  1. Not happening. Brewers are at home for a series vs. the Cubs. It may have to be in Toronto.. here are other available sites that might be usable in the Central and East: Miami Cincinnati Chicago(NL) Detroit St. Louis Kansas City Toronto Houston Likely the series gets moved to Chicago, Miami or Toronto if the rain is a serious issue in Baltimore. Only way the series is played in Milwaukee is if the Brewers allow it (unlikely).
  2. Tomorrow's game has been moved to 12:05 from 7:05 due to a huge rainstorm expected to hit Baltimore, partially from Hurricane Joaquin. Don't be surprised if the O's/Yankees series is moved to a neutral site.
  3. Only 9,150 people showed up for the Rays/Marlins game last night in St. Pete. I wonder how low it'll go when Toronto comes in this weekend. We'll be drawing 47,000+ for the playoffs.. Tampa will be lucky to draw 47,000 this weekend altogether.
  4. Holy crap Mike Olt! What a catch. Jays fans are very appreciative of it..
  5. Angels up 2-0 on the A's. Very important game.. especially considering they're chasing both the Rangers (up 7-6 on the Tigers) and the Astros (currently tied at 1 vs. the Mariners.) If the Angels sweep the A's, it makes the Rangers/Angels series VERY important, as it could be a fight for the division. Of course, the D-Backs will also have something to say about it, as they play Houston on the weekend.
  6. At this point, Girardi may need to consider that.. his options are limited. Sabathia's a question mark, Pineda, as you saw tonight, has effectiveness issues, Eovalldi's hurt, and Warren isn't really a strong option. And of course, there's Severino.. but they can only use him for least one start in the ALDS at least due to innings limitations due to his young age. And it will all depend what Tanaka does tomorrow.. his hamstring issue is a concern.
  7. Start getting that champagne ready in Baltimore. Yanks now down 9-4 after Blake Swihart just hit his 2nd HR of the game. Bryan Mitchell is garbage..it shows how bad the Yanks pen is outside of the trio of Wilson/Betances/Miller.
  8. We'll see him in 2017, and the Royals lose big, as he would've been a valuable trade piece if he had stayed healthy.
  9. Yanks/Red Sox on TSN, and White Sox/Royals on Sportset.
  10. 22 years of no playoffs(until this season) hurts too. Plus, neither the Yanks or Red Sox are even drawing in Tampa anymore.
  11. MLB will do everything to get the games in, especially with so much on the line. If it were Philly/Atlanta, they wouldn't even bother.
  12. There are US teams that draw worse on the road than the Jays. Kansas City still doesn't draw on the road even with a World Series.. as does Houston. And of course, Tampa Bay is DEAD last in home and away attendance. Other factors have to be considered--Yanks are way down in attendance this year, as are the Red Sox and Rays, and the Tigers and Rangers.
  13. That's a myth. Didn't you see the Jays fans at other ballparks this season when the team's winning? Tampa on the other head, it is a truth. Nobody wants to see the Rays.
  14. No kidding. Final week of the season, and there's no clear cut leader. Angels could actually make the playoffs if they beat the Rangers this weekend.. or the Astros could if they beat Seattle and Arizona. Or we could end up with a complex mess of tie-breakers on Monday for the division and 2nd wild card.. including the Minnesota Twins as well.
  15. AL East teams would welcome Montreal. After all, there are a lot of Boston and New York fans there, along with the Jays.
  16. What you just said was idiotic.. MLB and the majority of the teams seem to be pushing for Montreal in coming years, because they sure aren't making money in St. Pete. 29 other owners are getting tired of subsidizing Sternberg's huge financial losses at the Trop with the Rays. Without revenue sharing, the Rays would be in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection right now. They can't survive with their lack of attendance. Sooner or later, MLB is going to try to terminate the Rays in every way possible, including forcing the team into bankruptcy protection to get them out of their lease.
