Oh man... what a pylon. That weak-ass swat as the defender is driving past him is his specialty. I loled at 6:47 and 7:02. Runs right past his man.
  2. I'm not sure why people are inferring from this that Pompey will be up with the club in September. You don't typically add people to your 40 man just for a September callup and the Jays in particular have not been at all aggressive with September callups since Travis Snider in 2008.
  3. It is that crazy to think they just might? That's a hell of an expense that they took on out of the blue.
  4. Which means that other profitable divisions will essentially be financing hockey.
  5. Yeah well I did really enjoy this particular piece and it's the first time, I've really seen his qualities on display instead of his flaws so it gives me a more balanced perspective. If he were still writing for S.S. Mariner or whatever his original blog was, it would be easier to forgive sloppy back of the napkin math but he really should have someone review that stuff for him at Fangraphs. An argument could be made that the Fangraphs editor should be someone who has some statistical background and not just someone who can write. So maybe the real issue is that he's a bit miscast as something more than just a contributor.
  6. "I think Nox is of the opinion that he tries to insert himself in conversations with the types who post on Tango's blog, but that isn't really the nature of his contributions." That's part of it but there's also the part where he gets concepts flat out wrong in his own writing. Down is up, up is down, kind of stuff.
  7. Yeah but thank kind of misses the point. People like Nox can tell you exactly when and how he's full of s***.
  8. Will hockey even be profitable for Rogers or was the cost so high that it's basically a loss leader? I don't have the number but that's where I'm going with my speculation.
  9. I don't read him or Fangraphs regularly. Whenever his stuff is brought to my attention it's usually because he wrote something really stupid. Nox has brought up examples in the past and seems to really dislike him generally.
  10. Wow! That's a really well written post. Half-way through I assumed it was written by someone other than Cameron and then I doubled back and to my surprise saw his name.
  11. John MacDonald career wOBA: .263 Ryan Goins career wOBA: .242
  12. There are a seperate brand sure but the money they make may have already been spent elsewhere is my point. I mean I don't know that more than anybody else does but I don't think the assurances that have been given are enough to discount the possibility.
  13. I'm the same way and it's even worse with the NFL. In fact I'm not even going to bother turning the football games on this year because I never pay attention anyways.
  14. There's the hockey thing though... We've been told it won't impact the Jays but that message sure would have been better delivered with a pre-season or deadline investment.
  15. As established eariler in the thread, defensive indifference gets scored as a fielder's choice so it's a moot point (also a Moogy point but that's besides the point).
  16. I really don't see McGowan returning anything on a 4 million investment. I think it's pretty obvious at this point that McGowan will not come back and haunt this team the way Chris Carpenter did. It's quite safe to pull the plug.
  17. Worked wonders for Neil Wagner.
  18. It's not specifically addressed in the rules. It would be theoretically possible to make that judgement call even if it seems highly unlikely. The official scorer shall not score a stolen base when a runner advances solely because of the defensive team's indifference to the runner’s advance. The official scorer shall score such a play as a fielder's choice. Rule 10.07(g) Comment: The scorer shall consider, in judging whether the defensive team has been indifferent to a runner’s advance, the totality of the circumstances, including the inning and score of the game, whether the defensive team had held the runner on base, whether the pitcher had made any pickoff attempts on that runner before the runner’s advance, whether the fielder ordinarily expected to cover the base to which the runner advanced made a move to cover such base, whether the defensive team had a legitimate strategic motive to not contest the runner’s advance or whether the defensive team might be trying impermissibly to deny the runner credit for a stolen base. For example, with runners on first and third bases, the official scorer should ordinarily credit a stolen base when the runner on first advances to second, if, in the scorer’s judgment, the defensive team had a legitimate strategic motive—namely, preventing the runner on third base from scoring on the throw to second base—not to contest the runner’s advance to second base. The official scorer may conclude that the defensive team is impermissibly trying to deny a runner credit for a stolen base if, for example, the defensive team fails to defend the advance of a runner approaching a league or career record or a league statistical title.
  19. Stolen base.
  20. That Wallace/Hague platoon is going to really tear up AAA over the next couple of weeks.
  21. Dropped Taylor for Robbie Grossman. Just burning all my weekly moves. No big deal.
  22. FFS. Could you double check the sheet? I can't acces it at work.
  23. O.K. I dropped him before anything counted. Grabbed Michael Taylor instead.
