  1. So, I assume everyone is still on the side of the owners here, right?
  2. That's all well and good, but the Jays will have to find a home stadium first...
  3. Fair point, I was basing my statement on the fact that with the shortened season, he'd probably be "called up" to start it (the other option would be the Taxi squad, but I'm not sure that's the route to go with Pearson). But yeah, he might still maintain prospect status if the season is short enough...
  4. Pearson has, for all intents and purposes, graduated to the MLB, so calling Martin our #1 prospect isn't QUITE as crazy as it seems...
  5. I like Martin as a CF for this team as it stands...
  6. There's our saved money for Martin. Good stuff.
  7. Another weird looking pick from the Orioles... Their dart board appears to be getting one hell of a workout...
  8. MLB.com has him at #75 on their list, not that that means anything necessarily... Edit: And it really depends on how much they think they'll need to save for Martin, if they think he'll sign for close to 5th pick money, then they don't need to fudge too much, if they think he's going to want a couple extra million, then they need to be more creative.
  9. I could get behind that, he's got a really pretty swing from the video I've seen. Sounds like a reach at 42, but maybe we save a bit of cash there to use towards Martin.
  10. "The owners get paid because they take all of the risks..." Also, "knowing full well that something like this could come to pass." is not the same as "knowing full well something like this would happen."
  11. Yes. They get free stadiums, stupid tax breaks across the boards, ridiculous revenue baked into the system. Hell if they don't make enough money, they get revenue sharing. They have no actual risks OTHER than the unexpected.
  12. Russ Adams could play shortstop though... I'm also not a fan of Gonzalez at 5.
  13. Hey, if they don't want to lose money, that's fine they didn't get to be parasites by honouring their agreements. But to claim "we deserve money because we take all the risk" and then as soon as something bad happens start crying poor? Nah, f*** that. This *IS* the risk they were supposed to be taking, and they've now shown that the whole narrative is ******** (which was obvious from the get-go, but y'know...)
  14. The owners take all the risks, that's what they and their enablers keep telling us, right? One of the risks is that you might have to pay players their contracted salaries even if you aren't making the revenue that you expect. f*** the owners, and f*** their ********.
  15. Veen's helium seems a bit artificial to me, and if he's on the board I'd prefer Hancock. I mean, I wouldn't hate Veen as a pick, but it's suspicious that he started to rise so much after all games had stopped and there's only video of his being pushed out all over the place...
  16. The only defence ever put forward of the owners is "they're the ones that take all the risk if something goes badly!" now something is going badly and they're trying to absolve themselves of that risk. Seriously, *IF* baseball resumes, even without fans, there will be players who get Covid-19. WILL, not might. If I was a player, particularly one who already had millions in the bank, I'd be telling teams "thanks, but no thanks, I'll wait 'til next year."
  17. That was the exact record that sprang to mind (and the co-record of 8 RsBI in an inning). That would be virtually impossible to break.
  18. Bichette was a second rounder... Also, I hate that it's only going to be 5 rounds. Stings even more when we have the 5th pick per round...
  19. The fans would migrate to the new league, and the owners of the existing league would have to fold their teams. (This makes the assumption that the myriad legal hurdles are cleared, and that they get close to 100% buy in from the players, neither of which are likely, but the whole scenario is unlikely...)
  20. I mean, what's he going to do? Hold out in the hopes that he's drafted higher than 5th overall? Gotta imagine that's not the sort of thing that happens often...
  21. I mean, he's absolutely correct that Covid will not be gone in 6 months. It's a ludicrous pipe dream to expect that it will be. There's a chance there might be a vaccine available in a year or so, until then, we're dealing with this s*** one way or the other.
  22. We should trade Nate Pearson for that guy ASAP. Maybe throw in Jansen to sweeten the pot...
  23. I would be very okay with Garrett Mitchell, he's got his risks, but it wouldn't be outlandish for him to actually be the best player from this draft.
