  1. Neither us or Cleveland is going to the postseason regardless.
  2. The Royals now only need a OAK loss tomorrow vs. the Rangers or a win vs. the White Sox.. and they will clinch a postseason berth for the first time since 1985.
  3. Royals are 3 outs away from guaranteeing a tie-breaker vs. Seattle at worst and keeping their division hopes alive. And Seattle and Cleveland are still alive, as Beltre just walked off the A's with a HR. Still think Seattle has a chance, as the Angels will likely shut down starters as they will clinch the best record if the Jays beat the O's tomorrow. FYI, the pitching matchups for that Angels/M's series: Weaver vs. Iwakuma Johnny Everystaff(and Cory Rasmus) vs. Paxton CJ Wilson vs. King Felix If the A's struggle, it wouldn't surprise me if we see a tie-breaker on Monday between the A's and Mariners. Luckily, the M's will be back at Safeco where they pitch well.
  4. Only if Boston remembers they have to offer a lot of money to get Lester back. Part of the reason for the trade was because they refused to give him the huge deal he wanted.. it's rumored Boston offered only 4/$70M.
  5. If you've seen him play at Fenway, it's apparently not good on his fielding. Only his arm pretty much saves him, as we've seen quite a bit this season. Most of the complaints on him also are on his OBP skills, which are poor.. a sub .300 OBP is not a good thing for a power hitter like him.. if he hit for a better average, it wouldn't be so exposed.
  6. Red Sox Nation is souring on Cespedes.. to them, the trade is looking more favorable to Oakland, especially with the A's postseason bound: http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/alex-speier/2014/09/24/gamble-fate-red-sox-landmark-bet-yoenis-cesped
  7. Agree with you on that. Thankfully Rasmus is gone after this season. And when is Brett Lawrie ever going to stay healthy??
  8. Yanks eliminated from contention. This is going to hurt that team.. less revenue = increased issues with their stadium debt payments and a risk of a debt downgrade by ratings agencies. Basically, the Yanks are forced to perpetually spend in hopes of making the playoffs, because a rebuild may cause them to risk having their debt downgraded by Moody's (their outlook was downgraded to stable from positive last year) Here's the main reason the Yanks are forced to spend and never rebuild: http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303997604579238550215265832
  9. Injuries don't help. And nobody expected Rasmus to regress to the point that Gose/Pompey are actually better options. And who knew that Santos and Delabar would be so bad that both would end up in Buffalo? Baseball is a tough game to predict.. earlier this season, everyone expected Boston to be planning for the playoffs right now, instead of playing for playing for a top 5 pick in the draft (currently at #6 in the 2015 draft). They were picked to win 90 games, not lose 90 games. Ditto for the Rays.
  10. Season's officially over now. Let's just try to finish above .500.. we only need 2 wins! And we can kill Seattle's playoff hopes if we win one more or sweep..
  11. They're likely printing playoff tix at either the O.co or Kaufman Stadium right now.. Seattle is collapsing down the stretch.
  12. Hey, it's nice to see the Jays giving Pompey a chance to win the CF job next season, although he'll likely start in AAA. Absolute must-win for Seattle tonight.. lose and OAK and KC will almost certainly win the 2 wild cards.
  13. A's and Royals are saying thanks to the Blue Jays.. Royals beat the Indians 2-0, A's currently lead 6-1 on the Angels.. CJ Wilson was garbage AGAIN. Better hope Shoemaker gets healthy.. or they're going to struggle in the playoffs against Oakland or Kansas City/Detroit.
  14. Two of that core will be gone after next season (Upton, Heyward). And Gattis could be gone as well this offseason.
  15. Royals/Indians game finally done. Indians win 4-3. Royals lose .5 game in the standings. It means that if KC gets swept by the Indians, Cleveland may have a shot at making the postseason, depending what Seattle does.
  16. Sadly, BJ Upton and Chris Johnson have untradeable deals. And yes, they do need better bats.. it wouldn't be surprising if they dangle J. Upton and/or Jason Heyward in the offseason for more consistent bats that can get on base and not K a ton.
  17. The new GM has a huge mess to clean up as well. BJ Upton is an albatross, they face questions regarding Beachy and Medlen post TJS, plus they have a roster to fill out..
  18. That trade is difficult to evaluate. Remember, it was sort of a three-way deal between the Jays, White Sox and Cardinals. And Edwin Jackson left quickly after that season. Rzep was later dealt to Cleveland in a dump deal.
  19. Yes, we all know the Jays didn't evaluate Gomes well.. of course, he wouldn't be a regular had Santana not been moved to DH/1B full time.
  20. And yet they have no playoff series wins.. and they have a boatload of needs, and limited payroll parameters.
  21. Just to refresh your memory: January 24, 2013: Traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks with Chris Johnson to the Atlanta Braves for Brandon Drury (minors), Nick Ahmed, Randall Delgado, Martin Prado and Zeke Spruill. Drury is surging up the D-Backs system, after a good season in A-AA. Nick Ahmed's role is unclear with Gregorius and Owings in the system. Randall Delgado was garbage, Prado did some good stuff with the D-Backs.. and was traded to the Yankees. Zeke Spruill is uncertain. BTW, Chris Johnson is awful... the Braves gave him that extension, and he has regressed offensively and defensively. And don't be surprised if the Braves look at trading both BJ and Justin Upton this offseason.. one's an albatross, the other is a free agent after 2015 and unlikely to resign in Atlanta.
  22. Frank Wren isn't that great of a GM.. as shown by those awful Uggla and Upton signings, along with the Justin Upton trade. And the Braves are messed up for the next few years.. almost $80M for 8 players (and Uggla's contract) in 2015, with arb raises coming, and HUGE holes on the roster and farm system. At least the Jays have a somewhat decent system compared to the Braves..
  23. Hopefully the Jays will look for a 2B in the offseason so that Goins is in AAA and Kawasaki is on the bench as a utility player. Oh, and Izturis returns BTW.
  24. Holy, is Seattle crashing and burning down the stretch! 2/3 lost vs. the Astros. And with Oakland still struggling, the Yankees and Indians could STILL sneak in (more likely the Indians.) Oakland walked off on the Phillies.. they're in good shape for a berth now.. if they can beat the Angels and Rangers.
  25. HOU up 10-1 on Seattle. 5 HRs for Houston tonight (Carter, Presley, Dominguez, Corporan, Marisnick). Cleveland could be back in the playoff race by the end of tonight, as they are leading 4-2 on Minnesota. A win and they're only 3.0/3.5 back, and in striking distance of potentially upsetting the balance of the wild card race, possibly knocking two of OAK/KC/SEA out of the mix if they beat KC this coming week.
