    Yeah, Tony Clark doesn't realize that the reason players are upset at free agency is because they have to make peanuts for a decade before they finally get to it. Start arbitration after year 2 and increase the minimum to like $1.5-2.0m, and I'm willing to bet free agency will go a lot smoother. There will still be situations like Harper where players hold out for more, but it will be fewer.

    Both Machado and Harper breaking $300m is great for baseball. Doesn't solve the league wide issue, but at least shows that elite FA's will still get paid. I'm fine with Harper holding out for more. Let him get his dough.

    I think it will either be the Phils or Nats for Harper. No one else makes sense.

    Stroman for Gray makes a lot of sense now.

    Manny is young enough to still be good 2-4 years from now when their prospects are up, so if they are interested in Stro, it probably won't be for their best prospects. Still, trading Stro for 2-3 of their 12-20 ranked prospects would probably be worth it (those guys would be top 10 in other systems) but whether they have any reason to is a different story.

    So is the Machado deal good or bad for baseball? I mean a player getting $300m in any sport is huge, but distracts from the real area of concern with MLB (player earnings during years 0-6). I wonder if Manny and Bryce’s impending deal makes the MLBPA pause a bit. Lord knows Tony Clark only cares about free agency.

    Seriously, fixing this is pretty easy. Pay players more during years 0-6. That's it. Whether it's starting arb after year one/two, or increasing the minimum to be in the millions, etc. Teams would still be getting insane amounts of surplus value, while the players get paid more than $500k a year for the first three years. Then by the time free agency comes, the players may have already made $50m+, and may not be as adamant about the 10/300 type deals since they were paid reasonably during their primes. Clark is the worst. Not sure how he keeps his job. Free agency isn't the problem. If teams are getting smarter about aging curves, then you can't force them to overpay for diminishing returns. But you can force them to pay more during years 0-6, and that better be Clark's focus, or he's a moron. On another note, I'm glad the Jays are rebuilding for 2022. The lockout will happen after 2021, so once again, impeccable timing.

    Yeah, I'm fine with Stro's attitude for the most part, but liking posts that trash your own team president/GM is simply not professional. I think we have all been where Stroman is now (from the looks of it) in not liking the people we work for (hell, I'm there now), but I wouldn't go to social media and say it. That's a bit much.

    Severino signs four year deal with Yanks with a 5th year option. Might as well try an extension for Stro at this point. It will be cheap as hell.

    Guerrero has to learn how to be a good teammate, develop leadership skills, and work on his defence. Nothing two weeks in the minors won't fix.

    I think the Jays were the only team that had two players in the top 10 (Vlad/Bo), so that combined with depth is probably what contributed to it.

    Only if you are being signed by the Nationals. Every other team is making cheap look like an art form.

    Yeah don’t blame Nola for that. Pitchers are injury risks and teams are cheaping out on free agents. If players realize that 0-6 are the only years teams care about, then they might be more open to these types of deals since teams will be willing to pay more for those years plus a couple of free agent years. Free agency doesn’t pay off anymore.

    Your memories are playing tricks on you guys. Snider was definitely a legit top prospect, but Lawrie was hyped by Jays fans more than anyone else. He was like a top 50 prospect in baseball at his peak, unless you're talking about mid season 2011 rankings or something. Definitely not before 2011.

    Morosi uses the Jays as clickbait due to its large social media presence. That's it. Much like Keith Law, he should be erased from being cited as a source.

    I'd be surprised if the Jays sign any RP's to big league deals at this point. Spring Training will be easier to clean up some 40 man roster spots.

    If Shatkins cared about optics (they don't), that's actually a pretty decent idea as long as the prospect coming back at least had upside. Won't happen though.

    Yeah seriously I’m supporting Stroman now. Sure his whining on social media when Ryan Goins was let go was annoying but other than that he’s a good pitcher who wants the ball in big games, loves Toronto, and is trying to build a business on the side (and last time I checked that involves promoting the brand on social media and engaging with his followers). Don’t know why that angers so many people. No wonder baseball is so boring to the mainstream. It wants to stifle the personality off everyone. He’s not a Machado like douche like he’s portrayed here. Sign him to an extension.

    If the Jays and Indians swapped divisions, the Jays would be heading towards their 5th straight playoff appearance in 2019.

    Lindor could miss 20 weeks and the Indians would still win the Central by double digits. They'll take their time because they can afford to.

    Yeah I never understood the appeal of this. I could maybe understand it if there was no interleague play, which would make the World Series a bit more interesting with that dynamic thrown in (Jays pitchers hitting in 1992 and 1993 was mind boggling for me as a kid), but with the way the league is set up now it's stupid and outdated. If Manfred is getting any heat for this change it is undeserved. This is one change that will help baseball.

    I hope he picks baseball. Even if he ends up being a bust, MLB benefits from having the best athletes choose them over the NFL. If Murray chooses baseball and ends up being good, then even better for the league.
