  1. Edman is a switch hitter and is much better against lefties than RHP. 124 wRC+ career against them, obviously no Goldy though.
  2. It's only one batter, but Jesus Luzardo is throwing gas. Big year for him, and what could be another disastrous trade by the Oakland A's in giving up on him with 3 more years of control.
  3. At least Marmol had the excuse that Hicks is wild and Varsho is no slouch. The Cards had the worst hitter on their team, probably one of the worst in the league, who is so bad they had him bunt with a runner on second, with Yimi Garcia who has an excellent walk rate for his career. Pretty indefensible to have him face Arenado in that spot. Hated that call, hated even giving Tim Mayza the option to face Goldschmidt - yeah he failed at his job in getting there in the first place, but Swanson is a good pitcher with pitches that play well against the opposite handedness. At least he didn't double down on his mistakes and let KK hit away instead of bunting in the 9th inning. As previously mentioned, also surprised at the lack of running overall save for the one hit and run - which I didn't mind, Merrifield just whiffed - given the quality of baserunning on this team.
  4. Does Statcast factor in qualified hitters in their percentiles? They give Bo, Sal Perez roughly ~85th percentile, which would seem too high based on your calculations. Obviously qualified is a better measure since more PAs means more opportunities to achieve your “true” max EV.
  5. For context, Bichette hit a ball 112.4 mph last season as his hardest hit (not his career max), that was good for 85th percentile in 2022.
  6. Varsho’s 112.5 mph double in the first inning was the hardest hit ball of his career, and by quite a bit actually. Previous high was 110.9. That’s like 60 raw power at least I think? After seeing how good his ABs were this game, 6 WAR season incoming.
  7. No chance he just forgot, they literally had a mound visit and he’s standing on deck lol.
  8. Andrew f***ing Knizner on deck and you pitch to Arenado with a base open.
  9. To be fair, the pacing has been good. Lots of tense moments but the pitchers and hitters aren’t taking turns calling for time and 4 pickoffs every other guy that reaches base.
  10. I don’t think you give Jordan Hicks the opportunity to walk in the bases loaded, he’s too wild.
  11. Jordan Hicks blows, need to take advantage.
  12. Cimber did exactly what was asked of him, this should still be a tied game.
  13. Merrifield has to make contact there, that’s his whole thing.
  14. Why even give Mayza the option to face Goldschmidt, hated that decision as soon as it happened.
  15. Stellar first showing by Swanson, really wish he’d have finished the inning however.
  16. Huge to have Kiermaier on base to set up the top of the order.
  17. Pearson probably implodes a gives up a walk and a homer there. Nice job Pop.
  18. Vlad already has an 80 grade raw power hit this game, that single came off the bat at 115.5 mph, unfortunately on the ground
  19. Varsho’s first two contributions at the plate: great AB capped by a rocket at 112.5 mph for an RBI, solid liner at 106.6 mph to cash in a run, .680 xBA.
  20. They’ve got some good arms at the back of it with Gallegos and Helsley. Jordan Hicks throws extremely hard but mostly sucks, and they’ve got a mix of alright middle relief options, nothing crazy.
  21. Orlando Arcia just signed an extension today actually.
  22. Their usage isn’t that similar, Mikolas barely throws his changeup and his curve is a loopy spinner which he uses often. The slider is cutter ish. Berrios throws harder with lots of sinkers and slurves and barely ever throws an actual curve, mixes in his change a little more.
  23. Manoah is such a nightmare on the mound for hitters, this massive dude who will head hunt you one pitch and then throw an unhittable fastball on the outer black the next pitch.
