It's not good business for teams to disclose player physicals like in Paxton and Kluber's case. It's entirely possible Paxton failed one of his physicals and this is why he signed back with the Mariners for such a small amount, but no team is going to come out and say that, certainly not the Mariners, while the player is currently healthy. In Yates' scenario maybe someone disclosed/leaked this info knowing that he was going to miss the season anyway as damage control, not that anyone should be outraged that a relatively cheap high risk, high reward signing went into one of the expected buckets.
