  1. Strong 1st inning in Tampa for the other half of the split squad by Oberholtzer against Yanks regulars.. and Biagini finally gets out of that jam here in Dunedin.
  2. Thornburg is also a product of the NL who had HR and walk issues, and was helped by a low BABIP.. he's going to regress hard.
  3. That wasn't even the regular lineup--all the regulars were back in Dunedin for tomorrow's split-squad. Only Beliveau and Sparkman have any shot of being considered for the Jays pen.. and neither are off to a good start.
  4. Rough outing for Sparkman in his 1st appearance..
  5. Beliveau just punched his bus ticket to Buffalo after that performance.
  6. Just be glad he's basically booked for Buffalo...
  7. Especially when the Sox are very thin at 3B, a position Shaw was playing.. if Sandoval flames out, they're in big trouble. Devers is a year away.. and options in the system are lacking.
  8. Tyler Thornburg sucks... even though it's early in the spring and one game, that trade with the Brewers is looking bad so far: 0.2 IP, 4H, 5ER, 1BB, 1K... about 30 pitches. Better be only working on something.. of course, need more info...
  9. Another perfect game going at the Mets/Red Sox game..Lugo, Molina, Montero have shut the Sox down thru 5.2 innings so far..
  10. Yanks pitchers have a perfect game going so far.. for how long, we'll have to wait and see, as the regulars are now out and the minor-leaguers are in..
  11. Unsurprisingly, Henry Owens still sucks..
  12. Bryan Mitchell wasting no time retiring the side for the Yankees..
  13. Luckily it's a extended spring training this year due to the WBC--so Donaldson will have time to recover.
  14. And he won't start opening day vs. the Blue Jays. He's expected back April 15th.. maybe, depending on the severity of the shoulder injury.
  15. On the subject of strange ST injuries, Royals reliever Brian Flynn out 8 weeks after falling through the roof of his barn: http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2017/02/14/royals-reliever-to-miss-eight-weeks-after-falling-through-the-roof-of-his-barn/
  16. Yes, apparently talk is that he needs TJS..
  17. I wouldn't rule them or Detroit out for the Central--despite all the talent and Edwin, Cleveland does have injury risks with Brantley and the rotation.. plus, how will Kluber, Miller, Tomlin, Bauer be after throwing so many innings last postseason? And they still have OF depth concerns, especially if Brantley doesn't come back 100%.. And of course, Cleveland is likely to get nothing out of their catchers.. neither Perez or Gomes have hit at all, though Perez at least has some OBP skills.. they're basically waiting for Francisco Meija to reach the majors in 2018, who will more than likely taking over C duties by then..
  18. Won't mean a thing if his defense sucks..just because he's lost weight does not mean he's better. Unfortunately, 3B is his only position available to play..
  19. He will be missed in Detroit for his commitment to try to bring a World Series to Detroit again and his years with the Red Wings.. Wait and see what happens with the Tigers organization--there is a risk of a major fire sale with Illitch gone, as the team can no longer afford their current payroll without Mike Illitch backing it.. it's not certain the son, Chris Illitch, who will inherit the team, will support a high payroll.
  20. Probably similar with an upgrade at backup catcher, and no Dickey/Thole. The drop from Edwin to Morales is a bit of a wash--and there's no guarantee Edwin will continue to put up the same numbers in Cleveland than in Toronto--the increasing K rate is a concern, plus he's going to unfavorable ballparks in the AL Central which could dent his numbers.. most of his HRs career were hit in hitter's parks in the AL East, Philly and Cincinnatti. Wouldn't be shocked if he sees his HR total drop to 30 or less.. Plus, getting Saunders out will help the D a little bit--Saunders was awful in LF. Could use another arm or two in the pen, though, and maybe another OF, then they'd be better.
  21. Matt Belisle to Minnesota for $2.05M. Surprising he didn't get a better deal after a strong year in 2016 in Washington..
  22. Coghlan hit .188 last year with the same amount of power as Carrera and poor defense.. and he's going to have a tough time making the Phillies with so many young OFs in the system and other competition for the bench. Why the hell is everybody thinking how great he is? Most teams weren't being fooled by his time with the Cubs last year.. not to mention he did nothing in the playoffs. That's why he only got a minor league deal. And the chances of him making the Phillies are mixed at best, fighting off competition in Kendrick, Herrera, Altherr, Saunders, Goeddel, Nava, Quinn, Williams, Cozens.. and BTW, he's awful in the infield defensively as well.
  23. Not a lot of teams want a no-power, poor defensive OF--which is why Coghlan only got a minor league deal. Jays can do better than this..
  24. Good,a LHP! When healthy, JP Howell is a good pitcher.. he had some good years with the Dodgers and Rays. Hopefully we'll see at least one more deal before pitchers/catchers report.
  25. Nats signed Joe Nathan and Matt Albers to minors deals. Washington is really desperate for anyone who can close.. right now, the bullpen is a concern, similar to Toronto..
