  1. Nothing new in this to those of us who are aware of Siddall's journey, but a nice article nonetheless. I think Siddall is amazing, whether it be with Jerry, or Buck/Pat on the TV side. http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2014/08/column_first_grief_then_a_spar.html
  2. No one knows for sure, obviously, but the key words here are project to be and Sanchez definitely projects to be a 1 or 2 starter. Even with fans always overvaluing their prospects, saying Sanchez will likely be a long man in the bullpen....is ludicrous.
  3. Whats hilarious is that his ultimate argument against Headley is "He'd already be on the DL by now" Good analysis Wilner. And you know if the Jays did get Headley, Wilner would be the one spouting the peripheral stats to any callers saying that we got this guy and he's only hitting .241.
  4. Tim and Sid with Wilner right now is classic.
  5. UPDATE. 3/4 Point of the Season. 122 GP. Jays are 63-59, .516, 2nd Place 7.5 Games Behind the Orioles in the AL East, 3 Games Behind in the race for the 2nd WC. Current Pace: 84 Wins. Pythagorean W-L R:542 RA 528 pW% = .513 pW = 62.596 pL = 59.404 63-59. ACTUAL results are in line with expected results thus far. As for the prediction contest: JFAS and GordieDougie both predicted 84 wins. 6. And you guys were bitching about Rogers not spending money to improve the club.
  7. I'll reserve judgement until his mom speaks on the issue.
  8. Calling it now. Jays will get Kelly Johnson from the Red Sox. Hopefully AA can find enough spare change in between the TD Seats to pay for him.
  9. I don't know the diagnosis, since I'm not a doctor, and don't play one one http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com, but the one thing that scared me was MRI, which I dont think is something you often hear when it comes to a sore back. I am thinking, though, that after the Lind Mom incident, the Jays will get an MRI for anyone who farts hard for the rest of the season, so probably just general soreness and he's literally day to day.
  10. Good to hear about Drew. Good writer. Sidenote, whats the big deal about Fangraphs articles appearon on SN.ca? Its not exclusive content, cant we just read it on fangraphs like we always have? I guess to those who haven't ever been to Fangraphs, its good exposure. And yes, Wilner's SABR aptitude ends at being condescending to any caller who mentions pitcher Wins. "Tell me you didn't just reference Wins in discussing the success of a Pitcher". Gee Mike, up until 2010, you were doing the same.
  11. They've definitely violated that narrative. When the money was needed for Ervin Santana, where was it? They had to pass the hat around the clubhouse to get guys to defer salary in order to try to sign him. What an embarrassment. And Bob Elliott is a third rate writer? Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.
  12. At that point I think they will stick to the company line, or change their talking points once again. I agree, it is very shortsighted, but how many times have they violated the narrative of 'When money is needed from Rogers, it will be there'?? How many times have we been back and forth between that (WE WILL SPEND!!), and payroll parameters (WE CANT SPEND!!!), then offseason before 2013 (LOOK WE'RE SPENDING), then offseason before 2014 (WE CANT SPEND!!), then early season 2014 when it was 'Money will be there at the deadline if we need it (WE WILL SPEND!!!), to the deadline passing with fat f***ing nothing when there were players to be had for basically salary absorption (WE CANT SPEND!!!). Actions speak louder than words.
  13. I do not believe AA when he says that the Jays have financial flexibility. I base that on the offseason, the Bob Elliott info, as well as how AA awkwardly worked his way around the question when asked after that report came out. It makes total sense for AA to lie about it, and not enrage the fan base. That directive (to lie) could have directly come from Beeston or Rogers, I don't know, but I personally do not believe him. I am not a sky is falling guy. I am not pissed they didnt get Price or Lester, given the asking price in players, but I believe there were players to be had that would have only cost money, and they didnt acquire them, and that is what angers me.
  14. Do these Cuban free agents not have to adhere to the same 6 years ML service for free agency?
  15. Does anyone know how many viewers a mid-week Leafs game typically gets?
  16. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 18s Hearing from multiple sources that Lester to #Orioles is not close. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen. But not happening yet.
  17. We can still be disappointed that the Orioles are getting him. Also, lets wait and see what the return is. If its something we would be comfortable with, and the connotation is that the Jays didnt match because of money, then we can bitch.
  18. Other teams do this thing called trades to improve themselves when they are falling behind in the race and facing injuries. The Jays should try this 'Trade' thing.
  19. Profit and Loss of the Rogers Blue Jays Baseball Partnership within the context of Rogers media has nothing to do with payroll? Do you think you're on a Yankees board?
  20. Like the optimism you've brought.
  21. Good Job Rogers! http://www.rogers.com/web/ir/financial-reporting/quarterly-reports/
  22. Was thinking about this recently. The Jays have a LOT of salary coming off of the books the next few years, with only Reyes' $22mil guaranteed past 2015. Assuming Bautista and EEs' options are picked up, we're at $46 mil payroll + a few more mil for buyouts in 2016. While that flexibility is great (albeit not as great in a non-capped league), theres a lot of uncertainty. Would it be advantageous to sign Hutch and Stroman to Chris Archer - Type "team friendly" deals that give the team cost certainty through their Arbitration years and a Free agent year or 2. If they would accept such a deal, granted, big if, the Jays would pay a little more than they would in the near-term years, but it would help us a lot down the road, when it seems we'll have to be looking at the free agency market to fill holes. Flip side. The Ricky Romero and Morrow contracts, while thought to be "team friendly" at the time have not worked out for the team at all. Also, The Policy of 5-year contracts term max would preclude a deal that would be advantageous to both sides, since the Jays couldnt take the contract into a free-agent year. Not getting that value, they'd have to bring down the near-term premium to the ML min salary they'd offer in the pre-arb years that the player would value in such a deal. Thoughts?
  23. I've resigned myself to the fact that there wont be any major moves, due to payroll constraints. I believe now that Rogers will not give the Jays additional funds, so anything will have to be money in=money out. I can see someone claiming Santos, and the Jays using that to get a guy like Bastardo or similar setup type guy. They'll spin it like EE, Lind, Lawrie, Morrow coming back is better than anything they could acquire on the trade market.
  24. This is why I believe the Jays have no payroll space. This trade couldve been done last month. SD just wanted to clear the salary. You couldve given them back a bag of balls.
