  1. Well Varsho seems alright lol. And a jack from Valddy, too. Boom boom guys
  2. I think the uncharitable take is this board gives him imposter syndrome. He's a "real" baseball writer/thinker and so he's supposed to be more knowledgeable than most. But would he even be a top 10 baseball intellect on this board? Probably not. Can't imagine he likes that, and it's probably easier for him to just pretend to be above it.
  3. Now that we can be fairly certain Vladdy is going to free agency, I'll make 2 predictions. First, with many teams bidding on him it makes it more likely that some team gets way out over their skis and gives him a preposterous, massive, overpay of a contract. Still, I believe he will inevitably receive less total dollars than the Jays offered this time. Second, despite his age, I believe he will receive less total dollars than Tucker gets. Assuming Tucker also goes to free agency.
  4. I agree with lot of that. But also being from a rich family doesn't make these guys want the money any less. If anything they want the big numbers more. It's often about ego and precedent. And yeah, he can always just come back and sign at 27/28, but it makes it a bit less likely he gets the quadrillion dollars he's looking for. Or he "settles" for a big number, one year prove it deal and possibly blows it again.
  5. The pressure is that he under performs or gets hurt. If the Jay are offering him $450mil he should probably just take it. It's not a given he'll get $500mil in free agency. What if he puts up a 2 WAR season or gets hurt and plays like 50 games? You think he's even getting $400mil from some team? Maybe, probably not.
  6. So for the Jays to make the playoffs and do some damage when they get there, a lot of things need to go right, or at least not go horribly wrong. Vladdy keeps it up, Bo bounces back, Rotation health, big step up from the pen, possible surprise season from someone, etc. Question - Other than Vlad or Bo, who do you think is the most likely candidate to put up a 5+ win season and what would it look like? Varsho or Gimenez? Defense as usual and they hit better than expected. Kirk? Maintains defense with a big offensive season. Springer? Huge bounce back despite the batspeed. Someone else, one of the kids maybe? I feel like last season is probably Santander's ceiling, maybe Orelvis comes up and just mashes like crazy? Whatchu got, people?
  7. I think we're looking at $450mil over 12 years
  8. If the whole "Jays as leverage" narrative is as true as people believe, you have to wonder if it would even work anymore. Boras - Guys, you better up your offer because we got a better one from Toronto. Every GM - We all know nobody's going to Toronto, Scott. Shut up
  9. Mmm yeah kinda. It feels like it was Mets or bust for him. I think we probably did offer more years or dollars, or both
  10. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe we're always just being used for leverage. Sometimes we are, and sometimes we just legitimately finish second for a player.
  11. I don't think we were ever even his fallback option. We were always just leverage and he would have gone back to the Mets for pennies.
  12. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/bregging-the-question/ Pretty neat. Does this affect anyone's opinion about whether we should be balls deep on acquiring Bregman? How do y'all feel about their assessment of our playoff odds?
  13. What say you guys on a trade for Tatis Jr? Evidently, noted baseball genius, Harold Reynolds thinks the Pads should trade him to save some money. I can't see it. But if we can't pull in Alonso or Bregman, and they would be willing to trade him, would you do it? What would you be willing to give up?
  14. I hear you, it would be weird to see him in another uniform. But it's probably just too much ponying for my liking. The hope for an extension, as opposed to a free agent contract, is some amount of "home town discount" or "shared risk" or whatever euphemism you prefer. But it seems he's giving the Jays no quarter. If he's not getting traded, at this point, they might as well play it out, let him walk, back up the truck for Tucker and possibly circle back to give Vladdy a quadrillion dollars after finishing second for Tucker. Or just don't and let some other team sign his disaster contract.
  15. Idk, I kinda just don't want Vladdy extended. He's a good player, sure. But just doesn't seem like a mega contract guy. If he were doing his thing from shortstop or centerfield, then by all means, back up the truck. We know this organization is willing to give out some crazy deals, they've certainly tried. Yet they haven't done it with Vladdy and it's telling. Fun fact - every team to ever win a world series has done it without Vladdy. We don't NEED him. Would it be nice to have a guy like him locked up? Sure, but not for what he's gonna get.
  16. Not sure how close Springer ever was with Bregman but I kinda hope he's recruiting the s*** out if him. Wishful thinking, I'm sure, but you never know what might work for someone.
  17. I like the way you're thinking here. Fingers crossed this makes a difference like that!
  18. Wow awesome. This has turned into a pretty good off-season. If they can pull in one of the big bats I'd say it's been a great one
  19. Would you guys prefer Alonso 3 for $90mil or Bregman 6 for $180mil?
  20. Yeah I hope they do trade for Mountcastle, or whoever really. It feels like Alonso isn't coming here until the Mets slam the door in his face
  21. https://jaysjournal.com/the-one-big-splash-the-toronto-blue-jays-should-be-all-in-on-dodgers-gm?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=topic%2Ftorontobluejays Thoughts?
  22. Merry everything everyone! Wishing you all a safe, awesome holiday season. And an even more awesome, upcoming beisbol season for the Jays.
  23. What do you guys think is the best case scenario for Votto on the field? And does anyone think he's likely to out produce Vogelbach?
  24. I'll say 86 wins. I could see as many as 90 or as few as 83.
