  1. Buck saying "Get up ball, get up, get up!" on doubles in the gap now. Dude is out of his mind.
  2. I think Drury will start the season at third and then shift to second when Vlad comes up. Travis and Solarte are on their last legs with the org. Then Gurriel and Diaz will cover short when Tulo takes his 4 month vacation during the season.
  3. I’m not expecting much out of Harold Ramirez but he’s hitting enough to be added to the 40 man after the season.
  4. Yeah I wouldn’t mind if Gibby stayed since Gibby 2.0 is more than capable to manage in any situation (Gibby 1.0 was trash), but sounds like he may want out just as much as the front office wants a change. I don’t think he’ll get another job unless AA makes a managerial change in ATL, though. Teams are going younger and cheaper with managers now.
  5. 10 pitch samples are enough. 1 game is an eternity.
  6. Respect to Gibby for being able to change after Shatkins took over, but I don't see the big deal. Most managers are now analytical extensions of the front office. Gibbons will be missed based on his relationship with the players, but as far as actual decision making, managers are basically puppets now. As long as they don't hire a Dusty Baker/Buck Showalter type, we won't even notice the difference aside from no longer having entertaining inteviews before/after games.
  7. The Jays made the playoffs in 2015 and 2016, and had over 3 million in attendance in 2017. Anyone who thinks Rogers was going to agree to rebuild after that is not thinking clearly.
  8. Billy Upton might force Teoscar to start in AAA next year.
  9. Agreed. Aside from the big 4 (Ny, Bos, Hou, Cle), there really isn’t another team that jumps out at you. One team in 2019 is going to surprise and win 88-90 games for the 2nd wild card (like the A’s this year) but hard to predict who it will be. I want the Jays to stay the course, keep building up assets, but also add pieces that can help short term. The Yankees were able to combine those two things very well during their transition years (2013-16). If someone like Keuchel becomes available at a reasonable price then I don’t see why the Jays couldn’t do it. Build up assets and see what happens. As long as they are not subtracting from the farm, they should be fine.
  10. I think the main difference between 2017-18 and 2019 is that in 2019 we will have five months of a generational talent coming up after a month, and the roster as a whole is getting younger regardless of what you think of the actual players (Jansen, Drury, Gurriel, Grichuk, Diaz, Hernandez, McKinney, etc). I’m not expecting the team to compete in 2019 but I wouldn’t rule it out. The twins won the WC2 in 2017 and the A’s will win it this year. It’s not a lofty goal. I agree with BTS. If there’s friction between Rogers and Shapiro, then I want the team to be competitive in 2019. Doesn’t mean make stupid short term moves but don’t tank.
  11. Yeah, Shapiro rebuilt a bunch of times in Cleveland. He's not new to this. The only thing new to him is working for a publicly traded company that doesn't give two shits about baseball and only looks at revenue. He didn't rebuild because he couldn't.
  12. Happ and Eovaldi seem like pitchers Shatkins would target.
  13. Yeah it would. As boring as the past two seasons have been, I've had a blast keeping track of the minor leagues, seeing all the new prospects coming in, and knowing we finally have a front office ready to build from within. If Shapiro leaves, then who knows what happens, especially if Ed Rogers is behind the hiring process. The bright side is the other option appears to be the Mets, and as annoying as Rogers probably is as owners, they are no where near as bad the Wilpon's. If Shapiro is so unhappy that he goes to the f'n Mets, then we have bigger problems then just him leaving. Really hope Shapiro stays beyond his current contract. It's about time the Jays have a player development focused front office.
  14. No question it is disappointing to end up with Merryweather for Donaldson in general. If you told me this a year ago, I would have called you crazy, but circumstances change. They didn't trade him before the season started so they left themselves wide open for this scenario to play out like it did. They made the best out of a bad situation though.
  15. The Jays traded 4 weeks of an injured Donaldson (more like 2-3 weeks by the time he comes off the DL) who hasn't played in the bigs since May. The fact that they got anyone who might become a decent big leaguer is pretty good.
  16. Yup. The casual fan mouth breathers who pollute social media with their ignorance will celebrate. This would be such a huge blow to the Jays org.
  17. My bad didn’t scroll through the page. s***** news either way.
  18. https://sports.yahoo.com/report-blue-jays-president-mark-shapiro-linked-potential-mets-job-235231923.html Damn this better not be true but it wouldn't shock me if it is. When Shapiro made the "we would have rebuilt two years ago" quote, combined with renovations to the stadium that Rogers still hasn't approved, I can't imagine someone with Shapiro's background putting up with that s***. He doesn't need Toronto, he'd get hired somewhere else pretty easily. Rogers tampered in order to hire f'n Kenny Williams and Dan Duquette four years ago. They got really lucky that Shapiro fell on their laps. I don't even want to think about who they'd get to replace him if he left.
  19. Donaldson isn't coming back to play on turf when his body is breaking down already. He gone.
  20. Yeah hearing the actual clip is still sounds like Merryweather is the guy so nothing has changed. I guess we just have to wait and see.
  21. The only player whose numbers might suggest potentially being an "impact player" (which is how I think Atkins described the ptbnl) down the road is Yandy, but they'd have to fix his s***** GB rate. I guess Chang, Mercado, and Allen are possibilities as well.
  22. He's not on the DL but he's not active. I'm not 100% on the rule but I thought the player has to be healthy to be put on waivers, and Merryweather won't be healthy for a while. If Atkins said that then either it is someone else or Merryweather could in fact be put on waivers and was claimed.
  23. The Jays got a player for basically two weeks and a post season run of Donaldson (assuming he's healthy enough to play). Based on what Atkins said the ptbnl is already agreed upon but can't be named yet due to the rules (Merryweather is hurt/can't pass through waivers), so assuming it's him, if he turns into anything, that's a huge win for the Jays.
  24. Wall is striking out a ton and has a high babip so yeah the line isn’t that impressive, but he’s hitting fewer GB and walking more since the trade. He will be 23 next year so AA is still an appropriate level. Next year will be big for him.
