  1. I'd rather see them make a bad FA signing than a bad trade where the team not only loses some prospects/younger players but the player(s) brought in are no better than said prospect or replacement could be. Plus any money spent. I'm really nervous about even thinking about the team signing him. Seems like another NL pitcher who struggled until his walk year, give or take, who will bomb in the AL East especially in the Roger Center. They've had AJ Burnett, Joey Hamilton, JJ, RA Dickey. Some were injured so you can kind of blame that. If signed he might be better than he has been and could help out. Just get nervous when players like that are brought in.
  2. Blah. I figured it might have been posted already.
  3. http://www.rotoworld.com/stats/mlb/178/ricky-nolasco
  4. Doesn't Jeff Samardzija have a no-trade clause? At least that's what it says on Cot's and Rotoworld.
  5. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/4044/adam-lind via the Boston Globe. Of course he could be traded to dump $7 plus the rest of his options if someone with more pop/production could come along plus to bring in some needed parts. The part that's interesting is "some sentiment in the organization that he doesn't fit what the Blue Jays are trying to build in terms of attitude." Attitude? From what I've heard/read he has been on record as saying he doesn't like to take time to exercise and seems a bit lazy as far as an athlete would be, whether it's true or not, I don't know. But compared to some of the people on this team his attitude might be a problem and isn't what the team is looking for? Lawrie, JP? It would be nice to move him if they could get a decent return and get a better DH/Back up 1B since who knows if he'll go down again or regress like he had before.
  6. Not bad but I had flashbacks to Aaron Boone's incident playing basketball in the off-season years ago.
  7. What are they supposed to do? Overpay him (again) to be a 4th OF? His speed has helped win some games but is likely to want a multi year deal and a chance to start. He wouldn't get either here. He's had the chance to take a starting role with the Jays over the course of his tenure here and hasn't handled it well or else they wouldn't have gone after Melky in the offseason. They have Gose, who if not traded, could be a 4th OF for his speed. Pillar could be. They could sign someone to a cheaper rate to be a 4th OF with the same tools for less. His speed will be missed but other than that they can find someone for less than $2.5M. He's also 33. That speed will start to come down soon.
  8. If he does flip some relievers to get some help, good help, fine. The problem is if this is the kind of guy he's going to replace those relievers with it's going to cause a weakness there. If this is someone signed for organizational depth, minor league deal, someone to eat some innings during an overworked pen or injury, fine. If he replaces players with garbage it's going to hurt the team. With all the relievers and potential relievers, there isn't a need to add garbage to the 25/40-man roster. Minor league deals are never a bad thing but if he's going to go after a reliever for a spot on the roster, especially if it's to replace relievers that are going to be moved, they better be better than replacement or trash.
  9. My apologies if it's been posted already or elsewhere but it's per Rotoworld via ESPNNewYork.com: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/5630/greg-burke The obvious question is WHY? They have a fair number of relievers even if a trade is made. If they do flip a few of them why would they think about replacing them with someone like him? I can see if it's a minor league deal, which wouldn't be a bad idea, but not a major league deal.
  10. Hell, I'd be pissed too if I had that season and they still took Ricky "I can't hit the broad side of a barn" Romero over me. From what I hear, he's just a competitive young man and more or less means that he's upset about not getting a call but will come into ST next year and try to blow them away and force their hand.
  11. So, does this team set a record for TJS? That's 4 in two years.
  12. "- When Riccardi was GM, AA pushed hard for Glaus/Rolen trade. Looked bad early on as Glaus had good first year, Rolen was banged up. Following year it turned around. Year Rolen was banged up led to Bautista trade." So, is he saying, despite being in a "win now" mode, and earlier this year when he said he kind of "had to make" the Dickey trade to go for it, the trades made might not look good now but give them time? Kind of self defeating isn't it? And oh that trade lead to having yet another injured player, so we had to make a trade for depth, and a few years after Bautista became what he is now? Doesn't that also kind of say wait a season or two or three and if someone gets hurt, we'll have to make another trade and hope we get something decent after more time? I could just be reading too far into it after this season went to hell in a hand basket so early on.
  13. Rotoworld stated they were looking for a back up IF and/or LH hitter. Boni would fit that at least to some extent. They'd probably be more interested in DeRosa than Boni since he's horrible this year but he's young and they might want to gamble. Might be able to make something happen but waivers might complicate it a bit.
  14. Morrow to the 60-Day DL.
  15. It seems like his agent is saying with such a poor market this winter and a poor showing by JJ that it might be in his best interest to take an QO and return to get his numbers back up and go next year for a bigger deal. If he's offered it'll cost the signing team a pick so they might not bite unless he's Cy Young from now until the end of the season and even then losing a first rounder will scare off many teams with how he's played this year. It's not a bad move on both parties. If JJ accepts a QO it'll be around what he made this year (anywhere from what he made to about $15 M). It's a bargain price if he can put up the dominate numbers he can and if he sucks out loud it's not the worst waste of money. If he pitches a lot better next year he can cash in whether it be in Toronto or another team. It might be the best offer he'll get unless a team gets desperate but with compensation attached and his lackluster performance this year it's unlikely he'll get anything better.
  16. If I were running the team, I'd let Santos 30 day rehab window go as long as I could before making a move. I'd try to move Oliver ASAP. Since he's going to retire at the end of the year (more than likely) I'd take anything someone was willing to offer even if it was just cash. It would open both a 25 and 40-man roster spot but since this is AA it's probably going to be what was said above where Perez is exposed, Davis is DFA or some other strange move that really doesn't need to be made yet allowing one of the wasted roster spot holders to stay.
  17. I guess we'll see at the end of the year how things hold.
  18. My apologies if it's been posted before but I was checking out stats and this one kind of hit me. According to ESPN, Dickey's home away stats are like night and day: ERA W L SV SVO GP GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG 3.58 4 5 0 0 10 10 1 65.1 58 28 26 6 24 40 .240 Away 5.83 4 5 0 0 10 10 0 63.1 62 44 41 14 23 52 .251 Home Too bad someone wouldn't offer to take him off our hands. I'm probably missing something here since there has to be more going on than just this breakdown of how he can be pretty decent away but horrible home.
  19. Good point. If there isn't a threat to send them down, or bench them, nothing will happen. When the analysts call them out on it, they get to cry back and don't get a punishment at all. So, nothing will change. Think a championship team would allow players to under preform, make the same mistakes and keep them on the roster all year without making a point?
  20. Please don't hit into a triple play! Full count, come on Lind!
  21. You'd love to have your own place but at the same time, their facilities are a lot better than what we have now so go for it. If they share a place it might be cheaper as well. Anything that will help the club from Day 1 I'd support.
  22. The starting pitching fell apart this year but we'll win next year? Is he hinting that the Jays #1 priority is bringing in an Ace or two and getting some depth? Maybe signing someone via free agency?
  23. If they gave McGowan all this time they should give it to him. Hopefully his disaster was due to his injury and not him falling apart. If I remember correctly he passed the initial tests when he left the game early and they were surprised he tore his UCL and needed TJS. Might explain his struggles if he was injured and not really feeling it. Either way I hope he gets the time he needs and can come up and do something. He can't be worse. Maybe the pressure will be off now where he's not expected to go a full year and might help.
  24. Per the Jays official site. Fills the spot on the 40-man roster freed up by Wang being DFA. Hopefully he'll be able to bounce back and become at least a decent starter in the bigs. He's still only 25.
