  1. This is an absurd argument because the MLB is filled with Afro Caribbeans that genetically are very similar if not practically identical to African Americans. It is almost entirely a socio economic thing along with the popularity of each sport, if African Americans are drifting more towards basketball and football the reason has far more to do with accessibility, representation (/promotion of the sport) and economic means than "the requisitory athletic predispositions in baseball".
  2. IMO Bichette to 3B and Biggio stays at 2nd/in a Zobrist esque utility capacity. Bichette's arm is clearly better than Biggio's from the eye test.
  3. They have a ton of money and one of the top executives in the league. You go all in on Bauer, Springer + other free agents and suddenly you're competitive for the one of the last wildcard positions. They also have a lot of money coming off the books following the 2021 season in Brandon Crawford, Posey (has 2022 club option), Brandon Belt and Johnny Cueto (2022 club option). Why wait for the 2021 free agency class if you can pick up some of the elite talent in this one could be the thinking here. They have some players with sneaky upside in Yas, Alex Dickerson and Mauricio Dubon and their top positional player prospect Joey Bart is close to being MLB ready.
  4. He asked which of those do we figure would be available in trade. I'm not upset at all lol and it's weird you would think I am, you seem upset that I'm calling you out on what I find to be a dumb suggestion.
  5. Because they could? In theory their OF was Yelich, Cain and Avisail Garcia coming off a decent year with the Rays. They obviously didn't think much of Grisham or believed he would be this good and liked Urias more to improve their infield. The A's seemingly love Laureano and they have no one to replace him with. As a competitive team they'd likely prefer back MLB or near-MLB ready pieces, with their weakest positions being 2B, SS and SP. How exactly are we going to address that need? Are we giving them back an outfielder who can't/shouldn't be playing CF for their CF?
  6. Ortiz did drop some weight late into his career and he continued to rake. Fielder's weight arguably contributed to a premature end to his career.
  7. His batted ball profile would seem to indicate the added weight definitely hasn't helped, if not hindered his hitting mechanics (this is probably simplistic I won't disagree). Still though like I've said before I don't care that much that Vlad is getting into better shape so he can become a below average defender at third or first and a slightly better baserunner, but god damnit the man needs to fix his launch angle so that he can finally break out into the guy he was always supposed to be offensively. If losing the gut allows him to do that then go right ahead, I certainly won't get upset at an athlete for improving their physique.
  8. Elite hand eye coordination and hitting mechanics? I don't think you're giving Altuve enough credit on the strength side of things, he needs to generate a lot of force with his frame to be able to send one 400+ feet. Vlad can send a ball 400 feet fresh out of bed, while obviously he shouldn't just be losing a ton of weight without doing strength exercises so that he's not losing a lot of muscle, it's not like suddenly him being 50 pounds lighter will stop him from crushing the baseball - ideally not into the ground.
  9. Why would the A's give up Ramon Laureano?
  10. Yes. I think the reports of him losing 30+ pounds are since the beginning of ST 2.0, and he's lost something like 10-15 lbs this offseason already. (allegedly)
  11. Yeah Vlad honestly just needs to put all of his efforts into improving his launch angle to become the monster hitter he has the ability to be. Hopefully being in better shape allows that but I have no confidence in him being anywhere close to an average defender at any position.
  12. In theory you could platoon him with our corner OF but Teoscar doesn't really have large platoon splits (probably not stabilized but meh) and Gurriel possibly does but both of them might be good enough hitters regardless and the defense won't be worse so I don't see a great reason to add someone like him when our biggest need (in the OF) is an upgrade at CF and Joc won't provide that.
  13. Charlie Montoyo isn't even the worst AL manager of the year finalist. The other guy doesn't even have a job!
  14. Could the reason for that be that Springer is a year younger and better at everything than LeMahieu?
  15. The Dodgers already have their own Lindor situation in Corey Seager.
  16. Does Ryu not exist? Was that not them putting their money where their mouth is?
  17. For comparison and reference, noted cheater George Springer has fairly identical home/away splits, and he actually has generally performed slightly better on the road than at home.
  18. No one seems to be talking about the elephant in the room behind how much DJLM benefited from Yankee Stadium. His home/away splits are gigantic, he's god in Yankee Stadium and DJ LeSlapHitter everywhere else. Now obviously he's no stranger to extreme home/away splits being a lifelong Coors guy before this, but it should really be taken into account how much slapping balls into the short porch boosted his offensive production, and the Rogers Centre/Sahlen/Dunedin (in case 2021 season is not played north of the border) do not feature a cheaty short porch that the team can build an offense around. His HR over the last two seasons: Home - 27 Away - 9
  19. I mean, O'Day is 38 and has 40 combined innings the last 3 seasons (though he was healthy for this one). I'm not sure that's even an egregious decision even in a pre-pandemic market under the new 3 batter minimum rules. I'd certainly take him at that price though don't get me wrong lol, but the Braves are probably trying to cut a few million here and there to be able to bring in high level contributors/keep around a guy like Marcell Ozuna.
  20. It's not even that he's likely to be anti-analytics and the typical "go with your gut" old school mentality. He's also maybe even more likely to be anti flair and showboating, which is a serious shame for a team whose appeal is boosted by the fact that their players seem to have a lot of fun on the field and they bring excitement through their antics.
  21. Nothing like hiring an old man with old-man mentality to manage a young up and coming team full of flair. This looks like a move that came from the very top, pretty disgusting hire honestly.
  22. Which is funny because while May has the more tantalizing stuff and is hilarious to watch his attitude on the mound, Jansen has been the objectively better pitcher this postseason.
  23. Kershaw has for a while now always had his own personal catcher. Pretty sure Barnes has been his for some time since he's their best defensive catcher.
  24. Except Jeter was a significantly worse fielder at his position that LGJ is at his lol.