  17. Yes. Matt Silverman has his hands full, with no new stadium on the horizon, an unsustainable market and payroll, increasingly expensive young pitching eating up a chunk of the payroll, no offense, and one foot out the door to Montreal.
  18. Some of it was due to Joe Maddon. Kevin Cash lacks the personality Maddon had, plus ownership refuses to spend money. And most free agents would rather get hit by a bean ball than play for the Rays according to Twins OF Torii Hunter. Look at what Joe Maddon has done to the Cubs.. he's about to take them to the postseason.
  19. No baseball appropriate stadium in Vancouver. At least Montreal has Le Stade Olympique as a temporary facility while a new ballpark is built.. if it worked in Washington(who played at antiquated RFK Stadium from 2005-07), it could work for Montreal. Besides, if Vancouver was going to get a team, it'd be the A's if that situation with the ballpark in Oakland continues. Montreal at least would keep the AL East proper.
  20. And of course, the city of St. Pete continues to drag its feet on a new stadium. Sooner or later, possibly in the next year or two, MLB is not going to let this facade continue.
  21. Then someone better cut the Rays a big check.. as it stands, payroll will likely be reduced further in 2016. And they're losing Asdrubal Cabrera, who will almost certainly get a multiyear deal elsewhere, as will John Jaso.
  22. That makes sense. When I heard Buck and Pat saying how scary the Rays would be in 2016, I thought it was a Buck blunder.. there is no way the Rays will be able to afford their current payroll next season at present attendance levels. 2016 has $29.08M guaranteed to 4 players (Longoria, Archer, Loney and Moore) and a load of arb raises, with Smyly and McGee expected to get significant raises, and Cobb a bit of a split between whether he will be tendered. And 2017-19 is even uglier, with payroll expected to soar into the $100M range, which that organization cannot afford. It is exactly the reason why I expect a fire sale this offseason, as the organization can't even afford its current payroll with only 1.2M showing up.
  23. Agreed, but only if they find takers for clubhouse cancers Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez.. their contracts are albatrosses. Plus, with arb raises coming, Boston's payroll flexibility will be a problem in 2017 and 2018, when their young players start getting paid and the backloads of Sandoval, Porcello and HanRam really start to hit. While they will likely add pitching in the offseason, it'll likely be through trade.
  24. Not relevant to what I asked. I was talking about the situation with the Rays, not Boston or Houston. But yes, they will be dangerous in 2016.. if they add properly. And Boston isn't a sure thing yet.. that pitching staff is still an issue, and it'll be difficult to add in free agency due to the bad contracts of Porcello, Sandoval and HanRam. Any pitching additions will likely be through trade.. after all, Boston's farm is deep.
  25. I just listened to Jonah Keri's book "The Extra 2%" on audiobook, and was thinking.. Vince Naimoli was known for alienating the fanbase by doing dumb things, like being cheap, even to his employees, heavily enforcing no oustide food bans, and ticking off sponsors, and of course, let's not forget "The Hit Show", where he signed aging sluggers past prime to backloaded deals. Then Sternberg came in and bought the team, and with Friedman and Maddon at the helm, the Rays won 2 AL East titles, 2 wild card berths, and 1 World Series appearance. But after their World Series appearance, attendance peaked in 2009-10... then dropped off a cliff, with the decline accelerating this season to the lowest since the 2005 season(1,167,984), and as it stands now, attendance of 900K-1M(Expos-level) looks likely for 2016, as the team is unlikely to spend and likely to sell off pieces that are about to get expensive (including Longoria). Don't fall for the hype that they'll be a dangerous team in 2016 like Buck and Pat said.. a fire sale is more likely, especially at these attendance levels. WHY won't the fans show up at the games? They tried to make the fan experience better (including the touch tank, opening up a CF porch similar to Toronto, DJ Kitty, a museum, etc..) and yet, the fans don't come to the games. Heck, even when they won, nobody shows up. Compare that to Toronto, where the Rogers Centre sold out multiple times during our current run to the postseason.
