  1. Lol. And they lived happily ever after?
  2. With the 3 guys hitting behind the lead off hitter we have this year, the risk of stealing with Pillar's speed negates the possible upside.
  3. Putting someone in that spot doesn't miraculously infuse them with improved pitch selection. This skill is something that doesn't necessarily ever improve. Which is why Pillar's primary value is always going to come from his D. I don't care that much about who hits LO...but no thanks on Pillar at this point with what we have seen in his career.
  4. One of the most discussed and yet least important decisions Gibby will make this coming season. I'd be happy with Tulo. Once we see more of Travis he might fit the bill. I'd like it to be Jose with his OBP but not happening.
  5. Edwin has 1o/5. Has an auto veto regardless. Sadly I think your numbers aren't too far off.
  6. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/mlb/all-30-mlb-teams-starting-rotations-ranked/ar-BBoGzHy?ocid=spartandhp#page=1 Jays ranked 20th.
  7. And that was with a 50 game suspension thrown in wasn't it.
  8. I forgot we got a QO pick out of that too. I didn't expect it after his first year in TOR. When Saunders went down and we bumped Pompey back after only 20 games we did have a gaping chasm in LF though. Thankfully Pillar stepped up (I still cant believe he had a WAR over 4) and gibby cobbled it together until Revere came over. Even with all that, Melky still isn't worth what ChiSox paid him.
  9. Yes, cant really call him out on that first season with that going on in his back. 2.5 WAR in his 2nd season for us for 8mm was good value. I'm so glad he wasn't resigned.

Massive....Manning throws up some points here and they got it.
  12. We had that thread poll on most annoying sports reporters and Davis ran away with it. Not one of I think about 100 posters picked Davidi. That was telling. I think he is pretty solid.
  13. After the Upton, Gordon and Davis terms I'm a bit surprised at this with him being only 30. But the quid pro quo is the opt out. If he kills it in 2016, he gets to test the market again...one that may include Edwin and Jose. The AAV should put to rest any notion some have that Edwin and/or Jose are getting any less than $20mm AAV.
  14. Sorry man.....that makes zero sense. Business doesn't work that way. "Hey, you like the popcorn in TOR...we smash the ball...and its a great scooter town so how about 5 years with a $20mm AAV cause that's all Rogers will give us to pay you?"
  15. Sorry. Cant agree with this. A pyrrhic offer is just an insult to the fans and to the player. It does nothing for "PR". Fans who wanted Price back don't understand the market and they don't understand the napkin math we all do on the Jays payroll. Most fans, for example, don't connect a Price signing to Jose and Edwin becoming FAs this off season or how much more they will have to pay JD through arb....or that Martin's deal is back end loaded. And they shouldn't have too. They are just casual fans and that's ok. 90% of the posters on this Board know more about the business of baseball than 90% of the Jays fans I'd guess. Most markets are the same with some notable exceptions. Agree with Glory ^. If the Jays build a consistent truly competitive club that is in races and makes the playoffs on a regular basis the fans across the country will forget all about Price,Kawawhatever and AA complaints.
  16. Ya. I think so. I thought it about it after my tourettes like response. Still don't understand how some non trolls think they would sign for 18mm AAV ^ or under given the deals we are seeing. Arms and premium (ish) bats are getting paid big money routinely. Prospects of an NL DH will only drive up the value of a guy like EE and an aging OF like Jose.
  17. Even though they are older than recent big signings, when you look at their production juxtaposed against the AAV and term market, I don't know how some can under value our own talent so much? If these are the numbers....get the f***ing pen!
  18. Has there ever been a less valuable Jay given so much fanfare? John MacDonald maybe? He is an amusing guy, but its been so overdone. Wish him well. Chicago is just ripe for bush parties.
  19. That might be the case but I wouldn't read too much into that. Its could be posturing and Shapiro postured back to not be pushed by the Agent's timetable. Money talks at any point. Edwin signed the last extension, heading into free agency, during the season. Granted he is more established now as a premier bat. Its going to be interesting.
  20. A lot can happen in 2016 and next off season that could influence this, but we have kicking this around on the board for a long time already. I thought it might be interesting to look back once we see what actually happens. If you have a guess at where they will end up, take a shot. The Upton, Davis, Cespedes, Gordon deals will provide some comparables. My prediction: Edwin - 4/84 - Jays (Signs a somewhat team friendly deal to stay in Toronto on what might be his last deal) Jose - 5/110 - Not with Jays (Jose is all business - knows its his last deal and takes the maximum term/amount he can get) I don't blame them or the Jays if neither end up staying and the Jays get a couple of picks. Great players, but its a business.
  21. Fair comment. Those looking only at what we gave up is glass half empty. What would JD bring back in prospects as an asset if we moved him with 3 more seasons of control, subject only to arb? (not that we should!)
  22. hmmm....Jose signed his in the off season after his break out 2010. Its interesting to look back. http://m.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article/16659082/ Maybe on Edwin. I just don't see it as a huge solid. As a poor D player he was of limited use to some teams hurting his value. And there would have been fears he reverted back to old EE (or was on PEDs). I still think it was a ballsy and fair deal with risks on both sides at the time. Its become a steal in hindsight. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/34857644/ Kind of funny Ricky Romero was featured in the press conference announcing the Edwin ext. There was one deal that didn't work out
  23. Not sure how you come up with that on Edwin. He had a WAR of .1 -2008 1.7 - 2009 .7 - 2010 Then in 2011 he broke out with a 150 wRC+. He had one big season after an up and down career with poor D, where he had been DFA'ed. Everyone passed save for one team who showed a bit of interest. He talks about that as does AA in the Brunt piece on him. Based on 2012 AA signed him to a 3 year deal in 2012. Maybe he left $ on the table but there was a risk he was a one hit wonder with no position.
  24. Lots one can criticize AA for but you have mentioned some wins. I also give him credit for having the balls to get 6 years of Jose and 4 of Edwin on undermarket deals. They seem like no brainers now but at the time the deals were done there was a fair amount of risk for the Jays that their breakthrough seasons were a mirage.
  25. Part of the reason the napkin math on resigning Edwin and Jose for 2017 is so tough. I think we have 8 guys at league min on so. But if Hutch can put together a solid 2016 he and others gonna get paid in arb. for 2017. And we will need to replace Cecil. Oh well....Rogers and Shapiro's job to wade through it.
