  1. I really liked the Martinez/Hiraldo debate. You guys obviously put a lot of time into thinking about that. But we actually have some pro ball data for Hiraldo and he did pretty well in Rookie ball last year as a 17 year old. We don't have any data for Martinez yet. How much credit should Hidalgo get for putting up a solid year like that? Seems like you didn't give him much since he's ranked so much lower than Martinez.
  2. This is really really good. The percentiles are good but I love the write ups too. This article is something worthy to be published on Fangraphs or ESPN or something.
  3. Diaz is barely acceptable at SS but he can hit so overall hes okay. Galvis is pretty good defensively which allows him to be useful because his bat kinda sux.
  4. Exactly. I was tooting this guy's horn more than anyone but he was supposed to be a good RF who could play some CF too. Instead he's a piss poor LF. What the hell happened there? Really tanked his value.
  5. Same here I love those late West Coast games.
  6. Marwin would be awesome. He plays a lot of the positions where we have question marks including LF. He also helps out a lot in case of injury. So many scenarios where he could be useful. On scenario is start him at 2B and then late in the game move him to LF (where he's really good) to replace the crap defense of Hernandez/McKinney and put Galvis in.
  7. Yeah they did it with Tulo so why not with Morales? I'd try and grab Moose on a longer deal, something like 3 for 24 mil deal or something and then punt Morales would be awesome. Trading Smoak and keeping Morales would be another option.
  8. If Morales wasn't on the team Moose would make a ton of sense. Could play 3B, 1B and DH. Even with Morales on the team you could make it work but someone's ABs would be getting pinched. Smoak and Morales are both gone after this year though so Moose still wouldn't be a bad signing if it was a 2 or 3 year deal.
  9. ESPN sucks but I don't know that I totally blame them. Baseball is a weird sport to cover right now. It's really geographical in that fans care mostly about their own teams and that's it. Most NBA fans will tune in to a big Lebron game but I don't know that MLB fans care to tune into an Angels game just to watch Mike Trout unless he's playing their favorite team. Then you have a huge split in the fanbase where statheads find it painful to watch dinosaurs talk about BA on a nightly basis and vice versa. It's hard to make a show the caters to all the fans right now. Maybe they should split the show in two and do half the show for casual fans and the other half for sabremetric favvy fans?
  10. Was thinking about this a little bit more and while the Drury trade looks worse in light of the FA market, the Diaz trade looks a lot better. Diaz's replacement is Galvis and I don't think Galvis is much worse, he's simply just a glove first player. Galvis probably even compliments the team better anyway because he provides a different set of skills than what Gurriel provides. Gurriel and Diaz are pretty similar players. So we traded 4 years of Diaz for 6 years of an interesting big league ready pitcher. And we replaced Diaz for cheap with an equally talented guy who is a better fit. I hated it at the time but it was actually a nice trade!
  11. ESPN has canceled Baseball Tonight.
  12. I tried posting the archive earlier but I couldn't access it. I'll try and get Law's Top 100 up tonight or tomorrow.
  13. Lmao I knew something like this was coming
  14. I've been before lol. Not a gay bar. It's a s***** and trendy bro bar in the frat boy part of Houston.
  15. Gurriel obviously has red flags but I was encouraged by his year and career trajectory. Age 21 he mashed in Cuba. Age 22 he didn't play as he defected. Age 23 he was horrible in High A and AA, seemingly he was getting back into the swing of things. That's two years where he didn't play or looked like s*** because of the time off. Age 24 he turned it all around by hitting in AA, AAA and then the majors. Defense and plate discipline are definitely concerns entering his age 25 season but if he shows improvement again he's a position-flexible 2 WAR player. Steamer has him pegged for 1.6 in 403 ABs. I'm probably higher on him than most on this board.
  16. KL lists him 107, BP lists him 89, and MLB 65. To their credit, BA has him 42 and PL has him 26. Who is PL again though?
  17. Well Law had him ranked like #107 or something which spurred on the conversation to begin with. Most lists include him from what I've seen.
  18. Vlad Jr. is the better prospect. I see Law's arguments but Tatis Jr's bat and defense have some small question marks. He strikes out a lot and he's probably moving to 3B. Yeah, Vlad's defense is crap but there are 0 questions about his bat. He walked more than he k'd in AAA as a 19 year old. Tatis Jr. struck out 28% of the time in AA. I get that I'm being pretty nitpicky but when deciding which Lambo is best you have to. Eloy can handle a corner OF spot but I doubt he's great there due to his slow speed. He also doesn't really walk and he's 2 years older.
  19. Exactly! Steamer has him playing 100 games next year and still projects him for the 7th most WAR among 2019 Catchers. He's a stud. Seems like everyone tracked his meteoric rise which started in 2017 but just kind of quit moving him up the list for some reason.
  20. I don't know how Jansen is ranked outside the top 100, especially compared to 19 year old pitching prospects and crap like that. He's hit the s*** out of the ball the past two seasons and in 100 big league ABs he looked very good. From all the pitch framing metrics I've seen he appears to be league average. Defensive reports aren't glowing but he appears to be acceptable back there. Steamer has him pegged for 2.6 WAR in 100 games next year. To me he has a high floor and ceiling. How do you rank a guy like that outside of the Top 30 or so? Criminally underrated.
  21. After looking at his profile for a bit I think everyone is being too harsh on Axford. He isn't that bad. He got hosed with his ERA last year because of a crap LOB%. Decent strikeout guy, good GB%, velocity is holding up- main problem is he walks too many guys. I'd definitely sign him to a minor league deal though.
  22. Here's a nice write up on the signing. It's more about Gurriel since Galvis is a known commodity. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/freddy-galvis-gives-the-blue-jays-options/
  23. Quick thought- The FA market the past couple of years has made the Happ for Drury trade even worse IMO. Guys like Drury are signing for peanuts. Asdrubal Cabrera signed for almost nothing and theres a very strong chance he out WARs him by a lot next year. Should probably aim for high risk high reward prospects next time, knowing that low floor types can be had for cheap via FA.
  24. I'm glad they made the signing. It was nifty and gives us an INF option. But Galvis kind of sucks. He just doesn't suck as hard as Urena is all.
  25. Yep. Pretty good chance of that happening.
