  1. Kirk has been completely useless at the plate this season. More of a reminder that Spring Training doesn’t mean anything.
  2. Masterful AB against Campbell. He’s been featuring the fastball heavily for like 3 straight innings, young rookie, so he throws all offspeeds, gets two whiffs on the splitter, before pumping fastballs right back in the same low spots. Destroyed.
  3. Jesus, way to give Gausman a breather boys.
  4. Gausman’s fastball has been phenomenal tonight. I actually think he’s counteracting the strategy of hitters sitting on the splitter so he’s blowing them away with fastballs high and low.
  5. He’s old and has an injury history. Just a scheduled day off.
  6. Apparently Steven Matz is now a reliever for the Cardinals. He officially can no longer strike anyone out, on the last year of his 4/44 deal that Pete Walker got for him. In Matz' defense - and Pete Walker's too, for bringing him back to life - he was decent in '22 and '23 but has dealt with a myriad of injuries.
  7. I wonder if Berroa would be an option. Switch hitter, although I have no idea if he's any good against lefties, presumably a better baserunner than Lukes based on his AAA steal totals, can play CF in a pinch (although wouldn't be necessary with Straw around) and presumably decent in the corners. It just feels like Lukes would have literally zero utility, whereas someone like Berroa could be used more strategically across multiple scenarios.
  8. I think Varsho being back means Lukes might be s*** out of luck once more. Hard to justify multiple 4th OF types, Straw is a much better defender and baserunner, and his right handedness makes him somewhat more playable against lefties. I don't even know who Lukes pinch hits for if everyone is healthy and Schneider is optioned. Ernie perhaps, but if he's starting then one of Wagner/Roden is on the bench and you'd rather them hitting in that spot over Lukes any time. And the obvious PR/defensive replacement sub in the OF is Straw every single time.
  9. Aside from the excellent writeups, the multitude of videos taken by our own contributors add an amazing amount of depth and legitimacy to these. Fantastic job by all involved.
  10. Lucas handily outdueled Crochet and his $170M deal, wow. Someone tell me again why I should be upset that we let go of Ryan Yarbrough for a guy like this?
  11. Well yeah of course, he has a .435 BABIP. His xWOBA was .363 coming into this game before the added homerun, so it hasn't all been a fluke. They could live with him being a masher that strikes out a bunch as long as he's doing damage. A decent TTO Tork is on the table as a likely outcome. Not sure how long batted ball data takes to stabilize, but he's been pulling the ball way more, 60% thus far.
  12. My god that 5-9. At least I believe enough in Clement to do something silly that works with his contact ability, but I don't think any of us would be surprised if the rest of the guys can't make contact against Crochet. First day off for Gimenez.
  13. But the innings he's eating up! Think about the stability that his 83 mph floaters and vetrin presents are providing to the Yankees bullpen.
  14. @Brock Beauchamp Not a huge deal, but a few articles keep appearing on the unreads section that I can't get rid of despite clicking into them multiple times. This also brings me back to a previous suggestion of adding a "Mark Read" or similar button on the items in this section. Since I understand merging the articles and the threads created from them might be a difficult case to handle, I figure this might be an easier implementation on your end.
  15. I mean, Wagner has all of 3 PAs against LHP this season, unless you're drawing back from 2024 in which he did indeed struggle over a SSS (22 PAs). I mostly just want to see if there's anything in there for these guys to be more than platoon bats, not that there's anything wrong with playing the strong side of the platoon. Maybe Crochet isn't exactly the guy you test this theory on, however.
  16. At this point I kind of just hope it's Straw and one of Wagner/Roden is in the lineup. Schneider has been brutal to watch, consistently overmatched by the fastball. The pitchers know it, he knows it, still can't do anything about it.
  17. Ended up being Berrios who saved the season.
  18. Ernie has some smooth hands over at the hot corner.
  19. Great win, brutal baserunning decisions aside.
  20. Replay confirmed Springer was hustling, just a dumb mistake from Wagner.
  21. I think the home plate ump made the right call. Another inexcusable baserunning mistake.
  22. Another moronic baserunning decision, god damn Willy Wags what are you doing there kid?
  23. Kirk trying to activate our trap card in Tyler Heineman off the bench.
  24. Let's get that run back and let Hoffman finish the job.
  25. Bro just took a 3-2 fastball down the pipe.
