  1. Vlad making a routine first at play. Just hang up the banner right now.
  2. There's a blizzard going on in the Cleveland game.
  3. Derek Jeter should honestly be forced to forfeit his shares with the Marlins after this.
  4. Being a first rounder will get you a lot of rope, regardless of how awful you are. If he was a 13th rounder we probably wouldn't know who he was.
  5. That was Zeuch's first swinging strike of the game. That's just not gonna cut it man.
  6. Big difference between adjusting your swing when it's good Major League pitchers tunneling three+ plus pitches that all look identical with crazy movement and TJ Zeuch throwing batting practice sinkers and a curve that hangs in the middle of the plate. Ask these hitters to do this with Ryu on the mound and you'll see vastly different results.
  7. The hitter can, to a certain extent, control in what general direction the ball is going - pull side, opposite field, up the middleish - but certainly not the tiny gaps in between fielders. That's why the shifts are in place, the hitters will have a tendency to spray the ball in a certain direction but given a hard enough hit and a fair deal of luck, a groundball can still get by or make it a difficult enough play for the fielder that a hit becomes possible.
  8. For anyone wondering what the issue with not striking anyone out and giving up a ton of groundballs, here you have it. Sometimes the luck goes your way and sometimes it doesn't.
  9. He averaged 92 as a starter, touching 94 or 95 sometimes like Abom said. It's very common for pitchers who are starters to add velocity once they start coming out of the bullpen since you can throw every pitch at max effort.
  10. Josh Palacios quite literally looks like Trent Grisham at the plate. Lefty, no batting gloves, similar stance, face protection guard.
  11. Wow they're really using Ben Wagner as the sideline reporter. Pathetic from Rogers. He would be our best broadcaster in the stadium right now lol.
  12. That swing almost looked like it would be a pop up to the second baseman on first look, Teo has crazy power.
  13. Man, Palacios and Warmoth are having excellent springs. I wonder what are the odds that Warmoth makes the team out of ST as the utility man. Has he played the infield at all? Gotta think we definitely see Palacios at some point this season, maybe not right away, if an injury occurs in the outfield.
  14. Vladdy was touted as a generational hitting prospect though. He's also a year younger than Vaughn lmao and entering his third season of MLB baseball. Vlad was putting up all-time great comparable minor league performances while Vaughn was in his senior year of high school.
  15. It's not good business for teams to disclose player physicals like in Paxton and Kluber's case. It's entirely possible Paxton failed one of his physicals and this is why he signed back with the Mariners for such a small amount, but no team is going to come out and say that, certainly not the Mariners, while the player is currently healthy. In Yates' scenario maybe someone disclosed/leaked this info knowing that he was going to miss the season anyway as damage control, not that anyone should be outraged that a relatively cheap high risk, high reward signing went into one of the expected buckets.
  16. Fair deal. I think I like it more for McCullers' side given his previous durability concerns. $85M guaranteed when he's probably one more injury away from potentially not cracking $20M in career earnings is a deal he should take every time. On the other hand, I'm sure the Astros will gladly live with him topping out at 125-150 very good innings a season at $17M per as long as he's healthy for the playoffs.
  17. I don't really get the ownage here. It's not like the statcast data is the only thing they're using according to Passan's tweet. So if your spin rate suddenly jumps up by 10% on all your pitches from one year to the next, like it did for Bauer, then that would raise a red flag. Otherwise they'll just use the other random sampling methods to find the foreign substances. I'm sure those using pine tar or other substances will simply learn to hide it better.
  18. Fangraphs added some nice quality-of-life features to their player stat pages. xStats are now available in the statcast portion, with xwOBA appearing in the default player dashboard for hitters, replacing avg EV (not sure if I love this but nice to have regardless). Importantly, and I can't believe this was only added just now, they've finally included player season ages in the main dashboard. Long overdue addition.
  19. I don't think there's any way we have $15M to spend, otherwise we would have signed or traded for some expensive one year contracts a lot earlier than this. We probably have at most like a $5-10M rainy day fund remaining which might include in-season/trade deadline acquisitions.
  20. Porcello for 1/5 time, get it done Ross.
  21. Rowdy is never seeing a lefty during the regular season.
  22. Jonathan Davis is nearly 29 and his options are starting to run out. If they like him he's not really the type of guy you keep down to continue getting "regular ABs".
  23. Bergen basically started pumping fastballs down the middle when s*** hit the fan and he struck everyone out.
