  1. They CAN. Whether they will is doubtful. Considering theyre going with Saunders and Pillar/Pompey, doesnt look like they want to allocate resources to their Outfield.
  2. At least he has a rich wife. That minor league salary probably doesnt go too far these days as a 29 year old.
  3. OP - I'm planning on going to the opener. I'm flying from Chicago (where i live) on the Saturday and leaving on the Tuesday. Not sure about tickets yet...I don't want to pay a crazy amount, but I am planning on "camping out" online the minute that single-game tickets go on sale, and trying to get them for face value that way. I've done that in the past for Cubs opening day tickets (even when they were good a few years back) and after hitting refresh 19312324 times, I was always successful. As for hotels, I went to a Jays Yankees series in 2013 and stayed at Hilton Midtown, at 53rd and 6th. The NFL draft and a couple other things were going on in the city that weekend, so that hotel was expensive at about $259/night, but if you want to stay outside of midtown, or cheaper yet, outside of manhattan, you can get something more affordable.
  4. I think this Yankees trade is great for them. Eovaldi and Jones for Prado and Phelps. Pisses me off more regarding the trade deadline. Couldve had Prado for nothing. Flipped him with a Marco Estrada or something similar to Phelps, for Eovaldi. He'd look nice at the back of the Jays rotation, pushing back Sanchez to the pen.
  5. To SD for Joaquin Benoit. Beg them to throw in the $3M difference in salary for 2015
  6. Smaller moves but getting Norris, and flipping hannigan for Middlebrooks looks like a coup for them.
  7. Whoa, Kalish is only 26?? Feel like ive been hearing about this guy FOREVER. Good flyer to take...Had similar surgery to Peyton Manning, expected a similar type recovery.
  8. If its a package, then it would make more sense, obviously depending on who the other pieces are. If its straight up Myers out Souza in, makes no sense.
  9. Doesn't make sense from the Rays' standpoint, unless theyve given up on Myers. Theyre trading for a less established, yet older player in Souza? Both are pre-arb, so money shouldnt be an issue at this point for Myers.
  10. How do you define Going for it? Every GM goes for it given the budget they're given. Whether the payroll is 50 mil, 100 mil, 150 mil, every GM is 'going for it', by fielding the best team they can with their given budget. If you define Going for it by the payroll, or an unlimited budget for payroll, then the Jays will never be going for it, at least under current ownership. That said, a budget of $130-140 should be enough for a team to be serious about going for it. I think you can say that AA is going for it in that he's traded youth and given up a first rd pick for players that will help now. We get the limbo feeling because Beeston and AA are never honest about what their budget is, and we always worry in the back of our minds that at any given moment, everything can be slashed. But to answer your question. We have a $130-140 mil payroll, which is enough to win now. We are trying to win now. We are going for it.
  11. Yeah, I don't think its an unreasonable return, or that one side fleeced the other. But goes to show, if money is tight, or AA doesnt see value at the level of $$ being paid for free agent relievers, we wont just be able to flip a couple mid level prospects to get quality pen arms. The price paid in terms of assets may be just as high or higher than just paying money alone for a reliever.
  12. Wow, Rays just traded Matt Joyce to the Angels for Jepsen, who has closer stuff. Looks like going the trade route is going to be just as expensive in terms of talent, as the free agent market is in terms of dollars.
  13. The difference is that people on this board would remain consistent, and call it an overpay if the Jays had signed him to an identical deal. Wilner, on the other hand, would be saying that its still a great low risk deal, no such thing as a bad 1-year deal, this is the price you have to pay in this market, etc. etc. etc.
  14. What a joke Wilner is. All offseason he's been mentioning Motte, but when the Cubs sign him, and Jays fans question it, he takes a swig of that rogers kool-aid, and come up with this gem. Basically everything the Jays do is right, everything they don't do is right. Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 · 12h 12 hours ago I did want #Bluejays to sign Jason Motte, it's true. But I wanted them to sign him for about 1/3 of what #Cubs gave him. #NoLongerLowRisk
  15. in CAD to Rubles, its gone way up. Joke is on the rest of the majors.
  16. If he hit .280 over 550 AB's, he'd be worth like 6 wins.
  17. Butler was scheduled to make 12.5mil this year, so its still a $4mil savings for the Royals. That said, Dayton Moore said on MLB Network that in hindsight, seeing where the market has gone he may have picked up the Butler option.
  18. Eduardo A. EncinaVerified account ‏@EddieInTheYard #Orioles had preliminary discussions w/ #Pirates on Travis Snider for Matusz deal but there doesn't seem to be much progress at the moment. Thoughts on this? I cant tell who would be giving up too much.
  19. McGowan and Janssen are the next best targets, in all honesty. AA is obsessing over "value" again in the free agent market. He's going to end up having to give up assets to acquire relief help which rarely works out well for him.
  20. Is Russ Adams still in the org?? Can we get Reddick for him?
  21. Wendle is all they got? Also Harold just said the Moss move puts the Indians right at the top of the AL Central now. lol
  22. My favorite story is the one when Gillick called his wife from Chicago to tell her about the trade. Paraphrasing, she said "YOU DID WHAT? YOU TRADED WHO?? Get back home to Toronto right away before you screw up the team more"
  23. This about the optics of this. At the press conference, Kenny could run onto the stage, knock Beeston over, and slide into his seat as President of the Blue Jays. Im in.
  24. Yes, this is true. Except for last season really, Nonis has never really been the true GM. He was assistant GM under Burke. Got the GM title when Burke was fired, then they brought in Shanahan above him as President, Hockey Operations, which essentially was a demotion, although with the "title inflation" he is still GM in name.
