  1. Yes he may have had trade value, who knows for sure? On July 20th, he was 0-6 with a 6.75 era.
  2. During 2016, I wonder how close Cecil got to being released?
  3. in 2016, there were a lot of games that Cecil stunk the place up. Later in the season, he started to get some LH batters out, and eventually, most batters. I am glad that the Jays did not offer him this contract.
  4. Got to like his K's. just not the BB.
  5. Have to be a good move to claim him and trade Smoak for a box of balls. That way there is only a slight increase in salary, but a big increase in value. he could platoon at LF, 1B, pinch hit and be an injury replacement for JD.
  6. Shi Davidi confirmed this offer in his Sportsnet broadcast. Seems like the Jays made the effort.
  7. Ah yes, what 1 yr out of 12. His final year as a Jay, even though he had 102 rbi's, he was not great. He was not Joe Carter.
  8. With Joe, he was great until his final season with the jays. I distinctly recall that during his final year, he was getting under the ball, or hitting the ball off the end of the bat , resulting in lazy fly balls instead of his dead pull home runs. I knew he was all done.
  9. No, I watched him play.
  10. Joe Carter at 30, had 115 rbi,s. His 5th consecutive 100 rbi season. I guess you never saw him play either.
  11. Is it possible that the numbers Over Time, get skewed by the fact that the player is playing for several years past his prime? If you eliminated the years that a batter plays outside his prime, before and after, how does that affect his numbers?
  12. I take it you never saw Joe Carter play? Let me put this in one perspective. If today, Joe Carter was in his prime say 30 yrs old, and a free agent. he would be at the Top of the list of available free agents. Every baseball fan would be screaming for their team to sign him. He would easily command a contract exceeding 5yr 125 mill. If Russ Atkins signed him , every Jay fan would be shouting for Joy, except for a few of you. Would you be one of the complainers?
  13. Tabler is an example of many batters who rise to the occasion. Forget his bases loaded stats. With RISP he hit .317/ .388 1298PA. Compare that to his .261/.324 2267PA with no runners on. Was this luck?
  14. I rest my case.
  15. Take a look at Saunders career. He has never hit in clutch situations, hence he has never had many season rbi,s. Smoak, same thing. poor clutch, poor rbi,s every year. Great hitters control the situation. fowling off pitches until they get one they like, taking advantage of pitchers mistakes, hitting to defensive weaknesses, sure there is some luck involved, but are good hitters lucky, and poor hitters unlucky? Don't think so.
  16. you are wrong that clutch is not a skill, you are born with it. You cant learn it. It is the ability to rise to the occasion, the opportunity, instead of getting nervous and either trying too hard or getting so confused that you cant concentrate. Good closers are very good examples of clutch pitchers. Pat Tabler had the ability to hit +.500 with the bases loaded. Molitor, Carter, JB, George Bell, Alomar could all get hits when the game was on the line. There is a very noticeable trait about HOF batters, they all could hit in the clutch.
  17. November 12th today
  18. Spanky, give your head a shake.....
  19. Morales can hit well, and you are right about his clutch stats. kind of Anti Saunders. What good are batters who hit 25 hr with nobody on base, yet cant hit .200 with men on. the game is all about scoring more runs than your opponent.
  20. Extensions are for tomorrow. yes very important.
  21. you don't think they are in a Win Now mode? ownership knows they are close.......
  22. I don't totally disagree. However how do you replace Edwins bat for less than 20 mill a yr? You cant. Nobody knows how much $$ is available this winter. I think there is a lot. I think the FO has been told to get the job done, meaning improving the team over the last 2 seasons. so I see a bunch of improvements coming, that will cost some $$.
  23. Somebody has to be on the bench.
  24. Edwins agent already stated that they were prepared to offer a home town discount. Edwin wants to play for the Jays. So at 20 mill/yr for Edwin, you have 31 mill a year for 200+ rbi,s every year. That is excellent value. Add Dexter Fowler into the mix, and add another 80-100 RBIs and lengthen the lineup that much more. This is the first of many moves to come.
  25. Nothing to dislike about this move. Its Nov 11th. First significant move of the off season and a whole lot of complaining?? This move was about a fulltime DH. All Morales has to do is hit. Which he does very well. I don't see this as shutting Edwin out. The jays can still sign him. However having Morales and Dexter Fowler added to the lineup, for Edwins salary, may be a more productive value.
