  1. Not many would disagree with you. If the plan was to not add payroll this coming year and make no improvements, then they should have already made trades and dump players to retool for future years. Like, the fact AA thinks just because this team 'COULD' be healthier this year and that alone makes this team a playoff team, then he's living on another planet. Better, possibly, but the fans, vegas, and every GM in MLB knows this team is no where near a playoff team.
  2. AA prefers players near the end of their careers or on the decline for some reason. Plus, like you said, he wouldn't cost any prospects, so that goes against AA's philosophy of destroying the farm.
  3. The real answer is. AA has no fkn clue how to run a ballclub.
  4. They basically have 4 #1s, while the Jays have 0 number 1s. What's scary is Ryu/Tanaka/Kershaw are all mid 20s as well.
  5. Ya, the dodgers are locking up players entering their prime, not 35+ year olds. They also are able to sign free agents. So not quite like the Jays lol
  6. I live in Montreal, no one is ever happy here. I'm sure NY is like disneyworld compared to what we have.
  7. AA just needs to stop pretending that TO has a chance with Tanaka, and just focus on some moves that have a chance of actually happening. After the whole Darvish fiasco, I have little faith in this team outbidding anyone. It can't be good for the PR of your team when you're linked to several good international free agents, and then you don't sign any of them, especially in the size market Toronto is playing in.
  8. Actually I've been twice, I have family there. There are tons of high end sushi places not just Nobu.
  9. unfortunately LA is all sushi, how do you think all those anorexic models/actresses survive down there.
  10. I heard he loves the weather, taxes, and chances of winning with toronto so it's a done deal, I bet.
  11. Except if he wants to play in NY/LA or boston like what is being said, then he'd probably go to LA. Plus, they will have one of the best rotations in baseball with him there, if not the best.
  12. That's probably the only thing that might work this year for them to not finish last in the div again. I think AA is counting on that too, it could start to catch on.
  13. Twins already told his agent they'd meet his price on a short term deal. He's stated he's looking for a long term deal.
  14. They were never really in Tanaka since the Dodgers/Yankees are in on him, so it was just BS talk to spur interest for the fans to pretend the Blue Jays were looking to win this year. Jiminez/Santana are fall back options just to save face. Both of those guys are pretty inconsistent, and will cost a draft pick. I would have preferred Garza. That being said, I'd still prefer Santana over Jiminez.
  15. Well the Jays could solidify their finish in second to last place in the division I guess. Other than that ya, going after Shark with 2 arb years left and not adding more pieces wouldn't make much sense. It's not as if he's signed super cheap for a long time. He'd also require giving up 1-2 good prospects. Not the best long term strategic move.
  16. I think those are the moves we'll most likely see as well. I think this club will have to trade a pitcher to free up payroll though if we add another 10m+ pitcher.
  17. This club doesn't have the payroll to add 2 front line pitchers anyways. Tanaka + Garza would fit the bill, but that would be 37m or so in added payroll. Someone on another board mentioned that several weeks ago Beest said in the Globe that 2014 payroll would stay around where it is now, now I'm not sure if that's true or not, but if it is, don't expect anything done to make this a playoff team.
  18. Not really, this club has financial constraints. Shark doesn't make this a playoff team, and you prevent this club from going after going a #1 guy. Buerhle isn't being moved, this club does not need another #3 guy.
  19. I'll explain more why it makes no sense for this club to go after him. He has team control for 2 more years and is still arb eligible until then. Having him next year, does not make this a playoff team. You can't just acquire a huge quantity of starting pitchers. Teams build rotations based on slots, and who is their ace, #2, #3, #4, #5 guy + depth. So, this team would still need a #1 guy even if they acquired him which is not going to happen considering the money that he will be making and the rest of the staff. Like I said, he's a #3, and we have Buerhle as our #3. We are looking for a pitcher to slot in at #1. I know he'd improve the staff, and if we didn't have Buerhle I would definitely go after him AND a #1 guy. But, this club HAS Buerhle for the 3 slot.
  20. He's still like a #3 on a good pitching staff. This team needs a true young ace, a #1 or #2 guy, no point in acquiring Samardzija, since Buerhle is the #3 guy and they aren't going to be able to trade him without sending some cash the other way, in other words, he's staying.
  21. I'm a bit confused myself. But, I'm not sure now, because do teams have the full 30 days to agree to the release fee? I think if it worked where teams agreed to post the release fee before negotiating a deal with the agent, then that list of teams would have been leaked already.
  22. Ok so here are the rules "The new agreement between Nippon Professional Basbeall (NPB) and the MLB features new rules. In the new posting system… 1) A NPB team must agree if they want to post one of their players between November 1st and February 1st. 2) The NPB team will make a “release fee” that teams may post to get the rights to negotiate with the player. However, the maximum “release fee” that can be requested is $20 million. 3) In the event that there is a tie on the “release fee,” then all teams will get an attempt at negotiating with the posted player with the intent of signing the player. 4) If the posted player is unable to agree to a contract with a MLB team, the “release fee” is returned to the team and the player returns to his NPB team until the following November 1st when he may formally request to be posted again."
  23. now I am confused, I'm reading different bidding processes for him
  24. everyday I wake up hoping I'll read on MLBTR Jays land Tanaka + Garza and trade Morrow+ for Phillips ... although payroll would be like 170m, so no chance it really does happen
