $ left on the deal if they were to trade him. Speaking of luxury tax if a team releases a player does a players contract count against the tax? If the Jays are up against it next offseason it might make sense to attach money and trade Springer just to get rid of the cost against the tax.
  10. Almost every monday-thurday game you could have got 100 level on the secondary market for like $40 or less if you waited until a few hours before first pitch. Saturday games were pretty popular with most of them selling out IIRC. I'd expect the same this year especially April and May games during the week.
  11. Stroman was the same way. Would wear ridiculous clothes and then post on social media "me against the world" or some garbage. Once some of these players achieve a little success their egos go through the roof.
  12. May as well backload the contract and then if you do trade him you can just attach money. If you are paying the same say $160M its better to pay it later when the dollar isn't worth as much as it is now. Not to mention, you can improve the team right now with more $.
  13. I've got season seats and can confirm they are sold out. Made you sign up for a minimum of 3 year term at like a 5% price increase per season or if you went 5 year term it was a 2% increase per season. Funny thing is the club lounges underneath aren't even going to be ready until the AllStar Break either. On friday when there rumours were flying the Jays were going to sign Ohtani they actually increased the ticket prices on ticketmaster a lot. I don't know if it was manually done or software where the algo automatically changes it when a lot of people start buying at once.
  14. If I want to know how good a defensive player is I'm going to look at defensive stats like OAA, DRS, and UZR not fangraphs defensive rating. You said Brantley wasn't a good defender because of "defensive value" where I said by defensive metrics he graded as above average. You get penalized for being a LF/1B on the position spectrum from FG because those aren't as valuable. Even if Roden is "above average" in LF defensively he will have "negative defensive FG value" which puts pressure on the bat.
  15. Funny thing is outside of Moreno and maybe Frasso/Hoglund a lot of those prospects look pretty bad. Credit to the Jays for cutting bait/trading those guys when they still had value. Ryan Noda has a decent chance to end up being the 2nd best player of that group and he's a 2 Win 1B.
  16. It takes time for sure but the Orioles and Reds overhauled their development a lot quicker.. The latest hirings seem encouraging but you do kind of wonder what they were doing the first 5 years when they got hired. Yeah you're right about trading... Can just trade a franchise Catcher for a Defence first OF who can't hit! (Its a joke)
  17. Home Field advantage is going to be big in the AFC. I can't see the Fins wining a road game in a cold city like Baltimore, KC. Agree that the Ravens are the favourite but can see the Cheifs or Bills coming out of the AFC as them playing"their best" is better than the Ravens best. NFC I like the 49ers especially if the can get HFA. Coyboys have been playing well and Dak at an MVP level but I still just have a feeling they'll blow a playoff game by turning the ball over 3 times.
  18. I didn't know that but makes sense with the $ that are getting thrown around. PGA tour is in a tough spot because these guys are getting paid more than what they are worth by LIV so there really isn't much they can do.
  19. You talking politics or baseball? Pederson/Kepler are LH. Belt another option if he wanted to come back. But you need good players first and foremost. Rather a 120wRC+ RHB than a 100 wRC+ LHB.
  20. Problem with that is its a lot easier to compete in the AL Central than the AL East. High 80 win teams isn't good enough to win the East. I wish Shapiro/Atkins brought more player development coaches with them to Toronto back when they came over. Cleveland always has been known as a great development org. Boddy from Driveline always mentions them, the Dodgers and the Astros as among the best but when Toronto is mentioned "You hope they can get better with the President coming from the org." than saying they have great coaches in the system.
  21. You're looking at FG defensive rating which includes the postion adjustment, not the player's actual defensive ability. 2011 he had +9 DRS in LF with a positive UZR, in fact in LF he had a positive DRS in every season but 2018. Which kind of proves my point in a way that if Roden is a below average defender in LF then its going to be really tough to provide value unless he turns into 130wRC+ type player. Also what's with this Lyle Overbay fascination? He was a dime a dozen player, just like Adam Lind.
  22. Are those reports from this last season? Defense is a tough one to project but him being a below average-average runner now by 2 of those publications isn't exactly encouraging. I think my point still stands though is the bat is going to have to really carry him to be a core type piece. I'm hoping he can become something.
  23. The numbers do look impressive and if he can get a bit more power then certainly looks like he can be a player. But the writeup of his defense makes him sound less exciting. If he's a 120wRC platoon LF thats more of a 2 Win player than a core piece. Brantley was a plus defender in LF when he was younger which I feel like gets forgotten.
  24. I would go as high as 7/160 on Bellinger but anything more is a pass. I'm on board with the idea of just overpaying a few players on 1 year deals to maintain flexibility, and you hope the logjam of LF/3B/2B prospects can take a step forward and look like contributors. Joc Pederson JDM Michael Taylor Tim Anderson Sign a few of these guys and a back end SP and maybe a trade for a Max Kepler and its not the end of the world.
  25. Farm system seems to have a lot of decent looking relivers and some platoon type 2B/LF options but outside Orelvis there really aren't any big league regular type upside prospects which is kind of concerning. (Nimmula is but he's a half decade away). Hopefully some of these good contact/no power outfielders can develop some power.
