  1. Why can't any of our hits fall? Another line drive into LF hits a glove..
  2. Other teams have taken bad contracts as well. The Yankees took Soriano's bad contract last year and ended up having to release him recently. And we all know someone eventually is going to take one of the bad contracts of the Dodgers outfielders, all of which are significantly overpaid for their talent. And don't get me started on the Atlanta Braves(Uggla, the Upton bros.)
  3. Looks like another shakeup in the Jays lineup: Blue Jays-Official ‏@BlueJays 1h Today's @BlueJays lineup: Reyes-SS Kawasaki-2B Cabrera-LF Bautista-DH Navarro-C Rasmus-CF Johnson-1B Francisco-3B Gose-RF Why the heck was Navarro batting cleanup anyway? And Johnson should've been lower in the order anyway.
  4. No, no and no. No team will touch Uggla.
  5. O's and Mariners lost. Now we need wins tomorrow and Sunday against the weaker part of the Rangers rotation, Colby Lewis and Nick Tepesch. Both of them are HUGE dropoffs from Yu Darvish. We have Stroman and Buehrle going, and both probably have a good chance of beating the Rangers.
  6. It could be worse. At least Reyes and Buehrle do produce in some way. Atlanta is paying Uggla, BJ Upton and Justin Upton for lackluster production, especially Uggla (just released) and BJ Upton.
  7. Well, that's almost the last of the Angels prospects in the high minors. Angels better hope some of their lower-level prospects develop.. their farm is bone dry.
  8. I know there are a few teams who can't take any more money as well to my guess: Atlanta, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Cincy, Oakland (questionable). Many of these are small markets who are already maxed out on payroll, and likely will demand teams eat salary in trades. I believe the Yankees are in the same boat as well, especially considering they are already over the tax and have to pay a 40% penalty for every dollar.
  9. I imagine it's not just the Jays facing financial limitations at the deadline either. KC, Cleveland, Baltimore and Seattle are likely in the same boat.
  10. Only if Beltre and Rios hit. Neither lineup really impresses.
  11. Update on the Price/Zobrist to Seattle rumors: FRIDAY: Taijuan Walker‘s name is once again at the center of trade talks surrounding Price, reports Heyman. He adds that Tampa has also expressed interest in the likes of corner infield prospect D.J. Peterson and James Paxton, neither of which is particularly surprising; Peterson and Paxton are two of the top young players in Seattle’s system.
  12. No, it's because he showed improved stuff in the Brewers system, and was an upgrade over Chad Jenkins. And he will come out of the pen, most likely. It means we now have 3 lefties in the pen now.
  13. Brad Mills throws on average: Fastball 87.4 mph Changeup 78.9 mph Cutter 73 mph FC 81.2 mph He has had an uptick in his velocity, and had good results in AAA with the Brewers system. (4-2, 1.56 ERA, 0.92 WHIP) Mills isn't the same pitcher he was in 2011. And did you even see his starts with the A's recently? Only reason he was let go was due to the Shark/Hammel trade, which also got Pomeranz and Milone sent to AAA.
  14. Of course, Jenkins mostly was pitching in mop up duty, and with underwhelming stuff. Jays probably preferred to have another lefty in the pen, and one who can go multiple innings to go along with Todd Redmond. Could be a bad sign for Santos and McGowan.. especially with Sanchez expected up within the next two weeks.
  15. Barry Davis ‏@SNBarryDavis 1m Chad Jenkins sent to AAA Buffalo to make room for Brad Mills. #bluejays Most likely Jenkins is down to get work.. he's getting nothing with the big club right now.
  16. LINEUP: Blue Jays-Official ‏@BlueJays 2m Tonight's @BlueJays lineup: Reyes-SS Cabrera-LF Bautista-RF Navarro-DH Johnson-1B Rasmus-CF Francisco-3B Thole-C Kawasaki-2B Dickey-P No word on the move re: Mills.
  17. Did someone forget to tell ESPN that there's an MLB team in Toronto? I don't remember Bautista being traded to the Yankees. http://nextimpulsesports.com/2014/07/14/espn-blows-jose-bautista-graphic-says-plays-yankees/
  18. Making a trade for Price isn't wise for the Mariners, especially considering they have as many, if not more needs than the Jays, especially in CF, SS, 1B, LF, RF, backup C, and hitters that hit for AVG and OBP.
  19. OK, here's the pitching matchups for the Rangers series: Darvish (2.96 SIERA) vs. Dickey (4.23 SIERA) adv. Rangers Lewis (4.15 SIERA) vs Stroman (3.44 SIERA) adv. Jays Tepesch (4.79 SIERA) vs. Buehrle (4.51 SIERA) adv. Jays Of course, considering how gutted the Rangers lineup is, a sweep of the Rangers is very possible. 2 of 3 at minimum.
  20. Apparently, Seattle only wants Zobrist and not Price. Besides, Price apparently will not accept a trade to Seattle: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24625428/mariners-talking-about-zobrist-could-talks-expand-to-include-price Sounds like a possible Franklin/Zobrist deal could be in the offing.. It also says many players have Seattle on their no-trade clauses, because of the air in Seattle suppressing offense, which hurts their value. They've looked at Willingham and Viciedo.. and have gotten nowhere.
  21. No kidding. Only 1.5 back of the Angels. All they need is another starter, as Wilson is on the DL. The only real red flag in the rotation is Jered Weaver, who is pitching above what he should be (4.17 SIERA vs. a 3.45 ERA). Matt Shoemaker and Tyler Skaggs are actually better than they've shown, and can improve. And what else needs to be said about Garret Richards? But still, one more arm would help make LA a championship contender, and will almost certainly make the playoffs. At this point, LA will at least get a wild card. They have few weaknesses in offense and the rotation, and are trying to fix their long putrid bullpen. They have a better chance of challenging Oakland than the Seattle Mariners, who have Felix, Iwakuma.. and a lot of regression candidates in the rotation which could sink their playoffs hope, along with their lousy offense besides Cano and Seager. Not sure if a Price/Zobrist trade will help, though, as Seattle needs a lot, including corner OFs, a 1B, a SS and bench help.
  22. 2 games above .500 for the Jays, not 1. And we have the easiest schedule of contenders, starting with a series vs. the MLB worst Texas Rangers. Orioles would win, IF they didn't have the most difficult schedule post All-Star break. Not to mention that the team was mediocre, just barely above .500 before a recent Texas Rangers series. And they have yet to play Oakland or LA. Also, most sabermetric measures are not favourable to their starting rotation.. it's part of the reason I do not feel Baltimore will sustain recent success, and I expect regression from Cruz, Pearce and Jones. And BTW, Davis is NOT coming around. .199/.309/.391 is not exactly coming around, and he's worsened every month since the season started, currently hitting .146/.182/.293 in July. At this point, Baltimore may need to seek an upgrade at the deadline at 1B or the OF, as Davis has become a liability for the team. Most of Davis' decline began in the 2nd half of last season, and has accelerated. Remember, Davis was dumped by Texas for being a high K/low AVG guy.. he's regressed back into the same habits. Good thing the O's didn't give him a long term deal!
