  1. A lot of that sounds right to me but why would Bo even consider less? Especially given the way the Vladdy "negotiations " went
  2. Not sure Tucker would come here but would you rather give Bo 300mil or give Tucker 400-450mill? And Nimmala is still a ways away, but does having him in the system make you less willing to give Bo a really long term deal? The range of outcomes for Nimmala seems quite large.
  3. Gahd damn it. Don't like this at all. He will be the most hated player on the team for a long time if he isn't an absolute stud every year. I hope I'm exaggerating but this feels like potentially the worst baseball contract ever
  4. Ah I see you've played Knifey-Spoony before
  5. Also Kirk, 26 years old, projects for 4 WAR, gets $58mil. Vladdy, 26 years old, projects for 4.8 WAR, apparently deserves $500mil. Hm... I don't think Kirky is likely to put up any 6 WAR seasons, but still cmon...
  6. Yeah George Bell, I reckon
  7. https://www.mlb.com/news/seiya-suzuki-slices-baseballs-with-a-samurai-sword?partnerID=mlbapp-android_article-share Batting practice with a sword. Looks fun :)
  8. Yeah I could see that. And if Straw makes the team hopefully he pulls a Sogard :)
  9. Hopefully way more than cromulent. Ideally he puts up a monster season, propels the Jays to the playoffs and they win at least a couple games. Or he puts up a monster season, the Jays suck otherwise and he gets traded at the deadline for the best prospect/ prospects they can get. I don't want him back for any contract he's likely to get. It's not like a mediocre season is going to bring his price down to something palatable. I don't think he's worth the $340mil they already offered him let alone $400mil or more. I think he's probably the next Ryan Howard, Fielder, Miggy, Pujols, etc. Let someone else pay for that
  10. The Roden and Barger ones yeah. So good :)
  11. Lol holy s*** that is satisfying. Can't stop watching...
  12. Yes probably. But seeing as Varsho should be back soon, I'd like to see Springer in center and Roden in left.
  13. https://www.si.com/mlb/yankees/news/new-york-yankees-ace-gerrit-cole-to-undergo-concerning-tests-elbow Oh my...
  14. Varsho at it again! Boom boom guys
  15. Man, am I old? I'm usually pro fun, bat flips, fist pumps, or whatever. But something about this has me rooting for him to blow out both hamstrings doing that...
  16. Well Varsho seems alright lol. And a jack from Valddy, too. Boom boom guys
  17. I think the uncharitable take is this board gives him imposter syndrome. He's a "real" baseball writer/thinker and so he's supposed to be more knowledgeable than most. But would he even be a top 10 baseball intellect on this board? Probably not. Can't imagine he likes that, and it's probably easier for him to just pretend to be above it.
  18. Now that we can be fairly certain Vladdy is going to free agency, I'll make 2 predictions. First, with many teams bidding on him it makes it more likely that some team gets way out over their skis and gives him a preposterous, massive, overpay of a contract. Still, I believe he will inevitably receive less total dollars than the Jays offered this time. Second, despite his age, I believe he will receive less total dollars than Tucker gets. Assuming Tucker also goes to free agency.
  19. I agree with lot of that. But also being from a rich family doesn't make these guys want the money any less. If anything they want the big numbers more. It's often about ego and precedent. And yeah, he can always just come back and sign at 27/28, but it makes it a bit less likely he gets the quadrillion dollars he's looking for. Or he "settles" for a big number, one year prove it deal and possibly blows it again.
  20. The pressure is that he under performs or gets hurt. If the Jay are offering him $450mil he should probably just take it. It's not a given he'll get $500mil in free agency. What if he puts up a 2 WAR season or gets hurt and plays like 50 games? You think he's even getting $400mil from some team? Maybe, probably not.
  21. So for the Jays to make the playoffs and do some damage when they get there, a lot of things need to go right, or at least not go horribly wrong. Vladdy keeps it up, Bo bounces back, Rotation health, big step up from the pen, possible surprise season from someone, etc. Question - Other than Vlad or Bo, who do you think is the most likely candidate to put up a 5+ win season and what would it look like? Varsho or Gimenez? Defense as usual and they hit better than expected. Kirk? Maintains defense with a big offensive season. Springer? Huge bounce back despite the batspeed. Someone else, one of the kids maybe? I feel like last season is probably Santander's ceiling, maybe Orelvis comes up and just mashes like crazy? Whatchu got, people?
  22. I think we're looking at $450mil over 12 years
