  1. Yeah if the Jays are convinced that Osuna is not a starter, then trade him. You won't find a better market to do it than this one. I like Chavez, but I'm beginning to wonder what the Jays could have gotten for Hendriks if they held on to him for another month.
  2. He was brought in to win on a small payroll (ala the Oakland A's). It was the height of the Moneyball craze, and Ricciardi was able to milk being one of Beane's assistants into a GM gig, but I don't think he ever had the option of tearing it down. "Winning an unfair game" was Rogers' intent.
  3. Um, fastball? He's a one pitch pitcher right now.
  4. Sanchez as a starter is more realistic because he's thrown 130 IP in a season before and started for the first part of last season, so it wouldn't be a huge transition for him. Osuna and his lack of innings is a different story. Sanchez really has to improve his command and add another plus pitch to be a long-term SP though.
  5. Hutchison, Sanchez, and Osuna in AAA would be the ideal scenario, just not very likely. Maybe trade Revere for a reliever (say, Randall Delgado for example), and then sign Blanton. So the pen becomes Blanton, Cecil, Delgado, Loup, and fill in the rest with some rec projects or minor league signings. Probably wouldn't add much in terms of wins, but having three young SP's in AAA as depth would be great. Blanton + Delgado in that scenario = Revere's projected arb figure.
  6. Don't insult JT like that.
  7. Cubbies are going to be fun to watch for the next few years. And if they add Carrasco like someone mentioned? Damn.
  8. Is it too late now for them to say sorry for misunderstanding your joke?
  9. Ash was one of the worst GM's of all time (yes and I stand by that!). JP wasn't anywhere near that bad.
  10. Heyward's deal is 8/184. Never thought an 8 year deal would be a steal but this looks like one.
  11. Man the Cubs look incredible.
  12. Barney signs for $1.05m, per the usual Jays media (Davidi and others).
  13. That's not my entire shtick. A big part of it, certainly. Appreciate the mention(s), though. This is by far the best and most knowledgeable Jays board I've been apart of, and lord knows there's some stinkers out there.
  14. There's no such thing as building a World Series contender though. The Jays had a World Series roster last season and proceeded to barely get by the ALDS before losing in 6 in the ALCS. The goal is to make the playoffs. Shapiro's goal seems to be to make the playoffs in 2016 and then have options in 2017 to either change course or retool. That's probably the right way to go given where the team is. Maximize 2016 wins but don't sacrifice 2017-beyond flexibility or any prospects. I can understand why he doesn't want to get tied down to middle relievers making $5m a year or anything like that. Might help the 2016 team but he still has to be smart about how he spends whatever he has.
  15. Darn, I thought Petit was a realistic possibility. Oh well. I have a feeling Blanton will get a deal that's too rich for Shapiro's tastes as well given what other relievers have been getting, but then again that might just be Billy Beane trolling everyone, and not a sign of the market.
  16. The craziness of this off season has kind of made me glad the Jays are taking the boring route, even though I still foolishly refresh Twitter hoping for any Jays news whenever I can.
  17. Niese will be good in Pittsburgh.
  18. Confirmed by Heyman. john axford is $10M of course with a's. may bad (typing deficiency). 2 yrs. @Joelsherman1 had it right Beane has lost his ever loving mind.
  19. Joel Sherman: Axford gets 2 yrs at $10M with chance to earn $4M in game finished bonuses from #Athletics @susanslusser had signing 1st. Damn, looks like it will take at least 2/10 to get Blanton.
  20. Wasn't Stewart the runner up for the Jays GM job before JP got it? Dodging a bullet would be an understatement.
  21. Revere for Rubby and Delgado. I'm down.
  22. There has to be a way to pry a decent arm out of Arizona for very little (Anderson, DLR, Delgado, etc). Do they need a left fielder? Dat batting average and speed on Revere might be useful for them.
  23. Blanton + Petit would be great signs if they can get them at a reasonable price.
  24. Trade them Aaron Sanchez. Lord knows what the Jays could get back. He throws hard. And stuff.
  25. Wow there has to be a trade the Jays can make with Dave Stewart.
