  1. Is the prospects promotion cutoff the same as before? 500 PA for hitters and 50 pitcher events?
  2. You really gotta commend the job done by Rachel Luba. Her (and her team) and Bauer killed this free agency process.
  3. Tbh I don't feel bad at all for Mets fans. Good for them to have a rich owner that isn't the Wilpons I guess but they were on their "Uncle Steve" ******** all offseason so it's fun to see them get clowned on all the big FAs.
  4. Keep in mind for a lot of players it's not just the financial security, but the stability of knowing that this will be your home for the next 5+ years. If you're a family man, knowing that you don't have to move your kids around every 1-2 years has to be a strong consideration for these guys. The mercenary approach to free agency might be good for Bauer and free agency as a whole - as it sets a precedent for value on short term deals for good players - but I have to imagine it's not something most players would choose even knowing that they might get the highest AAV out of it as opposed to signing a long-term, 6-7+ year contract. It's why no-trade clauses exist in the first place and why the top tier players often demand them.
  5. I think his plan is that because he's not getting the big payday like he was expecting to get. No one was offering 5/150 or anything nearly as ridiculous so 1 year deals with some security it is while he proves that he's really an elite pitcher.
  6. If he got an ST invite the minor league deal is kind of implied if not downright assumed. You think the Jays management just told him "hey Francisco, feel free to come on down to Dunedin and hang out with the boys"? Of course he signed a minor league deal. He's a NRI to ST, there's literally no other contract he could have signed for this to be the case.
  7. You literally already talked about this lol.
  8. It's both most likely.
  9. I wouldn't read too much into Nightengale's tweet past the actual signing lol. He's the same guy that tweeted this (later deleted) [Nightengale] The #Whitesox $3 million signing of Carlos Rodon, their former closer, gives Tony La Russa tremendous options on days Liam Hendriks needs a rest while also limiting his innings He then tried to save face by tweeting this instead? He has no idea what he's talking about.
  10. Definitely. But why so consistently? How does he own a career BABIP of .274 over 400 IP, is he sacrificing a different animal every day before a game? Is it the same species every time?
  11. Colome is a pretty fascinating pitcher in that he's beat his DIPS his entire career - albeit in a smaller sample than necessary to stabilize since he's a reliever - and especially so the last two seasons, despite not inducing an extreme amount of groundballs (he's pretty much average at that), or an extreme amount of infield flies (an average pitcher like Borucki has induced more) and while he's had some success missing barrels for the most part, it's nothing special and his induced EV and hard hit % have consistently ranked between bad and awful.
  12. JDM was also a far better hitter with a much longer track of success for what it's worth. Ozuna has one excellent season in 2017 and one monster season in a shortened 2020. JDM was basically averaging Ozuna's best two seasons (offensively of course) the 4 seasons prior to signing his deal. I agree that I don't understand where Ozuna's DH only reputation came from, he was an average or better defender as late as 2019 by most metrics. I guess the eye test says he's awful because he looks goofy out there and has plays like this on his lowlight reel?
  13. Who? The child predator?
  14. I'm pretty sure Kirk will start in AAA regardless, I'd imagine the aim if we were actually interested would be to have him and Jansen split time. Of course, a trade of Jansen for a starter cannot be discounted in this scenario.
  15. Doolittle's fastball velo tanked last season. Yates was also the best reliever in baseball the season prior. We paid accordingly and so did the Reds. They are currently not in the same ballpark in terms of perceived value around the league.
  16. Doolittle is done. Yates may be done, but is much more likely to be good.
  17. A normal kid his age isn't an above average major league hitter lol.
  18. When Bo was Vlad's age while the latter has been in the MLB, the former was putting up decent-not-great numbers in AA and AAA with a 50 game cup of coffee in the MLB.
  19. Dude, Vlad hasn't even turned 22. His first two seasons have been at ages 20 and 21, following a complete and utter annihilation of the minor leagues at the ages that. Throughout the entirety of his career, most "good" prospects would either still be in college or high school, or getting what might be considered an aggressive promotion to A+/AA. He projects highly because the kind of guys that are above average hitters at 20 and 21 with good K and BB rates and decent power tend to go on to be exceptional hitters. This is not to mention that what he did in the minors and at the age that he did it is basically a Hall of Fame level talent. For as much as the projections don't like Teoscar as much as we might, what do you expect? The entirety of his breakout came in a 50 game sample with an elevated BABIP and worse BB rate. 2020 was a small sample size, guys put up a great 2-3 months all the time and then go back to being their usual self. I hope Teoscar builds on his offensive breakout, but the truth is the most likely scenario is he's exactly who he's been his whole career, maybe a slight upgrade on that.
  20. So is every Coors guy's. It's so hard to measure the Coors effect on a player who's never played away from there before. We never saw if someone like Todd Helton could get it done elsewhere. Dexter Fowler did well post Coors. Tulo was already broken, CarGo was already washed. Matt Holliday did great. Someone like Chris Iannetta continued being the same guy. I think there's good reason to believe Story is a legitimately excellent player and very capable hitter.
  21. Because people want to see one of the best players of all time sniff the postseason? It's pathetic the extent to which the Angels have squandered away Trout's prime despite their main flaw being apparent and unaddressed since he first started for them.
  22. Awful transaction for the Angels, the Orioles did very well here.
  23. Garrett Richards has already been signed by the Red Sox.
  24. Classic Angels move. Could've probably bought Odorizzi and have some more stability/upside but hoping that 33 year old injury prone Alex Cobb bounces back is the way to go instead.
  25. I honestly think it's worse if he doesn't opt out. That means the Rockies were willing to help the Cards load the "burden" of the deal and in the process they didn't even increase the value of the return? Usually when you eat salary it's so that the pieces you're getting back are worth something. Even if the deal becomes an albatross the idiot Rockies will still brunt a portion of that, and they're paying as if it already is and not that Arenado could get back to his 5-6 WAR star level immediately for at least half of that. Even if Arenado was a rental this in an all-time terrible return IMO. The Texas Rangers traded one year of Lance Lynn for Dane Dunning+. Dane Dunning alone is worth more than everything the Rockies are receiving here.
