  1. I sure think Gardenhire is a fantastic manager. Give him a mediocre team and he will help them overachieve. He's the one manager I'd take out of anyone around, after Madden who I think is the best manager (and most likeable) in baseball #myopinion
  2. I dunno, I just think he'll be middling and not find a role until he's like 30, and then be a fantastic closer. Just a hunch. Of course I hope he wins a Cy Young as a starter.
  3. I honestly expect one of the young bucks to be starting by June. Someone will have to be DFA'ed.
  4. Since we're stuck with an 8-man bullpen for a while, why not unofficially piggyback the #5 slot - Happ/McGowan would be a good combo, ~3 innings each. You bring Happ in the 3rd or 4th when you have a couple of lefties up, saving McG the velocity drop and going (hopefully) through the order a 3rd time...
  5. I love his stuff. I think Stroman will be a bust.
  6. Ellipses are fine if three dots are used. The rest you mention annoy the s*** out of me, too. Especially the space before punctuation ********. I also hate when people put dollar signs after the amount, are we European? 100$ to the man who stops everyone in Canada from doing that.
  7. I really wanted him to succeed. He had that one really good start. This is upsetting, but yeah, if he tires after 60 pitches *and* the opposition is batting like .400 off of him the third time around it's time for the 'pen. He'd be great after Dickey is pulled in the 4th or 5th. I guess Happ for now, hopefully Sanchez after June 1st.
  8. The infield defense has been totally fun to watch. Reyes made a strong throw to 1B from the hole yesterday. It was almost like he was saying, he I can play like that, too. Both EE and Lind at 1B have played well, too. They are digging out throw after throw. It seems every game Lawrie makes an incredible play, deals a strong thrown into the dirt that E5 will dig out. Very fun.
  9. Dickey seems to start very strong, looking like he'll through a CG 7-hitter. Then, after a walk or two he ALWAYS gives up a dinger. Never just a single. He's been in inconsistent, but he's been unlucky, too.
  10. I agree, but why not start him and see if it's effective, if not pull him and through a long man in. Why can't he start Friday in Cleveland if he's yanked early if the environment proved too much?
  11. The function is gone, so I will personally 'thank you' for this post - my credo pretty much
  12. Man, I hope. But Dickey shouldn't be comfortable tomorrow in the polar vortex. I see him getting rocked really, really badly. Like 8 runs in 2 innings badly. The Twins starter has horrible stats, but I dunno. I think, 2 out of three.
  13. I would have QOed him for sure, but man, I'm glad the Jays didn't now. It's weird, and SSS, but so many of the FA trade prospect pitchers tied to the Jays during the offseason haven't worked out. Santana the glaring exception. And I guess Tanaka. But JJ, Ubaldo, etc., are sucking. Anderson from the A's, is on the DL. Lincecum, who way back before he re-signed seemed like a fit, has sucked. The Twins signed a bunch of middling SP, and they are sucking. So far standing pat has sort of worked.
  14. A few weeks ago when his name was mentioned in baseball rumours, I took a gander at his stats, including WAR, on fangraphs. He's terrible.
  15. I keep thinking that, too. It's like the Jays had a virus for a couple year, injury bug, and we've recovered and are going strong but other clubs are just now going through it. It's a nice change. Hey, on a positive note, isn't the Jays defence looking stellar? I mean, what a bunch of great plays over the last couple of weeks. A complete 180 from last year. Even Izzy us making plays, although that s***** tag try yesterday made me cringe.
  16. Don't most ball players crest, stat-wise on offence around 30-31? Or is it a little younger. He's just 24. I think some gaudy stats are ahead of him. For me, he just continues to dazzle on defence, and his attitude when he strikes out, etc., has been mitigated. I think hitting 20 HR, and batting .280 consistently is very doable. I suspect he'll have a couple of halcyon years where he's AS material, but mostly pretty solid. It's really nice to have a solid Canadian on the team.
  17. I love the Natural and For Love of the Game. I really enjoyed Trouble with with Curve recently. When I was a youngster I laughed my ass off during Bull Durham. What was that Tom Sellick in Japan movie? That's my dad's fave. I liked it, too.
  18. The Dan Johnson? The guy in our system? Also, how do you remember that stuff so well? I barely remember what I had for lunch.
  19. This was actually the one move I didn't hate this offseason. Easy to say, since it was pretty much A's only move I guess.
  20. Was that 2011 when he really had some great starts? I've seen him sharp before, but today sort of stands out. But 17 K's is amazing. Was that a CG? I guess I was more excited to see 98 mph several times. Shows me his arm is just fine and he's finally thrown enough pitches to have that arm strength.
  21. I forgot about Izturis. I hated him before this season, and wanted him DFAed. But he's playing well. Hitting VERY well, and made a nifty play tonight in the INF. I guess I'll put away my torch and pitchfork for a while.
  22. I just watched the game on MLB.TV - wow, I'm not sure I've even seen Morrow dominate like that the first 3-4 innings. That slider was Santos filthy. And, he hit 98 mph many, many times. Maybe he will be solid this year. Great outing...truly inspiring. I'm not sure who posted it, but I will second the Navarro love. The guy can hit, plays hard, is fun in that Kawasaki way, and I get the impression the pitchers really like him. What's he making, $4M? Good deal.
  23. I know! It's a frustrating as hell. Plus, I really like Kratz as a backup. If Thole has options, and I think he may have one or two left, get him out of dodge. I don't get it. At least in AAA he'd have more bats and be more ready.
  24. I love Joe Maddon, and I think he's some sort of wizard, coaxing the most out of everyone. Man, he would be soooooo awesome as the Jays skip. But the team I think will surprise everyone is the Yanks. They are picked 4th or last (when we aren't), by most, but I suspect they will be 1st or 2nd all season long. Don't be surprised if they sign Drew to a 1-year deal after today either. I'm excited about today's game, though, soooo happy Dickey gets to start in a park where he's been close to stellar. Will it be Kratz or Thole today?
