  1. Something about that Brandy Halladay quote seems off. “That’s how we want him to be remembered”. Goes against everything he said publicly before his death. Maybe she decided that in respect to the Phillies org but that kind of defeats the whole point of going in with a cap.
  2. That's disappointing. Roy wanted to go in as a Jay and he signed a one day contract to retire with the team. I thought this was a no brainer.
  3. Bonds not being a HOF is a joke.
  4. Yeah, I think that has to change. No way 1 WAR = ~$8m anymore. You can get 1 WAR players practically on minor league deals nowadays. No one values them.
  5. Yeah don’t think the Jays want anyone long term who will block any of their infielders, hence why Sogard was signed.
  6. Now we know why Aledmys only got Thornton back.
  7. Yeah it will be Vlad, Bo, Jansen, Pearson, Pardinho, Smith, and Groshans, most likely.
  8. Well I don't necessarily agree with anything the Reds have done this winter. They won't be contending any time soon. But from a value standpoint, getting Gray at 4/38 is a good contract assuming he resembles anything close to what he was prior to 2018. They obviously believe he can. I'd rate the winners as Yankees (for getting what they did for a player they pretty much told everyone they weren't keeping), M's, and Reds in that order, but I think everyone got what they wanted. The Reds obviously took the biggest risk so they have the most to lose.
  9. I agree everyone got a good deal here. Reds get four years of Gray at a good price, Yankees get a lotto ticket and a draft pick in the 30's for a player they didn't even want, and the M's get a good IF prospect. Seems like everyone wins.
  10. Gray to the Reds (+ extension) is a done deal. Shed Long going to the M's (because DiPoto is bored). Josh Stowers + a comp pick in the 30's going to the Yankees.
  11. The Gray trade to Cincy appears to be contingent on him signing an extension. That at least makes it somewhat sensible for the Reds.
  12. Cashman would have gotten way more for Happ, Oh, Osuna, etc, than Shatkins did. That's not a knock on Shatkins either. Cashman is just that good.
  13. It’s not about super two it’s about control. If he comes up some time in 2019 then he will be a FA after 2025. If he comes up in April 2020 then he will be a super two but controllable through 2026. No sense getting one fewer year from him by playing him in 2019 when 2026 is likely going to be more important for the team’s win curve. Again, just saying what I think the front office will do.
  14. I'm sure Machado would treat the front office and their high performance team with great respect. He seems like that type of player.
  15. He'll get the Vlad treatment. Gurriel will get the whole year to see what he has at short (they'll use that as the excuse), and then Bo comes up late April 2020.
  16. Drury is going to have a 2+ WAR this year. Quote me on this later.
  17. Pompey still being on the roster is pretty surprising. I thought after the falling out with the AAA manager and not being a Sept call up that his time was up, but he’s finding a way to survive. A Pillar trade would really open up a spot for him, and 2019 is the type of year where you can afford to keep a player like him and give him a chance.
  18. Murray is going to use the A's as leverage in the NFL draft. If a team takes him early in the 1st then he's probably a goner, but if he lasts late in the 1st, or even drops below that, then he'll have the A's as the backup plan.
  19. Yup, and there's also Paulino, Thornton, and Waguespack on the 40 man roster, Merryweather on the DL, and Zeuch not on the 40 man but likely to start in AAA. Richard and Shoemaker are beards. They'll hold rotation spots for show only, and in case they need innings. I think the Jays want to get a look at their young SP this season.
  20. I think we are done. Shatkins probably counting on the AAA rotation to develop this year, and Shoemaker/Richard are just veteran stopgaps to keep around just in case.
  21. MLB is screwed if they don't give players incentive to deal with the minor league pay BS, years of riding around in a bus, and years of living off noodles and beans. Don't blame Kyler at all. Long-term MLB players can make way more than NFL players but those MLB players actually have to be good for a long period of time to get that money down the road.
  22. Especially since this trade was done for Jansen. It's not like they traded Martin so that Maile and Jeff Mathis could share catching duties. It was to open up a spot for a damn good catching prospect who is ready to contribute right now, among all the other benefits that have been mentioned. Tulo was dumped so that Gurriel could get a look at short, not Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins. The team is developing prospects and then dumping vets that are clogging up spots. Fairly standard stuff. Even though Brito is a long shot to ever been a big leaguer and Sopko lacks upside, that was actually more than I expected for Martin. We still have Morales to provide vetrin presents (...and I'm trying to find a positive for him still being on the roster).
  23. Didn't Beeston also say something about having a "track team" after the Marlins trade due to all dat speed the Jays were adding? That was also the same time AA basically got rid of every catcher on the 40 man roster to hand the keys to JPA. Good god those were awful years. Let him collect his old buddies from here.
  24. Damn they must be pitching underhand in that league if Gift is putting up numbers like that.
  25. Baseball is losing popularity and their lack of financial benefit for minor leaguers is going to become a topic someday, so they need to attract as many athletes as possible. Even if Murray is s***, they would still be taking a player away from the NFL. The optics for that certainly can’t hurt MLB. The A’s want to get it done for more obvious reasons.
