  1. The increased TV ratings are way more important to Rogers than the RC attendance. 1.44M for a Tuesday Jays game against Oakland, that's insane!
  2. The Jays are well past being a novelty. They just need to win to get the fans back. There is an entire generation of fans from the '90s and this is their opportunity to build on that.
  3. + they've more than doubled the average TV ratings since acquiring Tulo
  4. hah, ya it kind of was but I really can't see it. They have a weak farm after the deals they've made and have some big FA's over the next couple seasons. For their fans I hope they can resign some of their key guys but small-market teams like KC tend to let them walk or trade them before they hit FA.
  5. Ya, they're looking great for 2015. Should be fine for 2016 as well. 2017 and beyond I don't see them in the playoffs without big additions.
  6. Or the pieces to add a cheap young starter if one were to become available. The only real option is free agency and it's going to take big $.
  7. The Royals are in trouble long term, they went out and added Cueto bc they know their window is closing.
  8. Good teams take risks, if you want to win 85 games stay pat and add some mid-rotation guys. If you want to compete you're going to need more than Dickey and Stro
  9. Lot's of people disagreed with me, how many did I call negative? 3.7 WAR is very reasonable but it's really about what Price will provide in the next two seasons. If the Jays get to the WS in the next 3 years they'll make tehir $200M back regardless of Price's future performance. There's an opportunity cost to not going for it this offseason.
  10. that"s pure snark!!! And every post was negative.
  11. You started the "debate" with "nope". It was never going to be a debate after that. Your mind was made up going in to it and you've had a negative attitude in all of your responses. You give out snark and negativity and you get it back. That's life.
  12. There's a HUGE difference. I make moronic comments every day, I'm not a moron (depending who you ask). It's not an attack on you as a person. And let's be honest here, you don't try to have civilized debates you pick comments to argue and try to make sure your voice is the loudest in the room.
  13. That's exactly how I feel. Consider that the Price deal doesn't work out and I think we are all still happy they went for it. If they don't do anything how many fans are going to stick around? They wont be drawing +1M viewers a night (like they have been since Tulo) without making a splash in FA.
  14. They traded premium assets for Reyes on a 7yr deal and Tulo on a 10yr deal. At some point you'd hope they just sign their own big $ FA's instead of trading for other orgs guys a year or two int o their deals.
  15. I said your point was moronic, I never called you a moron. And you really shouldn't complains bout the quality of other people's posts. Most of your posts are under 5 words. Get off your high-horse and check your attitude it's terrible.
  16. If all the big money deals across the league fail then the whole league is going to fail and at that point it really doesn't matter if Price works out or not. Just another reason to make a splash this Winter; get it while the going is good. If the league economics take a turn for the worse hopefully you've added a pennant to the rafters and again it wont matter what they're paying Price.
  17. I just don't view it as a big deal. With the new TV deal I think player salaries are about to skyrocket. I also don't feel that big money deals are as big of an albatross as they used to be. They get moved all the time now.
  18. There's no sense arguing with him. He;'s convinced pitcher's arms fall off the second they hit 30.
  19. They'd need to raise payroll ~$10M, if they do make the playoffs I don't see why payroll wouldn't go up by at least that much.
  20. I was disappointed but they needed to be smarter about saving payroll space, it had nothing to do with any one contract. Same thing goes with resigning Price -- as long as they are smart about how they spend the rest of their payroll they'll be fine.
  21. Hutch and Stroman are still under contract, Dickey's option will get picked up but that leaves 2 spots to fill. They'll turn to FA for at least one of those spots and likely will move Edwin to fill the other. Hutch + Stro + Dickey will be ~$17.5M if they flipped Edwin for a decent young, cheap starter (or just roll with one of Osuna/Sanchez) and paid Price $30M it'd be less than $50M for a pretty good starting rotation. That's not bad at all and definitely workable with a ~$140M payroll.
  22. Of course but that doesn't mean they shouldn't resign Price.
  23. Again why look at this in a bubble. If the Jays win a WS with Price (or whatever ace you want) leading the rotation he'll have made $200M for Rogers in one season. You are significantly undervaluing wins for upper echelon teams. Win 90 is worth far more than $10M to the Jays.
  24. They already fudge the numbers to make it appear the Jays lose money. They've been publicly traded for as long as they have owned the Jays. Overall the Jays make them money. I guess we'll wait and see. This is an argument to sign someone now. Top flight pitchers are only going to get more expensive and the Jays have a very narrow window even with a pitcher of Price's calibre. Of course but that doesn't mean that he isn't the perfect fit for the Jays. This offense needs pitching behind it beyond this season. It doesn't have to be Price but they need a #1 pitcher. So why not him? He's already here, he's a lefty (which tend to age better) and he likes the city.
