  1. This is true. If your team is owned by a Dolan, you're screwed.
  2. I'd like to know this too. The overwhelming majority of Cleveland fans on their message board and Twitter are celebrating Shapiro's exit - if he was really the genius this board is portraying him as, I doubt this would be the case. Haven't the Indians sucked royally at drafting since they hired Shapiro?
  3. Can't believe Wilner was actually crying about fans throwing their hats on the field... that was awesome!
  4. The win streak was fun, but tonight proves that you can stack this roster with any amount of talent and this franchise is still going nowhere as long as Gibbons is manager. I doubt we'll be seeing first place again this year, and the thought of Gibbons "managing" the wildcard game is horrifying. The worst part is that simply making the playoffs will be enough to keep his job intact.
  5. There are no excuses left anymore. AA finally pulled his head out of his ass and cobbled together a good team and this career loser of a manager is still finding ways to blow games. That being said, AA is not totally off the hook here: I wasn't crazy about wasting assets on a relief pitcher when bullpens are the flukiest part of baseball, and Lowe hasn't exactly proven my gut feeling wrong yet.
  6. On one hand, they're right about AA "not doing s*** for five years." On the other hand, Peter Angelos is still their owner, and they haven't done s*** in 32 years. We've won a World Series more recently than they have. They wasted all but one season of Cal Ripken's career.
  7. I'm glad that it finally dawned on AA that pitching is an important part of a baseball team - only took six years for him to realize that. If we don't have a deep playoff run or at least get Price re-signed, though, trading Norris is going to look really bad.
  8. Not unless I know I'll be able to get a starting pitcher by the deadline. Knowing AA's tendency to halfass everything, I'd say there's a pretty good chance we don't. Even then, while our offense looks sick on paper with Tulo, his injury history + turf worries me.
  9. Why? It's not like they'd have any reason to fire Silverman.
  10. Yeah, it'd suck to have playoff appearances in recent memory like the Orioles or even a couple World Series appearances like the Tigers. It's waaaaay better to miss the playoffs for 21 straight years, soon to be 22.
  11. This is a lame excuse. Dan Jennings works for Loria. Sandy Alderson works for the Wilpons. They both still fleeced us.
  12. I said "almost." And we have not made the playoffs once under AA. He's spent ungodly amounts of money, made a huge trades and signings, and it hasn't amounted to anything. It's not "bad luck," he just sucks at his job.
  13. No it isn't. A pitcher has little if any control over their win/loss record. The GM has almost total control over the team's win/loss record. If a pitcher has a losing record, it could be that they just suck at pitching in the major leagues, but it's equally possible that they're not getting enough run support and/or defensive help. If a team has a losing record, the GM failed to put together a roster that is conducive to winning.
  14. It's funny how Toronto was one of the most attractive cities when the Jays had competent management, were making the playoffs and winning championships. "Nobody wants to play in Toronto" is a lame excuse pushed by ownership and the front office to justify mediocrity, mismanagement and (at times) penny-pinching. And who put together this flawed roster? Rogers is shelling out upwards of $122 million for an under .500 fourth-place team in baseball's weakest division. Jose f***ing Reyes is making $22 million this year. This is not the time to be using the "big contract" excuse.
  15. How that many people actually approve the job AA is doing is beyond me. Unless you enjoy mediocre win/loss records, having the same gaping holes on our roster go unaddressed every year, and the continuation of our no-playoffs streak, there's nothing to be happy about. I liked the Donaldson and Martin moves as much as anyone, but the results show that it wasn't nearly enough, and all of his other high-profile moves besides dumping Wells have been a disaster. The Napoli trade was bad, the Marlins trade was awful, the Mets trade was a catastrophe of "Lee/Sizemore/Phillips for a one-year Bartolo Colon rental" proportions.
  16. We're lucky to be in the worst division in baseball. Any other division, we'd be like 13.5 games down.
  17. Rogers doesn't have playoff aspirations. They have "selling tickets and merchandise to casual fans" aspirations. Offense sells, pitching doesn't.
  18. Gonna be real embarrassing when this garbage Red Sox team backs their way into a wildcard spot while our drought continues.
  19. It's time to fire AA before he can do any more damage to the roster first.
  20. He needs to be fired first. Let someone competent find pitching help for this team.
  21. The only "runs" this team will be having is if they eat Taco Bell for dinner. And I say that as someone who was against hiring Gibbons again in the first place and have wanted him gone since minute one. It's just that AA and Beeston also need to go for assembling such a horseshit team.
  22. So because some fans actually liked that awful trade at the time, that means it's somehow not demonstrably awful?
