  1. Mariners are balking at giving more than 3 years to Melky Cabrera. Perhaps someone else, even possibly the Jays, could jump in? http://blog.thenewstribune.com/mariners/2014/12/11/winter-meetings-mariners-head-home-still-looking-to-upgrade-club/ Seems like the M's would rather trade for Viciedo than spend money on Cabrera.
  2. Jays already made their moves with Donaldson, Saunders and Martin. I imagine they're just waiting for the trade and free agent market to cool down.. many of the teams are demanding high prices for arms.
  3. Fangraphs was not kind to Porcello, projecting a 4.15 ERA with the Red Sox, and Masterson with a 4.11 ERA(actually, the rotation, pending the Wade Miley trade, doesn't project well.) Better hope HanRam and Sandoval hit and stay healthy, along with Pedroia and Ortiz. http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=ALL&teamid=3 When I said they needed pitching, I was meaning like Jon Lester and Cole Hamels.. not a bunch of mid-to-back end rotation arms.
  4. Yes, but until Buxton and Sano reach the majors, they aren't going anywhere until 2016 at the earliest.
  5. Hughes, Nolasco, Gibson, Milone, May, Meyer? Not a great rotation.. not a single ace in that staff.
  6. No idea. They must be really trying to find a shortcut to contention and putting at least a legit team on the field for when Sano and Buxton reach the majors..
  7. You forgot Joe Kelly. And Boston isn't paying $200M for Scherzer.. nor overpaying for Shields, as with the Porcello and Miley deals, they are nearing their payroll limit for 2015. It indicates that Boston will not pay $20M+ for a pitcher, unless it was Jon Lester. When they said they would go over the tax, they likely only meant if it was for Jon Lester, based on these moves. At least Mookie Betts now has a place to play in either CF or RF, unless Cherington decides to give JBJ another chance to fail offensively, even while playing Gold Glove defense.
  8. Unless Boston gets an ace pitcher (unlikely now), they're looking at .500 at best. Remember, they traded Cespedes away, depleting some of their offense. Wade Miley and Rick Porcello aren't cutting it in the pitching staff.. they really needed to resign Jon Lester.
  9. Hulet was way off, considering none of them were taken.
  10. No Blue Jays were picked in the Rule 5 draft, BTW. Mets and Marlins, on the other hand, were raided in both the MLB and AAA phases.
  11. The Rule 5 draft is getting increasingly a waste.. due to rule changes, it's difficult to find the next Johan Santana, Roberto Clemente, or Dan Uggla.. plus, considering that you have to keep the player on the 25-man the entire season, it makes it less worth it.
  12. Especially by ripping off the Marlins (loads of panning of the Gordon trade in the media on Miami's side), and possibly getting Rollins.
  13. Most likely. He probably realized that Boston is desperate for arms, and decided to raise the price, especially considering Miley's years of control.
  14. At the rate it's going, Dave Stewart's going to likely pull the plug on the deal.. he probably realized that Boston is desperate, and probably wants more.
  15. Likely at the cost of their farm system. You'd think with a deep farm like that, they would've done better than Miley, who'll get killed in the AL East, especially in a league with the DH. And he gets killed in hitter's parks, such as Philadelphia (6.55 ERA), Miller Park (8.38), Chicago NL (7.50 ERA), and Colorado (4.76 ERA). And considering his trends in BBs and H/9IP, he'll be likely putting up mid to high 4s in ERA in the AL, especially playing games at Fenway, Rogers Centre, Camden Yards and Yankee Stadium.
  16. Cherington should be fired if this deal goes through. Webster and De La Rosa should be kept, even if they end up in the bullpen, especially considering the lack of depth in the Red Sox bullpen and questions with their other pitching prospects in AAA. Plus, Miley, despite his durability, is no more than a #4-#5 starter at best in the AL, and isn't getting Boston anywhere.
  17. What's the appeal with Wade Miley? He's not exactly a top-flight pitcher.. outside of his 2012 season, he hasn't been anything special.
  18. Astros also about to get Pat Neshek as well:
  19. Luke Gregerson to the Astros for 3 years/$18.5M.
  20. Gordon Wittenmyer ‏@GDubCub ML exec with ties to at least one team in bidding believes Lester leaning toward Giants. Looks increasingly likely Boston's gonna miss out... guess Lester is still pissed off at Sox ownership over the low-ball offer last year for an extension.
  21. Watch Ben Cherington absolutely panic soon.. and BTW, he won't be getting Hamels anytime soon, as the Phillies are not interesting in trading him and prefer to build around him.. say goodbye to Betts and many other Red Sox prospects within days after Lester does this:
  22. And the Dodgers really want to get out of those bad OF contracts, even if they give up Matt Kemp. They need to trim payroll..
  23. Devan Marerro's not close to MLB ready with the bat, and needs a full season in AAA to improve it. His glove is ready.. but unless he hits, he won't get any playing time with Xander Bogaerts at SS.
  24. Seems best suited for SS.. decent power and OBP in the minors, yet to translate in the majors. Perhaps a change of scenery will help.
