  1. Shut up. Morales would've been scooped up quickly by most clubs for similar money to what Toronto gave him--30 HR+ power, gets on base at a solid clip, and is about even on strikeouts with Edwin.. and neither of them should be playing 1B anyway, as both stink defensively. And who knows how Edwin will age? And Brandon Moss is no longer a good player--poor in the OF, Ks too much, and doesn't hit for average or get on base.. Napoli and Carter are still unemployed because teams no longer what to give money to one-dimensional sluggers who just hit HRs and K 200+ times/season..
  2. Adam Rosales signs a 1-year deal with Oakland.
  3. Yes he did--unfortunately, Trader Dave really wants to win now and doesn't care about the future--especially as the Sox payroll swells over the tax after this season due to arb raises and bad contracts. Current projections have them over $200M in 2018 and 2019, and a dire mess in 2020, when Porcello, Pomeranz, Sale and Bogaerts are free agents and everyone except Pomeranz likely getting $25-35M/year in free agency.. which will be difficult for the Sox to afford, as they'll be back at the 50% tax again then, assuming they reset this year by keeping payroll under $195M... If Sale doesn't work out and Porcello regresses back to the pitcher he was in Detroit, Sox are in a heap of trouble..
  4. Dombrowski's going to ruin the Sox more than Cherington did.. especially if the Sale trade backfires and they can't get anyone decent to hit at 3B (their depth is thin at that position). Dave's ruined all of Cherington's work of building that farm into a potential sustainable contender--now they're an SP injury(especially Sale, Price or Porcello) away from being in a serious mess, especially considering the offense won't bail them out again, since Ortiz has retired, and the farm is barren of MLB-ready talent (I don't count Benintendi, as he already is in the show and is projected in LF on Opening Day). As for Salty--he'd be an offensive upgrade for Boston right now, as neither Leon or Vazquez are reliable offensively, and Swihart still has question marks. But he'll be a decent backup for the Jays..
  5. I'm guessing Cherington recommended Salty to Atkins/Shapiro--as Ben had him with the Red Sox when he was running the team.
  6. Still need another SP and some bullpen depth, though..
  7. Thank goodness the Jays never have to give him ABs again especially with Dickey gone to Atlanta..
  8. Josh Thole signs a minors deal with the D-Backs... good riddance! Let's just pray Ianetta and Mathis don't get hurt.. or Arizona fans are going to hate watching Thole for extended periods not hitting.
  9. And the draft order is set--Jays are set up well to improve the farm system, even despite missing out on getting a pick for Bautista: 1. Twins 2. Reds 3. Padres 4. Rays 5. Braves 6. Athletics 7. Diamondbacks 8. Phillies 9. Brewers 10. Angels 11. White Sox 12. Pirates 13. Marlins 14. Royals 15. Astros 16. Yankees 17. Mariners 18. Tigers 19. Giants 20. Mets 21. Orioles 22. Blue Jays 23. Dodgers 24. Red Sox 25. Nationals 26. Rangers 27. Cubs COMPENSATORY PICKS 28. Blue Jays (for Edwin Encarnacion signing with the Indians) 29. Rangers (for Ian Desmond signing with the Rockies) 30. Cubs (for Dexter Fowler signing with the Cardinals)
  10. It depends on when Pujols is healthy.. otherwise, he's a bench bat. 3B is blocked by Escobar, 2B by Espinosa and SS by Simmons. At least the Angels are trying to threaten the Astros and Rangers.. still need pitching, though.
  11. Funny to think he was the key piece in that Marlins fire sale--yet Reyes and Buehrle were the only useful pieces, as Reyes was sent in another deal to Colorado with Hoffman and Castro for Tulo, and Buehrle was a solid arm in 2015 while Stroman recovered from a serious injury. Shocking to think Anthony DeSclafani is the only one that's done anything .. the rest of the Josh Johnson trade has produced mediocre talent (Marisinick, Hech, Nicolino) or got injured (Alvarez)
  12. Likely as a utility player--not everyday. His best position is 1B at this point in his career--his defense is pretty mediocre at 2B, SS and 3B.. it's possible the move was made for bench depth and the fact Pujols may be delayed returning from foot surgery, which may require Valbuena to split DH/1B time with Cron, plus there's a chance Cron is dealt for pitching.
  13. And teams will be hitting a lot of shots to the OF for XBHs. Kim/Jones/Smith/Trumbo would be the worst defensive outfield in the majors..especially as Adam Jones is losing a step in CF.
  14. Except Gose will likely get claimed by someone.. there are teams that need OF depth..
  15. Detroit's 2017 and maybe beyond CF: EDIT: CF Anthony Gose DFAd as a corresponding move:
  16. To be fair, none of Carlos Perez, Yan Gomes or Travis D'Arnaud would be catching in Toronto everyday even if they were kept.. Perez hasn't hit in LA and is losing his starting job to Martin Maldonado in 2017, Gomes went off a cliff offensively after 2014 (his only good season) and has been nearly Arencibia bad and his contract is an albatross for the Indians.. only with better defense and pitch framing, and D'Arnaud can't stay healthy--we still would've have to go after Russell Martin regardless. And after 2013, Napoli can no longer catch.. he's basically a DH/1B now (who still hasn't signed yet despite being connected to Texas). And yes, Zaun was right about JPA--he is the main reason the Jays stunk in 2013 (and injuries as well).
  17. At least we'll remember his debut when he went 4/5 with 2 HRs on August 7, 2010.. in a 17-11 win for the Jays.. and BTW that was an ugly game pitching wise..
  18. Keith Law's 2017 farm rankings: Jays #21: http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=6108 Anyone know the rest? Stupid Insider article..
  19. Jake Diekman done for most of the 2017 season due to surgery--substantial blow to the Rangers bullpen: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/jake-diekman-to-undergo-surgery-miss-significant-portion-of-2017-season.html
  20. Probably a short-term deal until some of the Phillies' young OFs (Cozens, Williams, Quinn) are ready to play regularly.
  21. Colby must've really fallen off if he's playing for Tampa.. likely on a low salary. A sub .300 OBP and a near 30% strikeout rate isn't going to get him much. He's also replacing LoMo at DH..
  22. Even 2M might be a stretch--they'd have to average 25,000/game, which Cleveland has not done since 2008.. and unlike then, the economy in that city was absolutely hammered by the mortgage crisis after 2008, and fans haven't returned. A return back to the glory days of the 90s is highly unlikely, unless they win a World Series.. they'll likely never draw the 3.5M they once did (of course, with reduced capacity, they max out at about 2.85M.
  23. Uh, this is actually true--remember last year's All-Star Game? Outside of Lindor, the average fan will not recognize anyone from Cleveland--as they do not get the coverage teams like the Yankees and Red Sox(and even the Blue Jays) do. The only way Cleveland players will get recognized is if the team WINS..
  24. Regardless, with the Cavs a NBA Finals candidate(they just added Kyle Korver recently), the Indians cannot count on fans showing up with most people likely to prefer watching LeBron James next door over Edwin and a bunch of players that are barely recognizable outside of Cleveland. Plus, attendance is poor in the spring due to the cold weather in Cleveland in April and May..
  25. It's THIS year I'm referring to. Just because they reached the World Series does not mean attendance will suddenly surge--Cleveland's economy has been decimated by losses in manufacturing, and now a strong US dollar is not going to help.. and talk is that most of the fans at the 2016 World Series games in Cleveland were Cubs fans.. Unless Trump magically makes jobs reappear in Cleveland, it's unlikely you'll ever see a return to the high attendances back in the 1990s when the team was a World Series contender.
