  1. Gimenez is magical, but yet another strong throw from Heineman.
  2. Straw and Heineman getting it done lol
  3. This is the battle of grunting starters who swear any time they miss their spot.
  4. The homeplate ump has been dogshit. Seems like that Gimenez K bounced in the dirt.
  5. I've seen Lukes turn his back on any pitch near him, that's a guy that's willing to take one for the team.
  6. Two broken bat singles from the Red Sox thus far.
  7. Yeah at this point I've given up hope in wanting a homerun, at least until it warms up. Let's get some good sequencing going boys.
  8. He's getting some silly swings on it right now. Best case scenario has been these weak pop ups. Helps when you have like 6 pitches to work from.
  9. That was a perfect 1-2 pitch, ump?
  10. Campbell was completely in the path of Heineman's throw.
  11. Ironically the A's spent more on their rotation this offseason between Severino and trading for Springs.
  12. The Rays are getting s*** on. GMS field is like Yankee Stadium with the warm Florida weather so it's an absolute bandbox, so many cheap HRs to the corners.
  13. I've resigned myself to the fact that unless the temperature goes above 18 degrees these guys might just struggle for a little bit. At least they're taking their walks in the meantime, but I think we just gotta deal with the shrinkage while the playing conditions are as they've been over the past week. Vlad has a .370 OBP so things could be worse.
  14. Welcome to the board! I tend to agree with this, it seemed like yesterday he was playing off the fact that hitters were sitting splitter every time and just blowing them away with fastballs repeatedly. Notably, he was featuring the low fastball often, which basically makes it impossible for hitters to swing at it or make good contact if they're expecting splitter. The splitter wasn't exactly a show me pitch, but because he tends to throw it low and out of the zone there were lots of foul balls and weak contact induced from it whenever they would go after it.
  15. Kirk has been completely useless at the plate this season. More of a reminder that Spring Training doesn’t mean anything.
  16. Masterful AB against Campbell. He’s been featuring the fastball heavily for like 3 straight innings, young rookie, so he throws all offspeeds, gets two whiffs on the splitter, before pumping fastballs right back in the same low spots. Destroyed.
  17. Jesus, way to give Gausman a breather boys.
  18. Gausman’s fastball has been phenomenal tonight. I actually think he’s counteracting the strategy of hitters sitting on the splitter so he’s blowing them away with fastballs high and low.
  19. He’s old and has an injury history. Just a scheduled day off.
  20. Apparently Steven Matz is now a reliever for the Cardinals. He officially can no longer strike anyone out, on the last year of his 4/44 deal that Pete Walker got for him. In Matz' defense - and Pete Walker's too, for bringing him back to life - he was decent in '22 and '23 but has dealt with a myriad of injuries.
  21. I wonder if Berroa would be an option. Switch hitter, although I have no idea if he's any good against lefties, presumably a better baserunner than Lukes based on his AAA steal totals, can play CF in a pinch (although wouldn't be necessary with Straw around) and presumably decent in the corners. It just feels like Lukes would have literally zero utility, whereas someone like Berroa could be used more strategically across multiple scenarios.
  22. I think Varsho being back means Lukes might be s*** out of luck once more. Hard to justify multiple 4th OF types, Straw is a much better defender and baserunner, and his right handedness makes him somewhat more playable against lefties. I don't even know who Lukes pinch hits for if everyone is healthy and Schneider is optioned. Ernie perhaps, but if he's starting then one of Wagner/Roden is on the bench and you'd rather them hitting in that spot over Lukes any time. And the obvious PR/defensive replacement sub in the OF is Straw every single time.
  23. Aside from the excellent writeups, the multitude of videos taken by our own contributors add an amazing amount of depth and legitimacy to these. Fantastic job by all involved.
  24. Lucas handily outdueled Crochet and his $170M deal, wow. Someone tell me again why I should be upset that we let go of Ryan Yarbrough for a guy like this?
