  1. Yeah I wouldn't be upset at all at something like 4/56 for Bautista and Encarnacion. I expect them to want more than that, and probably get it, but if that's the bar for mid-30's players looking for their last big payday, then that's a good thing.
  2. Man this thread is reminding me how glad I am that AA is gone. Good riddance.
  3. If Hutch beats him out or they acquire another SP, then sure I can see him as the long man, but I said they didn't acquire him to be the long man. They obviously like him as a SP but can use him in the pen as depth (which they are trying to accumulate) if need be. If they wanted a long man I don't think they move Hendriks for one. They clearly like him as a starter, and he is a good/solid starter.
  4. I don't think they view Chavez as a 6th man. They might be saying that in case they stumble on to another SP and need to move someone to the pen, but I don't believe that's how they view him if they moved Hendriks for him. They'll probably end up with someone like Petit to fill that role while Chavez is in the rotation.
  5. Is there any upside in this for the Jays when it comes to Bautista and Encarnacion? If they sign one or both, then they will be paying them free agent money in their mid to late-30's while their defensive value ceases to exist (if it hasn't already). Any time you pay someone big money for what they did in the past, rather than what can be reasonably projected in the future, it becomes a huge risk. If they lose both, then that's about a 9-10 WAR for $24m that they will no longer have. The surplus value is gone and it will surely take way more than $24m to find replacements anywhere near as good as them. Can't trade them due to 10/5 rights and they have no incentive to accept trades elsewhere when they know they play in a park suited for their strengths. So it's either lose both and be stuck having to replace them, or keep one/both and pay two DH's $20m a year during what could be their twilight years. Not an enviable spot to be in.
  6. Gibbons, the moron that he is, tends to say and do stupid things.
  7. The annual "quote a s***** no name Twitter source" rumor. If the Jays are being brought up, it's pure Boras. This would be the least Shapiro thing possible.
  8. I wouldn't rule out Shapiro signing one of them if the deal makes sense for the team. It's just unlikely. This is a heart vs brain situation. The heart wants to see them retire as Jays and win at least one championship in Toronto, while the brain is pointing out that paying free agent money for a player's twilight is doomed to fail.
  9. Dombrowski is probably going to sign both.
  10. Is someone out to sabotage the new regime in the eyes of the public? There is just so much negative press purposely designed to rile up a fanbase.
  11. Yep I was on the Kuma bandwagon, but I never expected him to want to come to Toronto.
  12. Osuna, Sanchez, and Hutchison starting in AAA would be fine with me but that's a lot of bullpen spots to fill without Hendriks.
  13. This org is in good hands with Atkins and Shapiro.
  14. That rotation with additional depth can compete in 2016. Next season without Bats and Edwin might be a different story.
  15. AA was preparing an offer for Greinke in August, but Shapiro did not bother. - Morosi's sources. In all seriousness, I agree the Jays seemed to have read the market well by signing guys early. If they waited they may have been left out in the cold with the AAV's being thrown around and Toronto not being a free agent destination. We will see how similar pitchers to Happ and Estrada do on the market.
  16. Maybe Atkins will send Sanchez to the minors to start and actually have a pitching coach work with him to improve his mechanics and maybe add a pitch to his repertoire. The previous regime seemed to think Sanchez was great as is but this new regime won't.
  17. Unfortunately, the Jays success brought in a ton of bandwagon fans who listen to idiots like Simmons and McCowan and then start to echo their stupidity in forums like this and Twitter. That TilsonBritoFan poster was pretty much reciting McCowan's rant from yesterday word for word in this thread. It's not going to get any better any time soon.
  18. The sad thing is if the Jays win a World Series in 2016 it will be because of Alex. If they miss the playoffs it will be because of Shapiro. So even the team winning won't shut blowhards like Simmons and Bobcat up.
  19. The first question someone in the Toronto media will ask Atkins is about his thoughts on how great Alex was.
  20. As far as affordable SP depth is concerned, Lee would be on the top of my list if his medicals check out. It's exactly the type of move the Jays can afford to make now that they have added depth to the rotation. Whether Lee would sign with Toronto is the question. Maybe the Shapiro connection will help.
  21. That probably would have happened anyway. I don't think LaCava had any real power in the GM spot.
  22. Shapiro originally acquired Cliff Lee. Use your past history to get an incentive laden deal done, Mark.
  23. Morosi will calm the fans down by saying his sources informed him that AA was about to trade for Mike Trout before Shapiro came on board.
  24. Ross Atkins will be named #BlueJays' new GM per @susanslusser
  25. I approve of this. The rotation would be better with Shields and Dickey both in it, but have to save money somewhere.
